Much changed Shelbourne still too strong for Fairview Rangers in FAI Cup

Fairview Rangers 0 Shelbourne 4 Champions League chasing Shelbourne kept their domestic matters on track with a comfortable victory over Limerick's Fairview Rangers. A completely changed and youthful Reds XI had far too much for the junior side. Shels boss Joey O'Brien kept Wednesday's Champions League tie with Qarabag in mind and made 11 changes from the mid-week tie against Linfield. It was a squad bulging with talent from their own academy as treble from John Martin as well as Daniel Kelly's effort put them into Tuesday's draw. Those selected would have been eager to make an impression, especially with the volume of European games the Dublin outfit will hope to be involved in during the Autumn. And it took little time for them to make their mark. Inside four minutes they had the advantage as James Norris centred smartly and unselfishly to John Martin, who finished neatly. A fifth goal of the season for the ex-Dundalk attacker who almost opened the scoring inside sixty second but for smart defending by Jake Dillon on the goal line. Fairview, the current FAI Junior Cup kingpins were only returning to action after concluding an historic season domestic in mid-June. They won the Limerick District League, the prestigious Lawson Cup and also the remarkable 10th FAI Junior Cup title, which maintained their perfect record in finals in that competition. The visitors doubled their advantage on 24 minutes, when Daniel Kelly read the long ball from 'keeper Lorcan Healy. The Fairview keeper hesitated to allow the pacy Kelly to stroll around him and dispatch into an empty net. Gbadebo Habideen had a tentative penalty appeal waved away for the 'View, as the hosts enjoyed a second enough second quarter. The experienced Jeffrey Judge almost halved the lead with the last act of the half, curling narrowly wide from a narrowing angle. It remained a comfortable two goal lead at the change of ends for the current League of Ireland champions. It was 3-0 entering the final quarter as captain for the day, Seán Boyd, headed down to Martin who volleyed home. Debuts at this level came late for subs Offor Raymond, James Bailey and Daniel Ring before Martin completed his hat-trick five minutes from time – this time Aderinsola Adewale delivered the final pass. Fairview Rangers: J McCarthy; J Dillon (C), T O'Connor, J Cross, B Ahern (D O'Neill 22); J Judge, C Kavanagh (S Carmody 67); O Vysochan (J McCarthy 67), C McNamara, A Dore (R McCarthy 67); G Habideen (C Lategan 80). Shelbourne: L Healy; J Roche, L Temple, S Bone; D Kelly (C Ryan 55) , A Moloney (A Adewale 55), E Chapman (D Ring 79), J O'Sullivan, J Norris (R Offor 79); J Martin, S Boyd (C) (J Bailey 79). North End United boss Gary Dempsey happy to finish rollercoaster season on high

North End United manager Gary Dempsey may not have a whole lot in common with late American rocker Meat Loaf, but the feeling after Sunday's Wexford FC Cup victory was two out of three ain't bad. Having won the Wexford Premier Division title and fallen short against Fairview Rangers in the FAI Junior Cup final, the Sky Blues really wanted to regain that winning feeling as they took on holders Forth Celtic in the Wexford FC Cup decider.

Limerick's Fairview Rangers win FAI Junior Cup for tenth time

FAI Junior Cup final: Fairview Rangers 4 North End United 1 Fairview Rangers are FAI Junior Cup champions for the tenth time following a 4-1 victory over North End United at Turner's Cross. Second half goals from Jason Cross, Josh McCarthy, and Rubin McCarthy were the difference, and that means the trophy is going to Limerick for the first time in five years. North End United set up a big finish after Reece Murphy equalised following Jeffery Judge's opener, but it wasn't to be for a team managed by Gary Dempsey, an FA Youth Cup winner with Everton. The Wexford kingpins, fresh from retaining their Premier Division crown, started fast by putting an inviting cross into the box and that was almost turned in by Cross. This burst faded into a period of uncertainty for Fairview Rangers as their captain, former Cork City and Limerick FC midfielder Shane Duggan, went off injured. They came through the challenge and managed to set up Judge for a close range finish at the St Anne's End in the 25th minute. An opportunity to double Fairview's lead fell to Cian Kavanagh after the restart and the midfielder kicked the ball straight at Jason Maguire. Gbadebo Habideen also found himself in space during this period, and the striker fired wide from right in front of the posts. Fairview finished the half by creating two quick opportunities inside the box for Habideen and Adam Dore, and these were blocked down. The game restarted with North End United winning a corner and Gary Delaney headed this narrowly wide. Paul Murphy also broke through the Fairview midfield during this spell and the forward's shot went straight into the hands of Josh McCarthy. Something was coming and it arrived from a corner after Paul Murphy knocked the ball on and Reece Murphy got in to score in the 59th minute. What got Fairview over the line were the changes, as North End pushed for another equaliser, Cross headed in a corner in the 73rd minute. The next time they got in that position, Oleg Vysochan found Josh McCarthy and the substitute side footed the ball in at the Shed End. Fairview had one more in them, and that came from a neat moving involving Habideen. The striker dribbled into the area and saw his attempt saved by an onrushing Maguire. The loose ball went out to Rubin McCarthy, who hit the back of the net from right in front of the posts in the sixth minute of time added on. FAIRVIEW RANGERS: Josh McCarthy; Jake Dillon, Brian Ahern (Blake Curran 67), Conor Kavanagh, Jason Cross, Jeffery Judge (Rubin McCarthy 90), Shane Duggan (Shane Carmody 21), Cian McNamara (Josh McCarthy 81), Gbadebo Habideen, Oleg Vysochan, Adam Dore (Daniel O'Neill 71). NORTH END UNITED: Jason Maguire; Ayman Yousif, Todd Hynes, Reece Murphy, Gary Delaney, Alan Rhodes (Shane Dempsey 80), Ciaran Paige, John Pearce, Eoin Rhodes, Paul Murphy, Robert Kane (Craig McCabe HT).
