‘The Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 3 Episode 3 Recap: Engagement Reveal Ends In Chaos

Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Belly (Lola Tung) in THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY Photo: Erika Doss © ... More AMAZON CONTENT SERVICES LLC Wedding bells are ringing, but not everyone is celebrating. Last week's two-episode Season 3 premiere brought heartbreak, lots of drama and a surprise proposal that left many fans reeling. The next new episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty is now streaming on Prime Video, so here's a full recap of everything that went down. As a quick refresher for what happened last week, Belly is finishing up her junior year at Finch College and preparing for a magical summer in Cousins. Jeremiah is supposed to graduate but can't due to missing credits, meaning he'll have to be a super senior and take classes in the fall. This complicates Belly's plans after she learns she's been accepted into the Paris study abroad program for the fall of her senior year. Belly and Jeremiah's relationship has had its ups and downs over the past four years, but nothing could have prepared viewers for what happened next. At a frat party, Belly overhears a girl named Lacie claiming she hooked up with Jair in Cabo during Spring Break. Technically, Belly and Jair were on a break at the time after an argument — but they got back together as soon as he returned, and he never mentioned that he had slept with someone else. Belly breaks up with Jeremiah and struggles to come to terms with how he could have done something so hurtful, even though he believed they were no longer together. But her feelings begin to shift after Steven gets into a serious car accident. Jeremiah waits overnight at the hospital while keeping his distance. After Steven wakes up from his coma, Belly and Jelly reconcile. He proposes to her outside the hospital and she says yes. The engagement news will likely come as a shock to everyone — especially Belly's ex and Jeremiah's brother, Conrad, who is studying to become a doctor at Stanford. He had planned to visit Cousins for his mom's dedication but backs out after securing a coveted summer clinical residency alongside his pre-med friend, Agnes. However, the residency doesn't last long: Conrad gets himself fired after refusing to take a break upon hearing about Steven's accident, which leads to him mislabeling blood vials. Spoilers ahead for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 1. Episode 3 begins with Jeremiah and Belly in post-engagement bliss. He finally gets down on one knee and officially proposes with a tiny ring in his dorm room. Jeremiah tries to keep their engagement a secret until the weekend in Cousins — until he starts shouting it from his dorm window for everyone to hear. Belly breaks the engagement news to Taylor, and her best friend does not take it well. When Belly reminds her that she was the one who encouraged her to forgive Jeremiah after the cheating incident, Taylor clarifies that she meant talk to him, not get married. Still, Taylor reluctantly promises to keep the engagement a secret. As for Taylor, she's still heartbroken over Steven ending their situationship in the previous episode. He's now recovering from the accident at home, secretly squeezing in work sessions despite being on bed rest. Agnes checks in with Conrad after he gets kicked out of the summer program. He's considering applying for another position at Garth Lab, this time working in research rather than with patients. Meanwhile, Belly returns home after finishing her junior year. During the car ride, her dad suspects she might be onto him about hooking up with her mom, but in reality, she's lost in thought about the engagement she's hiding. Conrad doesn't want to go to Cousins for his mom's dedication, but Agnes urges him to face his feelings. When he tells her she doesn't know what it's like, she responds, 'Do you mean I have no idea what it's like to be in unrequited love with someone who's never going to feel the same way back?' — hinting at her romantic feelings for him. She explains that she stuck it out and worked through it, and that's exactly what Conrad needs to do to normalize the situation with Jeremiah and Belly. Taylor visits Belly and apologizes for how she acted earlier at the coffee shop. Belly asks her to be her maid of honor, and she accepts. Taylor even pulls out an old scrapbook they made filled with their dream wedding inspiration. She tells Belly that she's going to need her, because once Laurel finds out, it's going to be a full-fledged apocalypse. Belly meets Jeremiah at the dedication at the women's shelter and tells him her dad won't be able to make it, which is a bummer, since she wanted her whole family there when they shared the news. Conrad took Agnes advice and shows up at the dedication, taking Belly and Jeremiah by surprise. She and Jeremiah decide to hold off on announcing their engagement and keep the day focused on Susannah. But Belly changes her mind. During dinner with their families, Adam and Laurel go around sharing their kids' accomplishments and bright futures. When Adam refers to Jeremiah as a super senior and downplays his future plans, Belly steps in and says that Jeremiah actually does have big plans — and so does she. In fact, they have big plans together. 'We're getting married… in August,' Belly announces. Laurel immediately asks if it's a joke. Adam turns to Jeremiah and demands to know what he's dragged Belly into, while Steven asks if they're being serious right now. Laurel then asks if her daughter is pregnant, and Belly and Jeremiah say no. Laurel tells Belly that if they wanted to take the next step — like moving in together or fostering a cat — that would've made more sense, but marriage is too much. Adam tells Jeremiah he hopes he doesn't think he's getting his mother's ring, and Jeremiah replies that he didn't expect it. Conrad is basically just sitting there in shock, while Laurel abruptly cancels the entire dinner… just as the seafood tower arrives. Belly and Jeremiah get up and walk out of the restaurant together. Jeremiah says they'll come around (they have to, right?). Laurel pulls Belly into the car, and everyone leaves separately. Conrad is the last to leave the restaurant, his face filled with confusion, maybe regret, and definitely shock. They knew their parents' reactions would be intense, but did they expect the announcement of their marriage plans to blow up this badly? That said, their families' concerns aren't unwarranted: they're both young, Belly hasn't explored life outside of the Fisher brothers and Jeremiah still needs to get his life on track. It will also be interesting to see more of Conrad's reaction in the next episode, because this definitely wasn't the definition of 'exposure therapy' Agnes had in mind. The next episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 airs on Wednesday, July 30. Check out the full release schedule below.

Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 shifts timeline and deepens drama with major plot changes

The third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has premiered on Prime Video, bringing a four-year time jump and significant deviations from Jenny Han's third novel, We'll Always Have Summer. The beloved coming-of-age series continues to follow Isabel 'Belly' Conklin (Lola Tung) as she navigates a complicated love triangle with brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). This season opens with Belly in her junior year at Finch College, joined by her best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) and longtime boyfriend Jeremiah. The show extends the novel's original two-year jump into a four-year leap, creating more space for believable relationship dynamics and adult character development. Jeremiah, still reeling from college party culture, discovers he's graduating late due to missed course updates. Belly, meanwhile, finds a new calling in sports psychology after a career-ending volleyball injury. Her brother Steven (Sean Kaufman), having graduated early from Princeton, now works at a tech start-up with Adam Fisher (Tom Everett Scott). Beyond academics and careers, the series introduces entirely new subplots—most notably, Steven's unexpected car accident. After rekindling a secret romance with Taylor, Steven gets into a heated argument with her and is T-boned by another vehicle. He falls into a medically induced coma but survives, using the incident as a wake-up call to rethink his priorities. He ends things with Taylor, unaware she was about to propose giving their relationship another try. Jeremiah's character arc also takes a dramatic turn. Unlike the novel, which included a single act of infidelity, the series reveals that he cheated on Belly twice. Despite this, Jeremiah proposes to her shortly after, and Belly surprisingly agrees—raising questions about whether their relationship can survive. With creator Jenny Han hinting that the finale may diverge from the book's ending, fans are left wondering not only who Belly ends up with—but how far the show is willing to rewrite its source material.

Taylor and Belly's brother, Steven, have broken up but are still going the friends with benefits route while Belly and Jeremiah are fully in love, three years in. Jere finds out he's missing a few credits, which delays his graduation and upsets his dad, who has to spend another $20,000 in tuition. Meanwhile, Conrad is crushing it as he's accepted into Stanford's prestigious medical program with his new friend, Agnes. He reflects on his romance with Belly, while she's on the fence about spending another semester at Finch with Jere or studying abroad in Paris. At the end of the episode, she finds out that Jeremiah cheated on her with one of Taylor's sorority sisters, Lacie. Belly is down bad after learning that Jeremiah cheated on her with Lacie in Cabo. Like, so down bad that she won't even talk to her best friend, Taylor, who happens to be Lacie's sorority sister. (There are also some holiday-themed flashbacks between Belly and Conrad, hence the episode's title and Christmas music thrown in here.) As Belly changes her mind about studying abroad in Paris, Taylor gets into an argument with Steven that leads to him getting in a nearly fatal car crash. Jeremiah shows up for Belly before her parents can make it from their conference, and Conrad helps from his medical internship at Stanford. While Conrad loses the opportunity because of a mistake in the lab, Jeremiah and Belly patch things up as he proposes to her outside the hospital. Ofc, we'll update this playlist with more tracks featured in the show as new episodes drop every Wednesday. In the meantime, you can play all the songs riiiight here:

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' returns with a storm

Season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty picks up not with soft waves and Cousins Beach sunsets, but with real-world drama and a hefty dose of emotional whiplash. Following a 4-year time jump, Belly is now in her junior year at Finch College, studying sports psychology after a volleyball injury rerouted her plans. Jeremiah is still in her life, still charming, still smiling through the cracks. Yes, Conrad still exists, though he's now across the country at Stanford, coupled with a perfectly nice girl named Agnes and pretending not to be haunted by everything he never said. Belly and Jeremiah's relationship is steady, at least on the surface. They live in the same college town, share late-night walks, and talk about the future like it's already decided. But things unravel fast when Jeremiah finds out he won't be graduating thanks to a few overlooked core classes and Belly gets accepted into a semester abroad in Paris. Then, during a party, she overhears a conversation that flips everything on its head. Turns out, during spring break in Cabo, Jeremiah had been involved with someone else. Cue the Friends-esque fallout. Jeremiah insists they were on a break. Belly insists they were not. And just when it seems like things couldn't get any messier, Steven - Belly's brother and one of the show's emotional anchors - gets into a serious car accident. While Jeremiah and Belly are still reeling from the chaos of the past few days, he suddenly blurts out, without warning or buildup, that he wants to marry her. And Belly… says yes. Fans react For those who have read the books, none of this comes as a surprise. Still, seeing it unfold on screen did not make it any less cringe. Twitter and TikTok lit up with reactions that ranged from anger at Jeremiah for what many are calling emotional manipulation, to frustration at Belly for forgiving him so quickly. One X user wrote, 'Jeremiah cheated on Belly twice. Then proposed with no ring. While her brother is in a hospital bed. After a car crash. At a Benson Boone concert. And I am supposed to ship them?" Another wrote, 'Any moment of Jeremiah and Belly together on the screen annoys me so much.' Meanwhile, Team Conrad remains alive and well. Fans pointed out that this chaotic engagement only brings us closer to the inevitable Belly-Conrad reunion. One user on X made a hilarious play on the title, 'The Summer I Defended Conrad Fisher like my life depends on it.' This premiere certainly didn't hold back - and with more episodes on the way, it's clear this final season is going to test loyalties, patience, and maybe even the definition of what love looks like at twenty-one. One thing's for sure: Cousins may be gone, but the drama is just getting started.
