Indonesian man drowns while shrimp fishing in Sungai Lengkor, Kuantan
KUANTAN: A 37-year-old Indonesian man drowned while shrimp fishing in Sungai Lengkor, Sri Makmur. The victim, identified as Fahrol, a construction labourer, was found by villagers around 9.10 am, approximately 28 kilometres from where he was last seen. His body has been sent to the Forensic Department of Pekan Hospital for further examination. Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin stated that the incident occurred around 1 am on Sunday when Fahrol and three friends were fishing from a boat. 'The vessel struck a large submerged log near Kampung Sungai Pinang, throwing all four into the river,' he said. While the other three managed to climb back onto the boat and search for Fahrol, he disappeared underwater. A search and rescue operation was launched at 8.30 am, involving 53 personnel from the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force, and local villagers. - Bernama

Labourer's body found 28km downstream after Sungai Pahang prawn netting tragedy

Alagesh PEKAN: The body of an Indonesian labourer who fell overboard while netting for prawns with friends in Sungai Pahang near Sri Makmur yesterday was recovered today, some 28km from the spot where he was last seen. The remains of Fahrol, 37, was found around 9.10am, caught in a piece of driftwood along the riverbank near Kampung Pelak. District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the victim had gone to the river with three friends about 1am yesterday when their boat struck a large piece of floating wood. "The impact of the collision threw all four of them into the water near Kampung Sungai Pinang. However, three of them managed to climb back into the boat, while Fahrol went missing. "They searched the area but were unable to locate him. After several hours of searching along the river, they lodged a police report at the Paloh Hinai police station around 4pm," he said in a statement today. Zaidi said a search and rescue (SAR) operation involving police, firemen, Civil Defence Force personnel, and local villagers was immediately launched. "The operation continued into its second day today and villagers discovered Fahrol's body about 28km from where he fell into the river. His remains were sent to Pekan Hospital for post-mortem examination," he said.
