Johnny Depp Says He Was a "Crash Test Dummy for #MeToo" and Has 'No Regrets' Facing Off Amber Heard in Court
Yara Sameh Johnny Depp said he was 'crash test dummy for #MeToo' in a new interview with The Sunday Times as he sets out to promote the U.K. theatrical release of his latest directorial effort, 'Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness.' Depp was referring to the allegations first leveled at him in 2016 by ex-wife Amber Heard, who accused him of domestic violence when she filed for divorce. Heard's allegations notably fed into two trials that garnered global attention. Depp brought a libel lawsuit against The Sun in 2018 after the publication referred to him as a 'wife beater.' The trial kicked off in summer 2020 and ended with the court determining that the characterization of Depp as a 'wife beater' was 'substantially true.' Later in the year, Depp exited Warner Bros.' 'Fantastic Beasts' franchise after saying the studio asked him to resign from the role in the aftermath of the trial. A second and even more highly-publicized trial took place in the U.S. in 2022 after Depp sued Heard in 2019 for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as 'a figure representing domestic abuse.' The 2022 trial was live-streamed on YouTube and became an online sensation. The jury ultimately ruled that Heard did defame Depp in the op-ed, while also ruling Depp defamed Heard in the course of fighting back against her charges. Throughout the trial, shocking details about Depp and Heard's personal lives were revealed. 'Look, it had gone far enough,' Depp reflected on the viral 2022 trial. 'I knew I'd have to semi-eviscerate myself. Everyone was saying, 'It'll go away!' But I can't trust that. What will go away? The fiction pawned around the fucking globe? No it won't. If I don't try to represent the truth it will be like I've actually committed the acts I am accused of. And my kids will have to live with it. Their kids. Kids that I've met in hospitals. So the night before the trial in Virginia I didn't feel nervous. If you don't have to memorize lines, if you're just speaking the truth? Roll the dice.' Depp said he survived 'all the hit pieces, the bullshit' that accompanied the trial, adding: 'Look, none of this was going be easy, but I didn't care. I thought, 'I'll fight until the bitter fucking end.' And if I end up pumping gas? That's all right. I've done that before.' A few years after the end of the U.S. trial, Depp is now getting the chance to come back to Hollywood by starring opposite 'Blow' co-star Penelope Cruz in the Lionsgate action comedy 'Day Drinker.' He told the Times about his life: 'I have no regrets about anything — because, truly, what can we do about last week's dinner? Not a fucking thing.' 'It's Very Exciting': Singer Dua Lipa Confirms Engagement With Actor Callum Turner
After months of rumours and speculation, it has now been confirmed that Albanian-British superstar Dua Lipa is engaged to her boyfriend, now fiancé, actor Callum Turner. The singer has been spotted wearing what appears to be an engagement ring since earlier this year, but has never addressed the status of her relationship with the 'Fantastic Beasts' star. During a recent interview with British VOGUE, the 29-year-old got candid about her engagement and when she and her husband-to-be are planning to officially tie the knot. Here's what she said: In the interview published yesterday (Thursday, 12th June), Dua Lipa opened up about touring the world and how excited she is to perform at Wembley Stadium, a show that sold out in minutes. 'That's definitely been a massive dream, and it's going to be quite surreal. You know, stadiums — that seems pretty scary,' she said. Beyond her career, the singer also spoke about how important family is to her. She expressed gratitude to her loved ones for supporting her dreams throughout her life, and shared how accepting they have been of Callum Turner. When asked about the marriage rumours, especially since she's been spotted with the big ring on her finger, the 'Levitating' artist finally confirmed: 'Yeah, we're engaged. It's very exciting. This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever — it's a really special feeling.' However, the couple have yet to discuss a wedding date and location, with Dua saying she wants to focus on completing her tour first. 'I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period. I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden, I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'' she stated. There's really no rush, so for now, Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are simply enjoying their engagement and focusing on their respective careers. Strike,' the upcoming 'Harry Potter' adaptation on HBO will see Rowling, 59, serve as an executive producer. However, Bloys insisted that Rowling's role as an executive producer does not mean that her 'personal political views' will be 'secretly infused' into the show. During an interview with the Times of London on April 27, Lithgow revealed that he has already received significant backlash for joining the project. 'I thought, 'Why is this a factor at all?' I wonder how J.K. Rowling has absorbed it,' the 'Conclave' actor, 79, said. 'I suppose at a certain point I'll meet her, and I'm curious to talk to her.'
