Behold, a Script for ‘The Batman Part II'

It feels like the only thing we've heard about The Batman Part II for years now is that various people are waiting on a script to be delivered. Now, with all the energy of a schoolboy rushing to file homework that was due earlier in the week, Reeves has provided evidence: some words that will potentially be in The Batman Part II exist. Reeves took to social media this afternoon to seemingly confirm that the latest version of his sequel to the 2022 DC film was finally ready to be sent off to James Gunn, with a blurry black and white photo of himself and co-writer Mattson Tomlin sitting before a copy of the script. Partners in Crime (Fighters) ⁦@mattsontomlin⁩ — Matt Reeves (@mattreevesLA) June 27, 2025Of course, don't expect any secrets to be revealed out of this blurry first look beyond 'Oh hey, the script exists!' Squint hard enough and you can just about make out that the movie is at least still currently called The Batman Part II, but that's about it. But still, the very fact that this required a teasing social media post speaks to the overlong back-and-forth between interviews as fans clamor for any kind of update on the film. Which, at this point, has mostly been James Gunn telling people that the script was expected soon and people should get off Reeves' back for the delays. 'I'll also say Batman Part II is not canceled. That's the other thing I hear all the time—that Batman Part II is canceled. It's not canceled,' Gunn recently lamented to Rolling Stone about fan impatience. 'We don't have a script. Matt's slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he's doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.' It would appear then, that Reeves has finally done his thing. Now he just has to prepare for those same fans crying 'Script when?' to immediately pivot to 'Filming when?' followed shortly after by 'Trailer when??'. The Batman Part II is currently slated to hit theaters October 1, 2027. Want more io9 news? Barbra Streisand Says ‘They'd Have to Pay Me A Lot of Money' to Return to ‘Meet the Parents' Franchise

While pop star Ariana Grande will grace the big screen once again for the upcoming fourth installment in the Meet the Parents franchise, Barbra Streisand says she will probably not be reprising her role for the new movie. In an interview with Variety published this week, the singer said that after her appearances in Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers, she likely will not return to her role as Roz Focker for the John Hamburg-directed sequel due to what she describes as low pay from her last two appearances in the series. 'I was in the time when women were getting paid less than the men. The head of Universal was Ron Meyer at the time, and he actually sent me a bonus check. It was very sweet.' Streisand originated the role of Roz, protagonist Greg Focker's (Ben Stiller) mother who works as a sex therapist for elderly couples, in 2004's Meet the Fockers. She later reprised the role in 2010's Little Fockers. The news comes as Grande was announced as the latest addition to the franchise back in May, where she's reportedly set to play the 'ball-busting' woman engaged to Stiller's character's son. While Streisand didn't offer any specific reaction to Grande's casting, she did offer praise for the 'Yes, And?' singer, who features alongside Mariah Carey on Streisand's upcoming new duets album The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two. '[Carey and Grande are] the hottest, biggest, most wonderful voices. And they both said yes to join me,' she said in the interview. Elsewhere on The Secret of Life, Streisand duets for the first time with Bob Dylan, which she told Billboard was a 'wonderful' experience. 'I'm ever the director. And he wanted direction, which was so lovely: 'What do you think? What do you want?' He just was so open to trying this or trying that,' she recalled. Mark Hamill Once Again Shared His Dark Motivations for Luke in ‘The Last Jedi'

Luke Skywalker had a wife and a kid who both killed themselves. Well, not really, but that's what Mark Hamill internalized in order to get into the headspace of the character for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. The actor has shared this information before, but it's been a while, so we figured it was worth discussing again with a little distance. Speaking on Bullseye with Jesse Thorn, Hamill explained the headcanon he created to try and understand why Luke Skywalker would have left the Jedi in the sequel trilogy. You can watch the clip here and we'll quote it below. Mark Hamill's MUCH darker backstory idea for Luke in the sequel trilogy 😳 Check out Saturday's episode of Last Week in Star Wars for our thoughts… — Star Wars Explained (@StarWarsExplain) June 26, 2025'I thought, what could make someone give up a devotion to what is basically a religious entity, to give up being a Jedi. Well, the love of a woman,' Hamill said. 'So he falls in love with a woman. He gives up being a Jedi. They have a child together. At some point the child, as a toddler, picks up an unattended lightsaber, pushes the button and is killed instantly. The wife is so full of grief, she kills herself.' He goes on to explain how that sad story resonated with him because of its parallels to modern society and unattended guns and that he didn't really buy the explanation that writer-director Rian Johnson gave in the movie. Over the years, Hamill has been pretty vocal that he didn't agree with Johnson's plans for Luke, which he reiterates here. But that always bothered us a bit. That's because, if you remember back, it was J.J. Abrams, not Rian Johnson, who put Luke on that island. Abrams made a whole movie about Luke on the island, explained nothing, and then just left it to the next guy. That next guy, Johnson, then created a pretty freaking dark and interesting way to explain it all: Luke almost killed his own nephew, who then betrayed him and murdered many, many children as a result. Why his own version worked better for the actor over the one in the movie is unclear. Maybe it's just that Hamill needed a more direct, emotional connection. Whatever the case though, all that matters is he found something to get him to the place where an audience believed. Which he did. Hamill is fantastic in the movie, which we feel is an unexpected but fitting send-off for Luke Skywalker. We're sure every single other person on the internet agrees. Want more io9 news?
