Indonesia to cut tariffs, non-tariff barriers in US trade deal, Trump official says

July 22 (Reuters) - Indonesia will drop tariffs to zero on more than 99% of its trade with the United States and will also eliminate all non-tariff barriers for American goods in a deal that cuts threatened U.S. tariffs on Indonesian products to 19% from an initial 32%, a senior Trump administration official said on Tuesday. Indonesia will immediately drop its plans to levy tariffs on internet data flows and will support renewal of a longstanding World Trade Organization moratorium on e-commerce duties, the official told reports on a conference call held a week after the deal was first announced on July 15. Indonesia also will remove recently enacted pre-shipment inspection and verifications of U.S. exports, which have posed problems for U.S. agricultural exports and contributed to a growing U.S. farm trade deficit, the official said. In a win for U.S. automakers, the official said that Indonesia has agreed to accept U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for vehicles exported from the United States to the growing country of 280 million people. Indonesia also has agreed to remove export restrictions on critical minerals and remove local content requirements products using these commodities shipped to the U.S. Keywords: USA TRUMP/TARIFFS INDONESIA Error in retrieving data Sign in to access your portfolio Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data Error in retrieving data

Dodge Recalls Charger EV Because It Isn't Legally Noisy Enough

Electric vehicles are much quieter than combustion-powered cars. However, they're not supposed to be totally silent. Federal law requires EVs to emit a sound for pedestrians and other drivers, but it seems Dodge might have produced a number of Charger Daytonas with amplifiers that fail to make any sound at all. The recall affects 8,390 2024-2025 Charger Daytona models. According to the recall notice, Dodge built the vehicles between April 30, 2024, and March 18, 2025, with amps that might have an 'incomplete software upload, which may prevent the emission of exterior sound.' Photo by: Brian Silvestro / Motor1 This sound, in theory, should be totally separate from the car's standard " Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust ," which uses speakers mounted in the rear bumper to replicate the sound of a rumbly V-8 engine. Even with that feature switched off, the Charger is still legally required to make a sound of some kind at lower speeds. The automaker began investigating the problem on April 17, meeting with engineers and the supplier while reviewing warranty data, field records, and customer assistance records. It decided to issue a voluntary recall for the affected vehicles on June 6. Dodge will begin notifying affected owners around July 10, as their vehicles might fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The dealer will inspect the vehicle and update the amplifier's software if it fails to make a sound. Chrysler Owners Won't Like Stellantis's Recall of Over 250K Vehicles

Stellantis has recalled up to 250,651 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager minivans built between 2022 and 2025 over a side curtain airbag defect. According to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), some of these vehicles may have been built with a curtain airbag that does not retain sufficient pressure during deployment, potentially reducing passenger protection and increasing the risk of partial or complete ejection of an occupant through a side window during certain crash types. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards also require side curtain airbags to hold passengers' heads in place during some crash scenarios. FCA noted that the solution for this condition isn't currently available, but the recall is estimated to launch in Q3 2025, and owners will receive a letter when the final fix is ready. The remedy will include Chrysler inspecting and replacing the side curtain airbags, which may be located on either the right or left side, as necessary, when parts arrive. Chrysler's recall applies to 209,668 Pacificas and 40,983 Voyagers. Chrysler determined that some of the side curtain airbags can leak at the seam because of improper seals, potentially causing the airbag to lose pressure during a crash. The suspect period began on May 10, 2022, when certain curtain airbags were introduced into production and continued through the end of the production period on November 3, 2024. While Chrysler became aware of the issue in April 2023, its underlying cause wasn't pinpointed until April 2024 due to Canada's repeated non-compliance tests. A deeper investigation at Chrysler occurred between September 2024 and April 2025, with official non-compliance confirmed on May 1. The NHTSA wrote: "Curtain airbags, which do not have proper pressure retention, may reduce occupant protection and increase the risk of partial and complete ejection of an occupant through a side window during certain types of crashes." Chrysler isn't aware of any injuries attributed to the defective airbags, and the NHTSA estimates that 14% of the 250,651 Pacifica and Voyager units are at risk of airbag failure. American-Swedish company Autoliv is the supplier of the suspect airbags, autoevolution reports. Chrysler produces both the Pacifica and Voyager at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, and its Pacifica was the U.S.'s best-selling minivan of Q1 2025 with 32,409 deliveries. The Voyager sold far fewer models during Q1 at 2,319 units. The 2025 Pacifica starts at $42,450, while the 2025 Voyager has a base price of $39,995. Other recalls published by the NHTSA from June 23 to June 29 include the Ford Motor Company recalling certain 2020-2025 Lincoln Aviators over trim that may detach on up to 132,914 vehicles and up to 70,852 BMWs being affected by drive motor software causing power loss on 2022-2025 i4, 2022-2024 IX, 2023-2024 I7, and 2024 I5 models. Owners of Chrysler minivans in the NHTSA's published recall can check their vehicle identification number (VIN) if a notice hasn't arrived yet by mail. These models' VINs start with the number two since they're Canadian-made, whereas U.S. VINs start with 1, 4, or 5. Chrysler's recall highlights the importance of compliance testing, as this protocol helped Canadian authorities identify the underlying cause of the defect before the automaker. Popular brand to recall nearly 200,000 vehicles over 'trapped' fears

A popular car manufacturer is urging drivers to take their vehicle to back to the dealership to fix an issue that could otherwise result in passengers getting 'trapped' inside the car Thousands of passengers risk being 'trapped' in their car due to a common fault, experts have warned. Some of the world's most popular car brands including Honda, Ford, and Mercedes recently announced the recall of hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to a range of serious safety concerns. All of the recalls have been issued in the United States, collectively affecting more than 850,000 vehicles in total, with a variety of mechanical and electronic issues identified that increase the likelihood of crashes and other hazardous situations — but only if they remain on the road without being repaired. ‌ It is always of the utmost importance to address potential safety defects in vehicles promptly to protect not just yourself, but everyone on the road. If you're concerned your car may be impacted, it's best to contact your local dealership. ‌ Honda The American Honda Motor Company is recalling around 260,000 vehicles in the States due to concerns that a brake pedal could shift out of position, which would prevent the driver from being able to apply the brakes. If this were to happen, the vehicles would fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards related to lighting and brake systems. The recall affects certain Acura TLX (2021-2025), Acura MDX (2023-2025) and Honda Pilot (2023-2025) models. Honda plans to notify owners by mail around July 28, 2025, with instructions on how to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as needed. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz has also issued a significant recall, affecting almost 92,000 vehicles. The issue centres on the C-pillar, which may not absorb enough impact in the event of a crash. In the event of an accident, the rear occupant's head could come into contact with the C-pillar, potentially causing catastrophic harm. The recall covers certain 2023-2025 GLC 300, GLC 300 4MATIC, 2024-2025 AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, 2025 GLC 350E 4MATIC and AMG GLC 63 S E vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof. Mercedes-Benz has instructed dealers to modify the roof lining of affected vehicles to address the problem. ‌ Ford Ford has registered documents with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicating that over 500,000 of its vehicles are being recalled for various issues. The largest of these recalls involves certain Aviator and Explorer models manufactured between 2020 and 2025, with 304,662 units affected. The main concern is that the second-row seats in these vehicles could move unexpectedly, which may prevent them from properly restraining occupants during a crash. This could significantly increase the risk of injury. Ford dealers will inspect the second-row seat switch and, if necessary, replace the bezel around the switch. ‌ Another major issue for Ford involves nearly 200,000 Mustang Mach E vehicles produced between 2021 and 2025. If these vehicles have a low battery charge, the electronic door latches may remain locked after the driver or front passenger exits and shuts the door. This could result in a situation where a person in the back seat is unable to use the inside door release handles to exit the vehicle. The NHTSA warned that this defect could 'possibly trap someone who is unable to use the inside door release handles, such as a child in the back seat'. Ford has therefore advised owners to bring their vehicles to dealerships, where the necessary software updates will be provided free of charge. Notification letters were scheduled to be sent to owners by June 23, 2025, with a follow-up letter planned when the fix becomes available, which is expected by September 29. Although Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this problem, the company has provided guidance for drivers to recognise warning signs. These include a 'system off to save power' alert or a blank SYNC screen after turning off the vehicle. In these cases, drivers may need to pull the inside release handles more forcefully than usual to exit through the front door. These recalls highlight ongoing safety concerns in the automotive industry and the importance of prompt action by manufacturers to address potential risks to drivers and passengers. All repairs related to these recalls will be carried out free of charge.
