OPPO and OnePlus may bring built-in magnetic wireless charging to upcoming mobile phones: Report
OPPO and OnePlus are preparing to introduce magnetic wireless charging technology in their upcoming smartphones. While both brands currently support wireless charging with power outputs up to 50W, they have relied on traditional Qi wireless charging standards rather than the newer Qi2 standard, which supports magnetic attachment similar to Apple's MagSafe system. Currently, OPPO and OnePlus use separate back covers embedded with magnets to enable magnetic wireless charging on models like the OPPO Find X8 series and the OnePlus 13. These cases allow wireless chargers and compatible accessories to attach securely to the phone's rear surface. Without the magnetic cases, the phones themselves do not have magnets, so accessories cannot attach directly. A recent report from the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo reveals that OPPO's parent company plans to build true magnetic wireless charging into future phones. This integration will embed magnetic components beneath the rear panel of the devices, similar to Apple's approach but designed differently to avoid patent issues. The magnetic feature will help keep accessories such as wireless power banks, wallets, car holders, and pop sockets securely attached during use. At this time, it is unclear if the new magnetic wireless charging system will support the Qi2 standard. OPPO and OnePlus have not shared official details on this aspect. The current solution using magnetic coils in back covers is available for phones including the OPPO Find X8, Find X8 Pro, OnePlus 13R, and OnePlus 13. For example, OnePlus offers a Standstone bumper case with magnets that hold compatible wireless power banks and accessories like the 50W AIRVOOC magnetic charger and the 27W Freezing Point magnetic cooler. However, when the magnetic back cover is removed, these accessories cannot attach directly to the phone. Although Digital Chat Station has not confirmed which specific models will feature built-in magnetic wireless charging, the technology is expected to debut in flagship devices. The OPPO Find X9 series, likely including models such as Find X9, Find X9 Plus, Find X9 Pro, and Find X9 Ultra, may receive this upgrade. For OnePlus, the upcoming OnePlus 15 is a strong candidate to introduce this feature.

OPPO Find X9 series tipped to feature flat displays and Dimensity 9500 chip
The OPPO Find X9 series is expected to debut in China this fall — probably in October, if the company follows the Find X8 launch timeline from last year. However, that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from churning out interesting details about the next-generation devices, especially one related to the phone's front profile. According to popular tipster Digital Chat Station, two of the upcoming phones in the series will feature flat displays with screen sizes of 6.59 inches and 6.78 inches, respectively. These devices are tipped to be the standard X9 and X9 Pro. For context, with the Find X8 series, only the standard X8 came with a flat display, while the X8 Pro was one of the first phones to feature the quad-curved display interesting titbit from the leak is the suggestion that OPPO could be solely relying on flat panels across the entire Find X9 lineup. So, even the X9 Ultra model, which is expected to succeed the X8 Ultra, could come with a flat panel — just like the standard and Pro variants. On top of this, there's a rumour of a compact 6.3-inch device as well. This could possibly be called the OPPO Find X9s, as the company already offers a 6.3-inch compact phone in the Find X8 series, namely, the OPPO Find X8s. Of course, we'll get to know more about these phones in the coming from the design rumours, as you must have figured out, the Find X9 series is expected to include four devices — the 6.3-inch model, the X9 with a 6.59-inch display, the X9 Pro with a 6.78-inch display, and the X9 Ultra, likely with a 6.82-inch display, succeeding the X8 Ultra. The phones are set to receive a substantial hardware upgrade as well. Rumours suggest the Find X9 series could be powered by the next-generation MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip — said to be built on TSMC's 3nm advanced N3P process. This shouldn't come as a surprise, as three phones in the Find X8 series — X8, X8 Pro and X8s — are powered by the Dimensity 9400 series chipsets. However, it will be interesting to see whether the Ultra model also comes with the Dimensity 9500 chip or uses the second-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite When it comes to the launch timeline, this is where things get interesting. You see, with the Find X8 series, we witnessed a scattered launch. While the X8 and X8 Pro were initially launched in China last October and later released worldwide (including India) in November, the X8 Ultra and the X8s (alongside the X8 Plus) were unveiled in April — just a couple of months ago. On top of this, OPPO isn't even selling the Find X8 Ultra and Find X8s in that said, while the entire Find X9 series looks quite promising, it will be interesting to see whether OPPO decides to launch all the phones together or go for a scattered release like the X8 series. Also, which of the phones make their way to India remains to be tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on the OPPO Find X9 series.
