Ireland striker Evan Ferguson's loan deal with big buy option clause agreed

Evan Ferguson's loan deal to Roma has been agreed - with a €40m buy option clause included. Brighton have agreed to loan the Republic of Ireland striker to the Serie A club after lengthy talks, with Roma's initial weighing up a €30m swoop for Ferguson. While there were other clubs interested, including Celtic, Everton and Atalanta, the 20-year-old's preference was a move to Roma and a verbal agreement has now been reached. Ferguson looked certain to be on the move again this summer after Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler confirmed he would have to sell players to recoup some of the €80m he has spent on signings since the end of last season. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini sees Ferguson as a player who can push Artem Dovbyk for a first team place after the club were free to enter the transfer market now that UEFA have closed the case on their breaching of Financial Fair Play. Although he has another three years on his contract with the Premier League club, Brighton were open for another move for the forward whose career lost momentum after he spent six months sidelined after ankle ligament surgery in April of last year. He made just two starts before another ankle injury in late December ruled him out for a month and almost scuppered his prospects of moving away from Brighton on loan. He joined West Ham on loan late in the transfer window but started just one game for the Hammers. Get the latest sports headlines straight to your inbox by signing up for free email alerts.

Former Oregon Ducks TE Terrance Ferguson inks rookie deal with Los Angeles Rams

Former Oregon Ducks tight end Terrance Ferguson signed his rookie deal with the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday morning, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The four-year, $9,713,466 contract comes with $8,046,753 guaranteed. Ferguson was selected 46th overall in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, landing in a favorable spot with the Rams. He was the first Duck TE drafted since 2010, when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected David Paulson in the third round. The deal was signed later than usual, as second-round rookies and their agents have pushed for more guaranteed money on their rookie deals this offseason. Across four seasons with the Ducks, Ferguson left as Oregon's all-time leader among TE's in receptions (134) and ranked second all-time in receiving yards (1,537). He had an especially excellent 2024 campaign, finishing as an All-Big Ten third-team performer and was on the John Mackey Award watch list for the best tight end in the country in 2024. He tied the Oregon single-season record for receptions by a TE with 43 while finishing second in single-season history with 591 receiving yards. By the time the season ended, Ferguson was in the end zone three times in 2024 and totaled 16 touchdowns for his career. Now with the Rams, Ferguson has a chance to once again impress under head coach and offensive wiz Sean McVay. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is also one of the purest passers in the league, giving the former Duck a nice runway to begin his NFL career. Tanker truck crashes, spills fuel into creek on Washingtons Olympic Peninsula

Washington, Jul 19 (AP) A tanker truck crashed into a creek on Washington's Olympic Peninsula on Friday, spilling fuel into a tributary of a river where salmon runs were recently restored after a decades-long fight to remove its dams. A spokesperson for Gov. Bob Ferguson's office said the petroleum spill in Indian Creek was the result of an accident on US 101. It was not immediately clear what caused it. The truck is capable of holding 6,000 gallons of diesel and 4,000 gallons of gasoline, although the exact amount that had entered the river was not known, according to the governor's office. 'The truck is actively leaking and crews are working to contain the spill," the governor's office statement Friday evening said. Photos shared by the Washington State Department of Transportation on Facebook show the tanker truck upside down in the creek, while emergency vehicles surround the scene. 'This spill is nothing short of heartbreaking for local tribes and other Washingtonians who rely on clean, healthy rivers and streams for their food and livelihoods," Ferguson said in a statement. He said he is closely monitoring the situation, including its effect on salmon, and plans to visit within the next few days. Two dams on the Elwha River, which flows out of Olympic National Park into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, were removed more than a decade ago after a long fought battle by the the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Removing the dams, which were constructed in the early 1900s, opened about 70 miles (113 kilometres) of habitat for salmon and steelhead. Biologists have said it will take at least a generation for the river to recover, but within months of the dams being taken down, salmon already started recolonising sections of the waterway long closed off to them. The Elwha River is also the main potable water source for Port Angeles. The city announced Friday afternoon that it was temporarily shutting down its water treatment processing operations and asked residents and businesses to limit their use of water. 'The City's reservoirs currently have sufficient water supply for the next 18 to 24 hours without interruption to normal service," the city's statement said. The spill and collision closed part of US 101 on Friday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. It said it couldn't give an estimate on when it would reopen. 'We expect this to be an extended closure," the department wrote in a post on Facebook.
