Norfolk farmer to enter Love Island villa
A farmer from Norfolk is one of the latest contestants to enter the Love Island villa. Will Means - who comes from a farming family in Terrington St Clement - is joining three others, including Giorgio Russo, the brother of England Lioness Alessia Russo. The four are set to appear at the end of tonight's episode of the ITV2 show, which is filmed in Majorca. According to his LinkedIn, Will is currently a sales representative at Coca-Cola but spent seven summers working on the family farm in west Norfolk. His father, Mark Means, was named Farmer of the Year in 2024 at the Farmers Weekly Awards. Talking about why he wanted to take part, the 25-year-old said: "I'm excited and looking forward to getting in there and speaking to girls. "It's the chance to meet a soulmate, which would be great. "I grew up on the family farm and I was named the fourth fittest farmer by Farmers' Weekly in 2023. It's a fitness competition. "It was good. A bit of a laugh, fourth in the UK is quite cool. "I think about 5,000 entered. It raises awareness for mental health as well and helps build a community among young farmers who spend a lot of time in tractors on their own." Will is the latest person from Norfolk to try and find love in the villa. Harley Judge, who went to Attleborough High School, entered the villa as a 22-year-old in 2017. He coupled up with eventual winner Amber Davies on the first day and the pair shared a steamy kiss just hours after meeting. Sadly, Harley didn't find love and was the first islander to be booted out of the villa. In 2018 Sam Bird, a then-gym owner from Norwich, entered the Majorcan villa as a bombshell on day 19 and coupled up with Samira Mighty. Sam ended up in a drama-filled couple with Georgia Steel and the pair were dumped from the villa on day 47 after refusing to couple up with other contestants. The couple broke up shortly after the show and Sam married Kailah Casillas-Bird last year. Ellie Spence from Norwich joined the winter series of the show in 2023 and after entering as a bombshell she spent two weeks in the villa before getting the boot. Last summer, Caine Bacon from Bradwell went to Fiji to take part in the US version of the show. He entered the villa on day 17 and was dumped from the island on day 25.

Anglesey beef farmer uses Squire seed to lower CO2
Dylan Jones at Castellior, Anglesey, has been growing Wynnstay's Squire grass for the past 15 years. Farming in partnership with his father Wyn, he finishes around 1,600 dairy cross cattle a year on the 820-acre farm, taking between four and five cuts of high-yielding, high-protein silage a year, producing 2,500 tonnes to feed the livestock. Using the mixture as part of a two-to-three-year grass rotation has helped the pair move towards a low-carbon system. Despite farming intensively, they have managed to reduce their carbon footprint to just 3.9kg of CO2 per kilogram (kg) of beef liveweight (LW) compared to the national average in Wales of 11-16 CO2/kg LW. Prior to changing the system at Castellior, they used a seven-year rotation and had been growing a two-to-three-year ley in small quantities. In 2016, the Joneses started the transition to a two-to-three-year rotation. Due to the volume of manure used with the barley crops, the following grass seed performed exceptionally well with very little chemical nitrogen (N). Growing nitrogen-fixing peas or red clover as a previous crop also plays a big role in establishing the following grass ley, as it generates enough growth that no chemical fertiliser is used for the first silage cut. Dylan said: "We find that Squire really does the job. "It has been part of our system for many years and has contributed to our success. "We wanted to bring the carbon footprint down; we have achieved this and using the seed has been a key part of that." "Squire, being a two-to-three-year ley, will perform with very little chemical N; it has red clover in the mix which is great at fixing N in the soil. "I'm passionate about hitting my environmental goals and every step I've taken towards net zero has been a profitable one for the business." The Joneses buy beef stores in at 18 to 24 months, with an average of 99 days to slaughter, meaning quality feed is important. They have also earned some accolades along the way, being crowned winners of the British Grassland Society's Grassland Farmer of the Year 2024 and Farmers Weekly's Beef Farmer of the Year 2024. The family also grow 350 acres of barley and peas for feed, along with some red clover, and are entirely self-sufficient in the finishing enterprise. Dylan said: "We keep everything self-contained, using homegrown feed and doing all of the machine work ourselves. "We want to keep the business as self-sufficient as we can and strive to have as few carbon emissions as possible."
