No income tax notice has been sent to Eknath Shinde's son: Sources

The Income Tax Department has not sent any notice to Eknath Shinde's son Srikanth Shinde, according to sources in the know. Several publications had on Thursday (July 10, 2025) reported that Srikanth Shinde had received an income tax notice. According to the sources, the government recently executed its Computer-Assisted Scrutiny Selection (CASS) for the income tax returns filed for assessment year 2024-25. 'Under the CASS cycle, the cases are selected for scrutiny without any human intervention and on the basis of certain predefined risk parameters,' the source explained. 'Therefore, the notices have been triggered under the CASS cycle on account of the case being covered by applicable risk parameters particularly on exemptions.' As per the process, the replies and further communication will be taken up under the Faceless Assessment Scheme of the Income Tax Department. 'It may also kindly be noted no notice has been issued to Shri. Srikanth Shinde, son of Shri. Eknath Shinde,' the source clarified.

'No tax notice to Srikanth Shinde, scrutiny part of routine process'

Government sources have denied that Srikanth Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has received an income tax notice. The clarification comes amid media reports claiming he had received a tax notice. 'No notice has been issued to Srikanth Shinde, son of Eknath Shinde,' a senior Finance Ministry official said. The official added that recent notices were issued as part of routine selections under the Computer-Assisted Scrutiny Selection (CASS) cycle for the assessment year (AY) 2024-25. 'The CASS cycle (i.e., Computer-Assisted Scrutiny Selection) for the ITRs filed for AY 2024-25 last year was executed recently. Under the CASS cycle, cases are selected for scrutiny without any human intervention and based on certain pre-defined risk parameters,' the official said. 'Therefore, the notices have been triggered under the CASS cycle due to the case being covered by applicable risk parameters, particularly regarding exemptions,' the official added. 'The replies and further process will be taken up under the Faceless Assessment Scheme as per the process,' the official said. The CASS system is a key tool for the Income Tax Department's risk-based compliance strategy, automatically flagging returns for scrutiny based on anomalies or high-risk indicators. For AY 2024-25, exemption-related claims have drawn particular focus, as per sources.

No Income Tax Notices Sent To Eknath Shinde's Son Shrikant: Sources

Last Updated: Government sources clarified that no income tax notice was issued to Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Government sources speaking to CNN-News18 on Thursday clarified that no income tax notice has been issued to Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, following speculation triggered by remarks made by state minister Sanjay Shirsat. The sources explained that the notices issued recently to select individuals, including Shirsat, are part of the Computer-Assisted Scrutiny Selection (CASS) cycle for the assessment year 2024–25. 'Under the CASS cycle, cases are selected for scrutiny without any human intervention and based on pre-defined risk parameters, particularly related to exemptions," one official said. They further noted that the scrutiny process will proceed under the Faceless Assessment Scheme, and reiterated that 'no notice has been issued to Shri Shrikant Shinde." Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Minister for Social Justice Sanjay Shirsat told reporters that he had received a notice from the Income Tax Department seeking an explanation for the increase in his assets between the 2019 and 2024 assembly elections. Shirsat, an MLA from Aurangabad (West) and a member of the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, initially suggested that Shrikant Shinde had also received a notice, but later backtracked, saying he was unaware of such a development. Shirsat said the notice followed a complaint filed with the I-T department and added that he had sought more time to respond. 'I will give a proper response. Nothing wrong has been done," he said. Deputy commissioner, IRS officer sent to custody in CBI faceless assessment scam

A Delhi court on Saturday sent a deputy commissioner of the income tax department and a chartered accountant, who were arrested for allegedly sabotaging the faceless scheme for I-T assessment, to three-day CBI custody. Principal District & Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandana remanded Deputy Commissioner Vijayendra R and DK Agarwal in custody after they were produced before the court by the CBI. The accused were arrested Friday following an FIR of February related to an alleged scam arising out of the Faceless Assessment Scheme of the I-T department. The CBI sought seven-day police remand for the accused, saying they were required to be confronted to unearth the larger conspiracy in the matter. Senior Advocate Pramod Kumar Dubey, appearing for Vijayendra, opposed the CBI plea, claiming the arrest was not necessitated as the accused was never called for investigation by the probe agency. He added that the officer was already suspended since November 2024 and there was no apprehension of destruction or influence over any evidence. Vijayendra, a 2015-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer posted at the department's Jhandewalan office in Delhi, was arrested here, while Agarwal was arrested in Gujarat's Bharuch, the CBI said. The CBI probe in the matter has shown that the duo contacted various assesses of pending high-value I-T assessment cases, promising favourable orders in their cases under scrutiny in return for bribes, the agency said. The finance ministry introduced the faceless scheme to increase transparency, reduce human interface and prevent corruption, it said. The scheme is called "faceless" simply because the assessee will not get to see the face of his or her assessing officer and know who will be conducting the assessments, the CBI said, adding that it will reduce the interface, discretion and corruption.
