Sarah Michelle Gellar Wants to Bring Back Every Dead Buffy Character in Reboot — Who Do You Want to Return?
The Chosen One has shared some fresh teases about Hulu's highly anticipated reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. During the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, Sarah Michelle Gellar let a few new details slip as to what fans can expect from the forthcoming series. 'It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original,' the actress said at the festival, per Vanity Fair. 'We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.' Returning?! Guess anything goes if you're living on a Hellmouth. Gellar also discussed the creative team's attempt to modernize the series for today's social media-obsessed world. 'One of the surprising aspects of Buffy is that it's always been a crossover series,' she added. 'We're trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media. What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today.' Gellar was lured back into Buffy's knee-high leather boots by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), whose original pitch forms the reboot's basic premise. 'For so many years, I said no to a possible return of the series,' said Gellar. 'I didn't want to reintroduce something we had already seen. I waited for the right time to come. Then Chloé, a big Buffy fan, proposed the project to me and I accepted. The gestation was long. It's been three years and we're still working on it.' The Buffy follow-up was officially announced back in February with Nora Zuckerman and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face) attached as writers, showrunners and executive producers. Zhao is attached to direct and executive-produce, with additional EPs including Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui and Dolly Parton. (Berman, the Kuzuis and Parton all executive-produced the original series.) Gellar will reprise her former role in a recurring capacity rather than a leading one. In May, Ryan Kiera Armstrong was announced as the series' new slayer. Armstrong's character's name was not released. In March, TVLine exclusively reported that the character was a brainy and cerebral teen named Nova, though we noted that the intel was preliminary and subject to change. So, let's talk, Scoobies. 'On one hand, it was fun, because I grew up feeling nerdy and like I wasn't the attractive girl at school," she told The Guardian last month. "I felt flattered; I felt like I was playing a character, like I was pretending to be this attractive actress. Underneath it all, I really felt like this nerdy girl.' Ezra Miller gives bizarre interview about ‘tentative' Hollywood return after shocking Cannes appearance
Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Ezra Miller gave a rare — and peculiar — interview in which they addressed their return to Hollywood as well as their extremely surprising Cannes appearance earlier this year. The actor posed on the red carpet for the first time in two years at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival in Cagliari, Italy, on Thursday and told Italian outlet, Lo Speciale Giornale, that their relationship to cinema is now 'on tentative grounds'. Miller — who had a slew of legal issues in 2022 — also spoke out about their blink-and-you-miss-it red carpet appearance at Cannes in May, during which they sprinted across the media line at the premiere of Lynne Ramsey's Die, My Love, reports The New York Post'sPage Six. 'I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world who is Lynne Ramsey — who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers,' Miller said of Ramsey, who previously directed Miller in 2011's We Need to Talk About Kevin. Miller claimed they're writing an unnamed film with Ramsey, and added, 'that will likely be the first thing I do' when returning to Hollywood. 'I've been writing a lot, because you can do that in solitude,' Miller remarked, 'which has been friendly to me'. Miller has given a peculiar new interview. Picture: YouTube They also said they'd 'do anything' for Ramsey, despite Cannes being a 'tough re-entry point' to the industry. 'If you've been in the woods for three years, I do not recommend going straight to Cannes, where every photographer and every weirdo, every rich genocidal freak be there, you know what I mean?' The Perks of Being a Wallflower star was memorably arrested and charged in Hawaii following two alleged incidents at a karaoke bar in March 2022, to which they pleaded no contest. Then, they were hit with a restraining order by two residents claiming they harassed and threatened them, which was later dropped. X SUBSCRIBER ONLY A month later, Miller was arrested on a second degree assault chair after they allegedly threw a chair and hit a woman during an encounter at a private residence. In June 2022, a parent accused Miller of grooming their child from the age of 12. Another parent came forward the same month with an allegation that Miller 'menaced their family one evening in their downstairs neighbour's home and acted inappropriately toward' a 12-year-old minor. No charges were filed against Miller and they later released a statement saying, 'I have been unjustly and directly targeted by an individual who the facts have shown has a history of such manipulative and destructive action'. That same month they were accused of allegedly housing a mother and her three children in an unsafe environment at a Vermont farm — though by August, Miller told cops the family hadn't lived there in months. Miller as The Flash in a scene from the DC film. Also in August 2022, Miller was accused of burglarising a Vermont home and allegedly stealing several bottles of alcohol. They pleaded guilty to misdemeanour unlawful trespass and was put on one-year probation. Miller issued an apology later that month and announced they were seeking treatment. 'Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,' they told Variety at the time. 'I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.' The actor has been at the centre of a series of controversies in recent years. Picture:During the interview with the Italian outlet on Thursday, Miller seemingly addressed the drama, waxing philosophical in a rambling set of comments. 'When we go through those crucibles, if we can survive, which was up in the air for me if I'm being real, we then have that capacity to see other people in their crucibles and just to reach towards them,' they said. 'I think that grows more and more rarefied in our world too. Like, the capacity to do that, the desire to do that, the willingness to do that,' they continued. 'We've become very consumed in notions of perception, self-perception, how we're perceived in the world. I really believe in digging past that and being a friend to people. And the people who did that for me, they have my lifelong devotion,' they explained. 'And also I'm grateful for the revelations of who was not that,' they said. 'When you work in this industry, you'll find yourself in deep, deep relation with a lot of people who do not give a single f**k about you, or your well-being, at all. And so, not that I don't hold a lot of remorse and lamentation for a lot of things that I did and a lot of things that happened in that time, but I'm really, really grateful for the lessons that came with that abyss.' Simon Baker shocks as the Aussie actor attends major film festival in open-toe Birkenstocks
Simon Baker has popped up in Italy, where he attended an exclusive media event looking every part the quintessential casual Australian. The Aussie A-lister attended the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival at Forte Village in Cagliari, Sardinia alongside other Hollywood Talent on Thursday. The film and television event, now in its 8th edition, will present more than 70 films, which are either Italian or world premieres, until Sunday, with the aim of spotlighting Italian and international cinema and supporting talent. Baker is set to receive the Filming Italy Excellence Award. The 55-year-old looked dapper as posed with the festival's General Director, Tiziana Rocca, and Twilight star, actress Ashley Greene. Baker donned his signature glasses, which he paired with a pair of jeans, a belt, and a light-coloured shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. However, it was the Boy Swallows Universe star's choice of footwear that baffled fans. Baker opted for a pair of moss-green Birkenstock slides instead of dress shoes for the occasion. The actor proudly paraded his unique style as Tiziana stood beside him and pointed to the famed Australian. A close-up shot of his shoes showed that they appeared slightly worse for wear but were still in good condition. "I love his simplicity," one fan wrote on Instagram. "He looks great," another person said. Baker traded the Hollywood lights for a country getaway in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, near where he grew up, in 2016. The laid-back celebrity in April championed the "beautiful frankness" of Down Under after having immersed himself in many parts of the world. "Once you start to assimilate back into our culture, you also realise there's a beautiful frankness to Australians that is priceless," he told Esquire Australia. "There's no flowery way of putting things; it's just direct. "And that level of authenticity is grounding. It's like a cosy blanket. It's very comfortable and familiar for me." The actor, who rose to fame as consultant Patrick Jane in The Mentalist from 2008 to 2015, broke his silence in April on the status of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and whether he'll reprise his role in the upcoming sequel. Baker played the elusive Christian Thompson in the 2006 hit and revealed to he's unlikely to make a comeback. "I haven't got the call up yet," he said. "So I don't know- probably not, no." It comes as there has been no word on whether Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, will return ahead of the sequel next May. The follow-up is expected to explore Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) grappling with the decline of the magazine industry while former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) returns for a dramatic showdown.
