Washington Nationals All-Star Emerges as Surprising Trade Deadline Candidate
Will a first-time All-Star for the Washington Nationals be on the move at the trade deadline? According to reporter Mark Feinsand, it's a real possibility. Feinsand reports that pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who was involved in the Juan Soto blockbuster trade in 2022, has been mentioned as a 'potential' trade candidate. The 26-year-old Gore has emerged as an ace in his fourth MLB season. He has a 3.02 ERA, 133 ERA+, 2.91 FIP, 1.196 WHIP and 3.6 bWAR across 19 starts and 110 1/3 innings this season. Gore is also third in the National League in strikeouts with 138. With the Nationals recently firing general manager Mike Rizzo, Washington's new front office could be inclined to part with Gore since he's under club control through 2027. The southpaw would bring back a significant haul of prospects from a playoff contender looking to upgrade their starting rotation. Gore told Feinsand ahead of the All-Star game he's not putting too much merit into the trade rumors. 'Having been traded before, it's just one of those things you don't even think about,' Gore explained. 'You love the guys you're around and you grow as a group with these guys, but I'm just trying to stack good starts and whatever happens, happens.' Even though Gore hasn't been linked to any teams publicly, those looking for starting pitching at the deadline include the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first four seasons, Gore is 25-34 with a 3.93 ERA, 103 ERA+, 3.86 FIP, 1.371 WHIP and 542 strikeouts in 483 innings. Trade Pitch Moves Rays' Zack Littell to Dodgers
Trade Pitch Moves Rays' Zack Littell to Dodgers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. No matter how many starting pitchers the Los Angeles Dodgers have at their disposal, there always seems to be a need for more of them. Advertisement The Dodgers' list of players at the position is a lengthy one: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow and Dustin May. And that doesn't include two-way pitcher Shohei Ohtani, who made his return to the mound on Monday, and both Tony Gonsolin and Roki Sasaki, who are currently sidelined with injuries. But as the famous saying goes, "The more, the merrier." And MLB Network Insider sees current Tampa Bay Rays starter Zack Littell as another arm that could join the Dodgers' roster ahead of the trade deadline. Feinsand also lists the Athletics, Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs as trade destinations for Littell. "The 40-33 Rays currently hold the top Wild Card spot in the American League and sit only 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, but Tampa Bay has a history of buying and selling based on players' contract situations, making Littell – an impending free agent at the end of the season – a potential trade chip," Feinsand wrote. "Given the number of teams looking for rotation help, Littell (6-6, 3.84 ERA in 14 starts) could bring back a solid return for Tampa Bay, a team with enough rotation depth from which to deal." Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Zack Littell (52) throws a pitch in the first inning against the Baltimore Orioles at George M. Steinbrenner Dyer-Imagn Images Littell, who began his MLB career as a reliever, has emerged as a consistent starter over the past three years. He is a career 30-28 pitcher with a 3.91 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 427 strikeouts and 114 walks in 508.2 innings pitched across 217 appearances, including 62 starts. Advertisement Littell has played for four clubs in his big league career: the Minnesota Twins (2018-2020), San Francisco Giants (2021-2022), Boston Red Sox (2023) and Rays (2023 to present). Will Red-Hot Orioles Consider Trading Ryan Mountcastle?
Will Red-Hot Orioles Consider Trading Ryan Mountcastle? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Maybe it's time to keep an eye on the Baltimore Orioles. After what's appeared to be a lost season, including the firing of manager Brandon Hyde, the Orioles are suddenly on fire. The O's have won six in a row and nine of 11 games to give fans a glimmer of what many thought the club could be coming into 2025. Advertisement Their latest uptick could be the reason why the Orioles alter their philosophy going into next month's MLB trade deadline. As noted by Mark Feinsand, 'Baltimore might be the most intriguing team to watch during the next eight weeks.' Say the Orioles climb closer to .500 – they went into Friday at 25-36 – and find themselves back in the Wild Card race? That could change things considerably, according to Feinsand. What will the Orioles do at the MLB trade deadline? 'If the Orioles are able to turn things around, GM Mike Elias could look to add some much-needed pitching with the hope of a second-half run, but the more likely scenario is that Baltimore opts to sell off some pieces and look to contend in 2026,' Feinsand wrote. Yes, it's a big ask for the O's to get back in contention by the July 31 deadline to make deals. As pointed out, the team has a number of pitchers such as Zach Eflin, Tomoyuki Sugano, Charlie Morton, Gregory Soto and Seranthony Dominguez headed to free agency after this season, along with outfielders Cedric Mullins, Ryan O'Hearn and Ramón Laureano. Advertisement Those are attractive expiring contracts to dangle in trades, with Feinsand adding that 'Eflin, Sugano, Mullins and O'Hearn would all help a number of contenders should they get moved.' But those aren't the only assets. First baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who has one year of team control remaining and it currently on the injured list, could be an 'intriguing trade candidate' with recently-recalled top prospect Coby Mayo 'waiting in the wings.'
