Senior US consulate staffer killed in Mexico car crash
A senior American consulate staffer in Mexico was killed in a car crash Wednesday, according to a report.
US Vice Consul in Monterrey Brian Matthew Faughan was mortally wounded in the rollover crash on the Torreón-Saltillo highway around 6:15 p.m., ABC News Mexico reported.
Faughan, 41, was transported to nearby Matamoros Hospital.

The diplomat sustained a basal skull fracture, flail chest, tracheal deviation, a fractured pelvis, and an open fracture of his right leg.
Officials found Faughan's injuries to be too severe to transport him to a private hospital, the outlet reported.

He was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m. — an hour after the crash.
The State of Nuevo León's deputy and president of the state's congress offered condolences to Faughan's family following the tragedy.
'I deeply regret the passing of Brian Matthew Faughan, Vice Consul of the US Consulate in Monterrey. My condolences to his family, friends, and work team. May he rest in peace,' Lorena de la Garza wrote on X.

'I deeply regret the passing of Brian Matthew Faughan, Vice Consul of the United States of America in Monterrey. Rest in peace,' former State Secretary of Public Safety Gerardo Palacios echoed in a similar message.
The US Consulate in Monterrey is headed by Melissa Bishop.
She has not spoken out on her deputy's death.
