See Why This Under-$10 Lip Product Has Over 17,000 5-Star Reviews
I am a self-proclaimed lip balm and gloss enthusiast, but I'll be the first to tell you there's only one lip product I've used until the tube was empty, and that's the Nyx Fat Oil Lip Drip. Available in 14 shades, from pale pinks to deep browns and even a clear shade for those who don't want pigment, the Fat Oil Lip Drip is one of my favorite drugstore makeup products.
The name is slightly deceiving if you're expecting a true lip oil: This is more of a lip gloss in terms of formula and thickness, but I find the feel of the 'lip drip' to be somewhere in between the two. It's not as sticky and gloopy as many other glosses I've tried, but also not as thin and watery as other lip oils. Even Nyx appears to agree, based on the product descriptions that refer interchangeably to the product as a lip gloss and oil. Regardless of what category the Fat Oil is part of, I love how soft and hydrated it makes my lips.
I'm definitely not the only one with that opinion, either. The gloss has gained over 17,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, and more than 2,000 at Ulta and Target each. Reviews love to call out the sweet but not overpowering scent and taste, the affordability compared to other glosses, and the hydrating quality. The formula includes squalene, raspberry, and cloudberry oils, and promises to deliver up to 12 hours of hydration and protection.
I'll be honest and admit I have had to reapply several times throughout the day, mostly after eating, but my lips weren't dry or chapped even after it rubbed off. Plus, I don't really mind reapplying since the giant, soft doe foot applicator is kind of fun — it makes a very satisfying popping noise when you pull it out of the tube.
One of my favorite aspects of this gloss is the color — my go-to shade is Missed Call, a lighter pink shade. The gloss is sheer but buildable, and delivers a gorgeous wash of color that brings a little more life back to my face. It's also subtle enough to look natural when I don't feel like wearing other makeup. That shade became the solution to my frankly overcrowded collection of lip balms and glosses, because now I reach for it regardless of where I'm going.
If you're tempted to try out the Fat Oil Lip Drip, just do it. At this price and with this many shades, I can't encourage it enough. I carry my tube around in every bag, and once this one's empty, too, I definitely plan on buying another... and maybe a few more, to try out all the different colors. Keep reading for more reviews of this beloved gloss, or just add it to your cart and prepare to join me in my Fat Oil devotion.
Promising reviews:
'I bought this in the first place to buy a lip oil that was cute and not expensive. I got it because I wanted the shade berry from the Dior lip oil, but I realized it was 40 dollars! Don't wait another second by this now! The texture is more of a gloss than a lip oil, and it's not sticky at all! They have all types of shades, and it also smells soooooo good. This is great quality and also the shine it has is outstanding! Good for kids and teens, too. Totally buy! Gloss it's soooo affordable!' — Whitney
'I have used this lip oil for a few years, and I love it! I usually have several bottles open. I t works well to give your lips time to repair themselves without cracking more. It does not dry your lips out like most other chapsticks and leaves them feeling soft after it has worn off/soaked in. It does feel heavy once you put it on, but that feeling does not last very long.' — Makayla
"The cold weather and dry indoors made my lips start cracking and peeling. They were starting to burn when I ate anything. I tried the usual lip balms and Burt's Bees. Nothing made them feel or get better. I began to use my splash of cream and immediately felt the burning go away. Two days of applying every six hours or so and no more peeling! Feel so much better and softer. I'm a huge fan." — Michelle Miller
"I love this lipgloss!! It gives a great glossy shine, and I love the texture. It's thick but not too thick where you can't separate your lips, and the color is gorgeous! It's my favorite lipgloss, and I sometimes use it as blush!" — Jacqueline Franco
