Here's how you can volunteer to help workers in Dubai this summer

The second edition of the Al Freej Fridge Campaign is well underway in Dubai, and there are ways you can make your own mark on the initiative this summer – here's how you can volunteer in Dubai. Supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), Ferjan Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) and the UAE Food Bank, the initiative aims to distribute 2 million bottles of cold water, juices, and frozen treats, will run for 58 days at various locations around the city. The general public of Dubai is being called on to do their bit and participate in volunteering for the campaign. So far, the outcome has been very promising with the team now having to give the volunteers single chances in order to accommodate everyone who showed up, but time is still left, and showing up is being encouraged. How to volunteer? There are three ways to volunteer for the program. The initiative has six ice cream trucks that travel around the city distributing chilled treats to blue-collar workers. You can volunteer to stay on the truck and travel around with it, doing the distribution from the truck. If you've got a vehicle of your own, you can also volunteer to drive around yourself and do the distribution. The team will provide you with the cooler and the items to be handed out. Alternatively, you can volunteer to purchase the items yourself and make the distribution. This will enable the initiative to reach all the corners of Dubai, as community outreach will ensure that ground where the trucks haven't reached is also being covered. Residents who register using the sign-up sheet on the Ferjan Dubai social media account will be given a sticker to put on their cars and a volunteer jacket to clearly identify them as being part of the initiative. Volunteers can choose between two shifts of 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on several dates in July and August. @ Images: MBRGI > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in

Suqia UAE to provide 700,000 cold water bottles to workers in Dubai

Under the umbrella of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, Suqia UAE has contributed to the second edition of the humanitarian community campaign "Al Freej Fridge' by providing 700,000 bottles of cold water to be distributed to workers at their job sites across various areas of Dubai. The initiative aims to ease the impact of summer heat on workers, support their wellbeing, and promote values of compassion and solidarity within the Dubai community. This contribution is part of Suqia UAE's partnership with the Al Freej Fridge campaign, launched by Ferjan Dubai, with the support of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and in collaboration with the UAE Food Bank. The campaign seeks to distribute 2 million bottles of water, juices, and frozen treats to workers across Dubai by Aug.23. The campaign targets cleaning and construction workers, delivery drivers, and roadside and landscaping workers, helping reduce health risks associated with extreme heat, such as dehydration and heat exhaustion. Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia UAE, said, "We are pleased to support the second edition of the 'Al Freej Fridge' humanitarian community campaign by providing nearly 700,000 bottles of water. We value the vital role of this impactful initiative, which directly touches the lives of workers and helps reduce the health risks they face due to summer heat. It also reflects the authentic values that define the community of the United Arab Emirates. In the Year of the Community, Suqia UAE reaffirms its commitment to working alongside local and global partners to implement meaningful, sustainable projects and initiatives that enhance people's quality of life.' Ibrahim Al Balooshi, Director of Sustainability and Partnerships at MBRGI, expressed his gratitude to Suqia UAE for its generous support and provision of 700,000 bottles of cold water for the Al Freej Fridge campaign. He emphasised that this support is a key pillar in achieving the campaign's goals and expanding its ability to reach as many workers as possible across Dubai. Al Balooshi noted that Suqia UAE's contribution is part of the campaign's broad participation from both government entities and private companies. This reflects their strong commitment to fulfilling their social responsibility and continuously supporting workers who make tireless efforts across job sites. It also represents a heartfelt gesture of appreciation and recognition for workers who play a direct role in sustaining Dubai's growth and prosperity. The water bottles provided by Suqia UAE play an essential role in the success of the Al Freej Fridge campaign. They are distributed through refrigerated vehicles that move throughout Dubai and are also used to stock fixed fridges in workers' accommodations-significantly boosting the campaign's reach and impact. Suqia UAE's support for the Al Freej Fridge campaign underscores its leading role in backing humanitarian and community-driven initiatives. The foundation's goals align closely with the campaign's mission of fostering social solidarity and protecting vulnerable groups exposed to high temperatures. The first edition of the Al Freej Fridge campaign, organised by Ferjan Dubai in summer 2024, was a major success, having distributed 1 million bottles of cold water, juices, and frozen treats to workers in Dubai, and received wide support from both public and private sector entities. Ferjan Dubai is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering local communities in Dubai's residential neighborhoods. It aims to strengthen communication and trust between these communities and public and private institutions by promoting volunteerism and civic engagement-creating a dynamic social movement that enhances quality of life and encourages positive behaviors and values in society. Suqia UAE is a non-profit organisation operating under Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. It is primarily focused on researching and developing solutions to water scarcity and providing safe drinking water to communities suffering from water shortage and contamination. Beyond securing water for those in need, Suqia UAE is committed to integrating innovative and sustainable technologies as part of a broader solution to the global water crisis. WAM

UAE summer: How to volunteer to hand out cold juices and frozen treats to workers

UAE residents have the opportunity to bring a smile to the face of blue-collar workers this summer. As part of the Al Freej Fridge campaign that aims to distribute ice creams and drinks among workers, the general public is being offered the chance to volunteer their services. Volunteering in the UAE is highly encouraged, with some even being offered the Golden Visa for their selfless service. 'We put out a call for volunteers just two days ago and we already have more than 80 people signing up,' said Alia Al Shamlan, Director of Ferjan Dubai. 'To ensure that we give everyone a chance, we will consider one volunteer sign up for a single chance. Only if we are unable to find other volunteers will we give anyone a repeat chance.' Supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), Ferjan Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) and the UAE Food Bank, launched the second edition of the Al Freej Fridge campaign on June 23. The initiative, which aims to distribute 2 million bottles of cold water, juices, and frozen treats, will run for 58 days at various locations around the city. Volunteering options According to Alia, there are different ways in which the public can volunteer for the initiative. 'We have six ice cream trucks which will travel around the city,' she said. 'Residents can volunteer to travel on these and hand out items to the workers. In addition to that, residents can also come forward to drive around in their own private vehicle to distribute these juices and frozen treats. We will provide them with a cooler and the items to be handed out.' Apart from this, residents can also volunteer for the Freej Fridge programme and buy refreshments on their own to distribute. 'We want to make sure that the programme reaches all parts of Dubai where workers are there,' she said. 'Opening the programme out to the community will help do that.' She added that residents who register, using the sign-up sheet on the Ferjan Dubai social media account, will be given a sticker to put on their cars and a volunteer jacket to clearly identify them as being part of the initiative. Volunteers can choose between two shifts of 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm on several dates in July and August. The initiative, which received an overwhelmingly positive response in its first edition last year, returned with the support of several entities. This year, it is aiming to offer respite to workers from several different location across the emirate.
