Going somewhere Paul? Pogba posts cryptic social media message ahead of sealing move to Champions League club after 18-month doping ban

Paul Pogba has shared a cryptic post on social media as he looks set to return to the beautiful game for the first time after an 18-month doping ban from the sport. The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder was handed a four-year doping ban after returning an adverse drug test. However, that suspension was later slashed to just 18 months. Now, the ban has been served and Pogba is free to play the game once again with many European clubs eager to bring him on board. One of those clubs is set to do just that, with the midfielder now reportedly on the verge of a move to Ligue 1 side Monaco. A medical is believed to be pencilled in at the Champions League side after they reached an agreement on a two-year contract with Pogba earlier this week. Ahead of the move, it appears that the World Cup winner is set to jet off somewhere as he posted a selfie from within an airport departure lounge, accompanied by a four-emoji-long message. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Paul Labile Pogba (@paulpogba) The post on Instagram first shows Pogba travelling somewhere with a seatbelt on, while the picture that follows looks to show him smiling in a lounge. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Pogba was set to fly into the principality of Monaco to undergo a medical, before putting pen to paper on a contract, which has led to speculation that Pogba's post is in regards to that. French newspaper Le Parisien reported on Tuesday that Pogba had made 'significant financial sacrifices' to agree terms with the Ligue 1 side, with an agreement having been reached on Sunday. Though he has not actually played a game since September 2023, he has at least been sharing the progress of his training regime on social media in order to reignite his football career. Joining Monaco would see Pogba return to the Champions League after the Ligue 1 side finished third in the league behind Marseille and champions PSG. Despite representing France 91 times and winning the World Cup with Les Bleus in 2018, he has never actually played in the country's top-flight. Having come through the ranks at Manchester United, he joined Juventus before a then-record return to Old Trafford in 2016. From United, he once again joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2022, before his life came crumbling down in his second season back at the Old Lady when he learned of his suspension. The 30-year-old tested positive for testosterone after Juventus's first game of the 2023-24 season against Udinese, and was given a hefty four-yeard punishment by an anti-doping prosecutor's office in Italy. However, in October 2024 Mail Sport exclusively revealed that the former France international's original suspension had been slashed to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. In CAS' final judgement, it was confirmed that Pogba did inadvertently take DHEA, a substance that boosts testosterone that is on WADA's banned list. Crucially, however, the ruling states that DHEA only affects females. In an exclusive interview with Mail Sport last year, Pogba revealed the story of how he found out the news that he would be able to play football again in 2025. 'Here's a funny story: I was trying on a new suit for a film premiere but I didn't have my phone,' Pogba told Mail Sport. 'My wife (Zulay) comes rushing upstairs with my phone screaming, 'It's the lawyer'. I said I would call him back but she said I had to take the call. 'So I went downstairs to speak to him with the suit on! He told me the news and I was silent. Everyone was jumping, so happy but I was in shock. Quickly that happiness turned into a determination. We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it. I was pumped.'

Valencia star has ‘given the green light' to Arsenal move

Valencia star Crishtian Mosquera is keen on the prospect of a move to England, with Mikel Arteta's Arsenal. That's according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has provided an insight into the youngster's desires at present. Advertisement The name of defender Mosquera has of course proven an altogether prominent one in the headlines across Spain over the last 24 hours. This comes after word was forthcoming that the brass at the aforementioned Arsenal had opened talks with both the stopper's entourage and Valencia, over the terms of a summer transfer. And as alluded to above, Mosquera, for his part, appears to be more than keen on a potential Emirates switch. As revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, also responsible for breaking the news regarding Arsenal's swoop for the 20-year-old: 'More on Christian Mosquera and Arsenal story. Man United now on brink of sealing £32m deal after Fabrizio Romano issues Wednesday morning ‘here we go'

Manchester United could well be in luck if one transfer is finalised in the coming hours. This morning, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed — via his usual 'here we go' statement — that Real Betis have agreed the terms of Johnny Cardoso's move to Atletico Madrid in a deal worth upwards of £25.5 million. When the switch gets over the line, it'll directly pave the way for Betis to ignite their pursuit of Antony, who has his sights set on a return to the La Liga outfit following his half-season loan spell. Antony was a mainstay under Manuel Pellegrini from the minute he joined. (Photo by) The winger is so adamant about repaying Betis' faith in him with a more long-term deal that he has already rebuffed interest from a handful of unnamed teams and Como, making it clear his heart is set on extending his stay at the Villamarin Stadium. Additionally, he is willing to take a 30 per cent pay cut to ensure the club can register him this summer. United have opened the door to Antony's departure, having conceded the player is simply not cut out for the Premier League after a lacklustre two-and-a-half seasons. The Reds would need to recoup around £32.58m from his sale to avoid a PSR hit. After swapping Manchester for Seville in January, Antony enjoyed a new lease of life with Los Verdiblancos. He made 26 appearances in total across all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting a further five, whilst also playing an integral role in Betis reaching the UEFA Conference League final and securing a spot in the Europa League via a sixth-placed finish. Liverpool not accepting ‘normal offers' for Barcelona attacking target

Barcelona's pursuit of Nico Williams has been well documented, with the club now even involved in an all-out war with Athletic Club. The Basque club have no desire to offload Nico and have asked La Liga to block the transfer owing to Barcelona's economic condition. Advertisement Despite the intense focus on Nico, though, it was reported earlier that Diaz is still harbouring the dream of joining Barcelona. Liverpool not accepting normal offers for Luis Diaz Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Luis Diaz's transfer saga. The Italian journalists suggest that Liverpool may only consider the Colombian international's transfer if they receive a 'very huge' bid. The Premier League giants are not accepting normal offers for the attacker, knowing he is a vital cog in Arne Slot's attacking setup. Luis Diaz may end up staying at Liverpool this summer. (Photo by) Advertisement As of now, nothing has been decided as far as Diaz's future is concerned, which suggests the status quo. Romano adds that Barcelona did try to get hold of Diaz about a month ago, but were vehemently rebuffed by Liverpool. That was when the Catalans started to shift their attention towards Nico Williams, making the Spanish international their top target. This implies there is a good chance that the Colombian international is unlikely to come to Catalonia unless Liverpool greatly reduce their demand for the attacker. Barcelona's immediate focus remains on Nico Williams, who is widely wanted by the Barcelona dressing room owing to his good relationship with some of the team members, including Lamine Yamal. As for Diaz, there is a good chance he may remain at Liverpool next season.

Forest set to miss out on Juventus forward Weah

Juventus winger Timothy Weah has reportedly rejected a move to Nottingham Forest, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old was strongly linked with the Premier League club, with talks having advanced. Several sources claimed the clubs had agreed on the terms of the transfer. Advertisement Forest are looking to strengthen their squad as they prepare to compete in the Europa Conference League next season. However, it appears the deal will not go through. Weah has no interest in joining Forest and is not expected to change his mind. Forest must move on from Weah Weah is currently part of the Juventus squad playing at the Club World Cup. He has helped the Serie A club reach the round of 16. The United States international enjoyed a decent season with Juventus in all competitions, recording six goals and three assists. He is keen to improve on those numbers. The winger is expected to remain at the Allianz Stadium unless another offer is made that suits both the club and player. Advertisement Weah joined Juventus from Lille and has continued to develop. While Forest were hopeful of convincing him, they will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements. The two-time European champions need players who are committed to the cause, and Weah clearly does not fit the bill.
