INDYCAR Power Rankings: Who Joins Alex Palou In Moving Up?
Alex Palou is back on top. No surprise after his sixth victory of the season Sunday at Road America. And the driver who finished second to him, Felix Rosenqvist, is back in these power rankings. He and David Malukas are now on the list. Off the list? All the Penske drivers. Hard to fathom but they just have not had the results in recent weeks. They've had speed. It would be no surprise to see any of them win a race. But their recent results have to be frustrating. They've got no top 10s in the last two races. Here are the power rankings after back-to-back race weekends. The series has an off-week coming up, before four consecutive weeks of racing at Mid-Ohio, Iowa, Toronto and Laguna Seca. Dropped out: Will Power (Last Week: 6), Scott McLaughlin (LW: 10) On the verge: Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden, Will Power 10. Colton Herta (LW: 8) Herta was 16th at Road America and just did not have a good weekend. Yes, Power was ahead of him on the list previously and finished a couple of spots ahead of him on Sunday, but Herta has earned more points than Power over the last month, keeping Herta on the list. 9. David Malukas (LW: NR) A seventh-place finish was his second top 10 in the last four races with the other finishes in the top 15. The A.J. Foyt Racing driver is grinding out good finishes, despite having some adversity in races. 8. Marcus Armstrong (LW: 9) Armstrong was a solid fifth at Road America, giving him three consecutive top-10 finishes. The Meyer Shank Racing driver has five top 10s in the nine races this year. 7. Christian Lundgaard (LW: 5) Lundgaard, at one point, was the fastest car on his tire strategy. But his day went south with a spin while racing Herta at Road America. The Arrow McLaren driver had to settle for 24th. 6. Felix Rosenqvist (LW: NR) After finishes of 21st and 16th in the previous two races, Rosenqvist earned his fourth top five of the year with a second-place finish at Road America. The Meyer Shank driver hopes that he will get back some of the momentum he had earlier in the year. 5. Santino Ferrucci (LW: 7) Ferrucci earned his fourth consecutive top-five finish with a third at Road America, giving the A.J. Foyt Racing driver a second, a third and two fifths in his last four starts. 4. Pato O'Ward (LW: 3) A forgettable weekend pretty much for O'Ward, as he finished 17th at Road America. Expect the Arrow McLaren driver to be better at Mid-Ohio. He won there last year. 3. Scott Dixon (LW: 4) Dixon had speed but not the strategy, as he had to pit from the lead with a couple laps remaining to finish ninth. The Chip Ganassi Racing driver could use some luck. 2. Kyle Kirkwood (LW: 1) Kirkwood didn't have the speed to keep pace with the leaders but made the most of his strategy and finished fourth. The Andretti driver was coming off back-to-back wins and has five top fives this year. 1. Alex Palou (LW: 2) Palou was fast all weekend and ended up having the victorious strategy at Road America. With six wins this year, it makes you wonder if this is a battle for second. Bob Pockrass covers NASCAR and INDYCAR for FOX Sports. Alex Palou Breaks Mini Drought and Races to Victory in XPEL Grand Prix at Road America
Alex Palou's dominance in the 2025 INDYCAR season took a brief pause after he won the Indianapolis 500. He was knocked out of the race at the Detroit Grand Prix early and finished eighth at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 last week. That ended up being the end of Palou's drought. He raced to victory again on Sunday, finishing first in the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. Felix Rosenqvist finished second and Santino Ferrucci finished third. Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top five, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Scott Dixon held the lead late in Sunday's race. But he had to go to pit road with two laps remaining, allowing Palou to regain the lead. Palou led for six of the 55 laps on Sunday, while Dixon finished ninth after leading for 27 laps. Sunday's win marked Palou's sixth victory in nine INDYCAR races this season. He sang "Red Solo Cup" right after the victory, too. There were also plenty of cautions in Sunday's race. Spin-outs and crashes forced Josef Newgarden, Sting Ray Robb and Robert Shwartzman to not finish the race. Christian Lundgaard, meanwhile, spun out late in Sunday's race, causing a caution as he fell out of the leader's pack to finish 24th. Here's a full look at Sunday's leaderboard: 1. Alex Palou2. Leader Palou grabs sixth Indycar win, Dixon gamble backfires
Photo: PHOTOSPORT Series leader Alex Palou clings on to notch a sixth Indycars season win in Wisconsin while New Zealand's Scott Dixon just falls short after employing a bold fuel strategy. After starting 25th on the grid at the Grand Prix of Road America, veteran Chip Ganassi Racind driver Dixon led for a race-high 27 laps out of 55 laps, courtesy of an early pit stop and some good luck with a safety car stoppage. Having looked like he could hold on to land his first win of the season, Dixon's fuel bottomed out and he was forced to pit again with two laps to go, to ultimately finish ninth. Photo: PHOTOSPORT Palou led for only six laps but squeezed out the win on low fuel, having drafted behind team-mate Dixon over the closing stages to ensure he'd reach the chequered flag. The Spaniard notched his sixth win in nine rounds but his first since the Indianapolis 500 to extend his dominant lead in the championship standings to 93 points over American Kyle Kirkwood. Sweden's Felix Rosenqvist took second, and Santino Ferrucci continued a hot stretch of his own by placing third, while Kirkwood was fourth and New Zealand's Marcus Armstrong fifth. The third Kiwi in the field, Scott McLaughlin, was 12th after leading on the opening lap of a topsy-turvy street race. "It was a crazy race," Palou said. "I had moments I thought we were losing a ton [more] position than we were making. "It was a tough race for everybody, but kudos to the team for the amazing strategy, and Honda, man. HRC being able to give us the fuel mileage we needed at the end to make it." Palou became the first IndyCar driver since A.J. Foyt in 1975 to win six of the first nine races in a campaign. He will be hard to catch over the final eight rounds. Dixon is fifth overall, with McLaughlin eighth and Armstrong 10th. - Reuters/RNZ

Palou wins at Road America to boost IndyCar season lead
Spain's Alex Palou captured the IndyCar Grand Prix at Road America for his sixth win in nine races this season (James Gilbert) Alex Palou won his sixth IndyCar race in nine season starts, the Spaniard holding off Sweden's Felix Rosenqvist to capture Sunday's Grand Prix at Road America on low fuel. Palou boosted his season points lead by taking his first victory since last month's Indianapolis 500, enduring after 55 laps over the 4.014-mile, 14-turn road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Advertisement "It was a crazy race," Palou said. "Losing a ton of positions and then making them, it was a tough race for everybody." Palou became the first IndyCar driver since A.J. Foyt in 1975 to win six of the first nine races in a campaign. Rosenqvist was second, two seconds back, and American Santino Ferrucci was third, running out of fuel one turn after the checkered flag. Four caution flags in the first 23 laps prompted teams to adopt differing fuel strategies, and by lap 28 it was New Zealand's Scott Dixon leading. American Josef Newgarden was second before crashing on turn 14, leaving Dixon ahead with Palou and Rossi just behind after a lap-31 restart. Advertisement The race came down to those three trying to conserve fuel over the final laps to reach the end while Rosenqvist, on full fuel in fourth, tried to overtake them. Rossi went to the pits with four laps remaining and Dixon pitted for fuel a lap later, leaving Palou to outlast Rosenqvist with his fuel tank nearly dry. "Kudos to the team for the amazing strategy and Honda for giving us the fuel mileage we needed to make it at the end," Palou said. "Couldn't be happier." Palou, seeking his fourth season title in five years, leads the points chase with 386 with American Kyle Kirkwood, a three-time winner this season, 93 points adrift in second. Advertisement Palou matched the IndyCar record of three wins at Road America, also held by Mario and Michael Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi. Rosenqvist settled for second on the track where his only IndyCar triumph came in 2020. js/bb

Chip Ganassi Drivers Pull Off Major Fuel Save in Route to Sixth Alex Palou Victory in 2025
While Chip Ganassi driver Scott Dixon was unable to pull off a ___ fuel save, with the attempt to pit for the final time with 18 laps to go, the effort helped lead to a win for his teammate Alex Palou. Palou pitted with 16 laps to go and was able to complete the cooldown lap after the race as several drivers that pitted at the same time stalled after crossing the finish line. Knowing that Dixon, even if he's an all-time great when it comes to saving fuel, would need to splash and go on the final lap, CGR was able to utilize Dixon's position in the lead. Palou drafted behind Dixon in the closing stint to save fuel and keep his buffer over Alexandar Rossi, who pitted on the same lap as Dixon. When Rossi went to the pits with three laps to go, Felix Rosenqvist, who seemed to be on the winning strategy until CGR pulled off the fuel save, moved to third. Rosenqvist grabbed his first podium with Meyer Shank and was just two seconds away from his second career win, the first one came at Road America in 2020 with CGR. Santino Ferrucci completed the podium, his first podium since he was DQ'd from third at the Streets of Detroit earlier this month. With Palou's sixth win on the season, the streak of just two winners in 2025 continues with Kyle Kirkwood taking Long Beach, Detroit, and Nashville. This is the first time since 1980 that two drivers have swept the first nine races of a season. Johnny Ruthersford and Bobby Unser's streak was broken that year in the tenth race when Michael Andretti won the Gould Grand Prix at Michigan International Speedway.
