There have been many rumours on who could be taking on the coveted role, including Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, Spider-Man's Tom Holland and Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson. ‌ It is now being said Hammersmith-born star Callum Turner could also be in running for the role. In new odds from Heart Bingo, the Masters of the Air star, who is engaged with Dua Lipa, is being lined up as the next 007. Sarah Caskie, Head of Brand for online website Heart Bingo, said: 'The masses have spoken on X and we've collated the data to find that Callum Turner is the people's choice to replace Daniel Craig, with 63% of posts concerning his potential role in the next film being positive, while 0% were negative." ‌ ‌ She added: "Henry Cavill's 34% positivity put him second in the eyes of the public, but 3% didn't seem too keen on him being the next Bond." Callum is best known for his role as Theseus Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Frank Churchill in Emma. He also starred in The Boys in the Boat, and TV shows Masters of the Air and The Capture. ‌ Amazon completed its massive $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM Studios just over three years ago, which included the James Bond franchise. To me, he's sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.' He continued: 'This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.'

'As a TV writer, I refuse to watch the new Harry Potter series for one reason'

The TV adaptation of Harry Potter has been a hot topic since it was first announced back in 2023 HBO has unveiled the first official photo of 11 year old Dominic McLaughlin as the new 'boy who lived', which almost had me convinced that "actually, this might work" upon seeing Dominic's beaming grin complete with the iconic Harry Potter spectacles and burgundy tie. ‌ However, that fleeting optimism quickly vanished. ‌ When HBO announced the TV series adaptation of Harry Potter back in 2023, it made headlines around the globe, and now the plan for a seven-season journey to cover all the books is drawing heavy criticism. ‌ From the initial outcry over casting choices to the storm brewing around J. controversial stance on transgender matters, the upcoming series has been caught in a crossfire of contention. For me, the decision to avoid the new series is simple and based on the timeless wisdom: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." ‌ The original Harry Potter film series remains one of cinema's most extraordinary success stories, generating billions at the box office and garnering universal critical praise. Beloved by countless fans, the films continue to cast spells across generations and even saw Evanna Lynch's character Luna Lovegood emboldening youths to celebrate their uniqueness. The franchise laid the foundation for sparkling careers of its lead actors – notably Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who prior to the films, only had acting experience from school dramas. ‌ The final moments of The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 remain etched in our minds, as the triumphant trio handed the baton to their offspring after conquering the forces of darkness. It felt like the ultimate cue to say, "let's close that book now", and yet we hear tales of a TV series potentially costing a robust $8 billion, which begs justification. ‌ For those who breathe Potterverse air, there's a place for fresh narratives like the Fantastic Beasts films or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage. These expansions offer new adventures within the magical world, avoiding repetitive storytelling. Yet it seems we're facing another tug at the cash cow when perhaps it's best left alone. A poignant sentiment captured from a fan post-release of Dominic McLaughlin's snapshot reads: "The series no one asked for. Even my little nieces and cousins love the original, they don't need a new version of it." I won't attempt to sum it up any better than that, so I'll simply repeat: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Create Account Depp won his defamation suit against Heard in 2022, but before that legal victory he had lost a libel case against British tabloid The Sun in November 2020 after suing the outlet for publishing a 2018 article that referred to him as a 'wife-beater.' That courtroom setback caused the three-time Oscar nominee to lose his part as Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spinoff series. Depp had shot for one day on the third instalment, 2022's The Secrets of Dumbledore , when Warner Bros. asked him to drop out of the film. 'It literally stopped in a millisecond, like, while I was doing the movie,' Depp told The Telegraph in a new interview. 'They said we'd like you to resign. But instead of quietly stepping away, Depp decided to fight back in order to preserve his reputation and career. 'F*** you,' he told the newspaper of his reaction to getting fired. 'There's far too many of me to kill. If you think you can hurt me more than I've already been hurt you're gravely mistaken.' Depp decided to fight back and sued Heard because if he didn't speak up 't hen I wouldn't have been me.' 'Of course, everyone tells you, 'Don't do it. You're crazy,'' he recalled. Depp said his experience afterwards led to him being 'shunned, dumped, booted, deep-sixed, cancelled' in Hollywood. But he took legal action against Heard in 2022 after she wrote a 2018 Washington Post op-ed following their 2016 split in which she called herself as a survivor of domestic abuse. Intimate details involving D epp and Heard's personal lives were revealed at the trial, which streamed online for all the world to see. Depp told The Sunday Times last month that he had people telling him to avoid a trial and 'all the hit pieces, the bulls***' that would ensue. But he was determined to have his day in court. 'I knew I'd have to semi-eviscerate myself. Everyone was saying, 'It'll go away!' But I can't trust that,' Depp told the Times . 'What will go away? The fiction pawned around the f***ing globe? No it won't. If I don't try to represent the truth it will be like I've actually committed the acts I am accused of. And my kids will have to live with it. Their kids. Kids that I've met in hospitals. So the night before the trial in Virginia I didn't feel nervous. If you don't have to memorize lines, if you're just speaking the truth? Roll the dice.' Throughout the six-week trial in the spring of 2022, jurors and people watching at home online got a peek into the couple's extravagant and sordid relationship. During her testimony, Heard claimed that Depp attacked her multiple times including on their honeymoon . Jurors eventually sided with Depp, finding Heard guilty of defamation and awarding the Finding Neverland star $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Heard's countersuit against Depp was also partially successful, as he was found guilty on one count of defamation through his former lawyer Adam Waldman. After both parties appealed the verdicts, the pair agreed to a settlement in December 2022, with Depp's camp saying that the deal included a $1-million payment from her to him which was donated to charity. With his reputation cleared, Depp has headed back to work, signing on to play King Louis XV opposite co-star and director Maiwenn in Jeanne Du Barry and directing Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness , with Riccardo Scamarcio in the lead and Al Pacino co-starring. He's also in the midst of shooting Marc Webb's thriller Day Drinker with Penelope Cruz. Depp also reflected in his chat with the Times about being betrayed by former friends as he referred to himself as 'a crash test dummy' for the #MeToo movement. But he was determined to move forward with a clean slate. 'Look, none of this was going (to) be easy, but I didn't care,' he told the British outlet . 'I thought, 'I'll fight until the bitter f***ing end.' And if I end up pumping gas? That's alright. I've done that before.' mdaniell@ Read More Toronto Blue Jays NHL Columnists Toronto & GTA Olympics
