This is the heartbreaking final social media post from footballer Diogo Jota in which he celebrated 'a day we will never forget'. The Portuguese winger, 28, died following a tragic car crash which also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva. In his final post on social media, Jota shared a video from his wedding to long-term partner Rute Cardoso, which took place on June 22. In the caption, the tragic footballer wrote: 'A day we will never forget.' Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed the tragedy. They said: 'The Portuguese Football Federation and the entire Portuguese football community are devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva in Spain this morning. Pic: Instagram/Rute Cardoso 'Diogo Jota was not only a fantastic player with almost 50 caps for the national team, but also an extraordinary person who was respected by all his teammates and opponents. He had a contagious joy and was a reference point in his own community. 'On behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation and myself, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Diogo and Andre, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the respective clubs of the players.' They added: 'The Portuguese Football Federation has asked UEFA to hold a minute's silence ahead of our national team's match against Spain in the Women's European Championship on Thursday. 'We have lost two champions. Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football, and we will do everything we can to honour their legacy every day.' Jota was part of Liverpool's Premier League-winning side in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring six goals in 26 appearances.

'The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received several calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora,' local police have said in a statement. 'A car was reported to have been involved in an accident and the vehicle was on fire. '1-1-2 notified the Zamora Traffic Police, the Zamora Provincial Council Fire Brigade, and the Sacyl Emergency Coordination Center (CCU) of this accident. Diogo Jota. Pic:'From there, a Medical Emergency Unit (UME) and the Primary Care Medical Staff (MAP) from the Mombuey Health Center were sent, who confirmed the death of two people on the scene.'
