'We're doing this to raise money for the Sifil Under-12s and bring people together.' Eight under-12 teams competed from 12pm to 4pm in the football tournament, representing Marlborough United, Coronation (Corrie's), Cardley Court and hosts Sifil AFC, each entering two teams. 'All the parents, the refs everyone pitched in to make this happen,' Gareth said. 'It's about community, and just getting Newport families and young players connected.' Green Top Markets say they hope to host many more events like this around Newport, using their full infrastructure to support local causes and create more shared spaces. "We're hoping to do this as a more permanent thing, so Green Top Markets runs events everywhere. We're based in Newport and my goal as the owner is to ultimately get more activities and more events going on in Newport. We've got all the infrastructure, as you can see, we own all of our stuff. We've got a lot of other elements to what we can bring to Newport and ultimately that's what we're trying to do".

Scullion Law has also achieved two sets of respected industry rankings and welcomed new and promoted team members A Hamilton law firm is in the running for two awards at this year's prestigious Scottish legal awards. Scullion Law is a finalist in the categories of property team and private client team of the year, with the awards ceremony taking place in Glasgow in September. ‌ The firm, based at Cadzow Street, is also celebrating impressive grades in two sets of legal rankings; as well as marking milestones including promotions and anniversaries for staff members. ‌ Property law team lead Gemma Miller and Ailidh Ballantyne, head of Scullion's wills, powers of attorney and bereavement team, both praised staff for their work resulting in the two legal award nominations. The team of six property specialists have been shortlisted for 'outstanding service in helping clients navigate the buying and selling process with ease and confidence', reaching the award finals at their first entry attempt which Gemma described as 'an incredible achievement'. She said: 'I'm so proud of the entire team for their hard work, passion, and commitment to client care. They show up every day with a drive to make the property journey as smooth and stress-free as possible for our clients, and this recognition proves just how much of a difference they're making.' The property team also recently marked the achievement of associate director Farrah Ali in reaching the mileston of 10 years with the firm, having joined in 2015, qualifying as a solicitor two years later and then earning promotion to her current post in 2022. She said: 'The past 10 years have been incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful for the support and opportunities provided by the firm. I look forward to continuing to contribute to our success and making a positive impact for our clients.' ‌ Farrah was praised for her 'unwavering commitment and excellence', with property team lead Gemma adding: 'It's been a pleasure to watch Farrah grow both professionally and personally. She gives everything 110 per cent and consistently delivers excellent service to clients.' Scullion's wills, powers of attorney and bereavement team was rebranded last year 'to better reflect its mission of guiding families through life's most sensitive legal matters', and department head Ailidh said the legal awards nomination 'solidifies our commitment to our clients and helps us achieve our aim of improving lives and making a difference. ‌ 'We are incredibly grateful to have such a dedicated team who continually provide five-star service to clients and who go above and beyond in all ways. To be a finalist demonstrates the quality of work we carry out and the strength and commitment of our team.' The company has also secured a band two ranking for its crime work and band four for family law in the 2025 Legal 500 rankings, with the criminal law team being praised for its 'excellent' timeline for communications and feedback from clients, and the family team being commended for providing 'high-quality services in a client-friendly way'. The two departments at the local firm also received respective band one and four assessments in this year's Chambers and Partners rankings, in which Scullion is included for the first time. ‌ Head of road traffic and criminal law Kris Buchanan said: 'Our dedication to justice and our clients' rights is at the core of everything we do. Being recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers is a testament to our hard work and commitment to excellence'. The team has recently announced the promotion of Anna MacKay to senior associate director, shortly after her success in winning the rising star title at the Legal 500 awards; plus the promotion of Stephanie Grieve to associate director and the arrival of solicitor advocate Darren Fleming. Judith Higson, who is Scullion's head of family law, said: 'We are delighted to be acknowledged for our compassionate and effective approach. Our team is dedicated to supporting clients through challenging times with sensitivity and professionalism, and this recognition is a reflection of our commitment to their wellbeing.' ‌ Her team has also recently welcomed new associate director Claire Thomas and paralegal Carly Russell. Popular New York Restaurant Chain Pita Gourmet Closing Original Location on June 30

A popular Mediterranean restaurant chain in Western New York will be closing its doors later this month. Pita Gourmet previously announced two new locations would be coming to the area, but first its original location will be coming to a close on June 30. The chain currently has locations in East Amherst, Amherst, Williamsville, Niagara Falls, Hamburg, and Orchard Park The chain got its start in 2005 after the family approached a food court vendor in the Niagara Falls Outlet Mall about using the family's pita bread. Initially, the vendor turned down the family's offer as the restaurant was closing permanently. "What seemed like bad timing was not at all. Our mom loved creating her own Mediterranean-American dishes, her family made pita bread, and now there was about to be a vacant restaurant. It was a trifecta. Why not take over the restaurant? She pitched her idea to her children—Farrah, Monique, Joseph, and Mark. We were on board. In 2005, Pita Gourmet was born," the chain said on its website. As the restaurant continues to expand in the area, it will be saying goodbye to that original location. "We're moving to 3030 Niagara Falls Blvd! As we say goodbye to our original location at the Fashion Outlets on June 30, we're excited to serve WNY from our new spot this summer! Stay tuned for more!" the chain said in a statement last month. The chain also plans to open a seventh location in Cheektowaga in the spring of New York Restaurant Chain Pita Gourmet Closing Original Location on June 30 first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025
