Dy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka advocates use of modern technology to meet needs of power consumers
HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday emphasised the need for the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) to adopt modern technology to meet the evolving needs of electricity consumers. Speaking at a review meeting with SPDCL senior officials, including Principal Secretary of Energy department Naveen Mittal and SPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqi, at Praja Bhavan, the deputy CM issued key directives aimed at strengthening service delivery, infrastructure readiness and consumer engagement. He particularly stressed the need for '100 per cent implementation' of the Feeder Outage Management System (FOMS), a technology that ensures immediate alerts to control rooms in case of power supply disruptions. When the officials brought to his notice that 5,500 out of 6,500 feeders have already been brought under FOMS, the minister directed them to bring the remaining feeders under this system. Appreciating the SPDCL's achievement in securing ISO 9000 certification, the deputy CM said it reflects the organisation's progress in areas such as operations, consumer service and administrative efficiency. He urged officials to aim for more national-level awards through continued improvements in service standards. New dress code Vikramarka also reviewed the newly proposed dress code for field staff, offering several suggestions for better functionality and identification. Underscoring the importance of efficient leadership, he reminded directors — selected based on experience and competence — to focus on pending tasks in their respective domains and complete them in a phased manner.

Deputy CM asks SPDCL to adopt modern tech, raise consumer awareness on power services
HYDERABAD Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka has asked the senior engineers and Directors of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) to adopt modern technology that align with the evolving needs of consumers in the digital era and improve the delivery of services. In a meeting with the officials of the Southern Discom here on Tuesday, Mr. Vikramarka, who handles the portfolios of Energy and Finance, told them to expedite the complete implementation of the Feeder Outage Management System (FOMS), which would ensure real-time alerts to the control room whenever there was a power supply disruption. The Discom officials explained to the Deputy Chief Minister that FOMS had already been implemented across 5,500 of the 6,500 feeders under the SPDCL limits. The Deputy CM told them to integrate the remaining feeders into the system swiftly. He congratulated the Discom for earning the ISO 9000 certification, acknowledging it as a commendable achievement based on performance in areas such as operations, consumer service delivery and timely clearance of office files/resolution of grievances. He encouraged officials to continue improving and aim for more such awards in the future. Mr. Vikramarka also reviewed the new dress code designed for field staff and offered suggestions for its implementation. He stated that Directors were appointed based on their extensive experience and proven capabilities and asked them to create and implement an action plan to complete the long-pending tasks within their respective domains. He noted that new transformers and sub-stations were being set up as soon as the load on the existing ones reached 70%, ensuring uninterrupted power supply through advanced planning. He stated that a comprehensive solar power strategy would soon be rolled out, and instructed department staff to be fully prepared for its implementation. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of the Energy department Naveen Mittal, Chairman and Managing Director of TGSPDCL Md. Musharraf Faruqui along with Directors and senior engineers.

Be on your toes always: TGSPDCL boss to babus
Hyderabad: Musharraf Faruqui, Chairman and Managing Director of Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL), has directed officials to ensure continuous availability to consumers and to conduct regular interaction programmes every Wednesday in bastis and colonies. Speaking at a meeting held recently at the company's headquarters in Mint Compound with Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, and Divisional Engineers, the CMD stated that out of 8,681 11kV feeders under the company's jurisdiction, 6,885 are currently monitored through the Feeder Outage Management System. Efforts are actively underway to bring the remaining feeders under this comprehensive system as well. He announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based services are being introduced at the distribution level to record details of power demand, supply, and interruptions online, providing immediate alerts to relevant engineers. Analysing these details, he noted, will enable the delivery of more efficient service. While the Feeder Outage Management System is already operational at substations and feeders, the integration of AI-based services is expected to further assist in identifying supply issues and defects at the field level, leading to enhanced service provision for consumers. The CMD also issued clear directives to officials, instructing them to monitor power supply daily at the Distribution Transformer (DTR) level. Divisional Engineers and Superintending Engineers were specifically told to focus on feeders and DTRs experiencing frequent issues, conduct thorough field visits, and take all necessary remedial actions promptly. Noting that power demand, particularly within Greater Hyderabad, is increasing significantly each year, the CMD instructed officials to prepare detailed reports by 15 August outlining the measures required to effectively address this growing demand. He further emphasised that services such as sanctioning new connections must be processed strictly as per Standards of Performance (SOP) within the stipulated timeframes, ensuring that no consumer complaints arise.
