Door open for 'athletically outstanding' Curtis & fellow academy stars
Findlay Curtis admits he was left "speechless" after scoring his first goal for Rangers in Sunday's pre-season friendly against Club Brugge at Ibrox, while Russell Martin assures he will give youngsters a Curtis, 18, was the only player to last the 90 minutes during Martin's first game in charge and his efforts were rewarded with a neat equaliser for the after Mohamed Diomande pulled one back for Rangers, who were two goals down at half-time, Nedim Bajrami slipped in Curtis, who in turn coolly slotted home."I'm absolutely buzzing," he told club media. "I'm just glad to see it go in the back of the net."I did expect [the pass] actually. We've been working on that the full week. We've been trying to get players in and then just playing it into the next person, he played it into me and I put it in the back of the net. "The manager's just been telling me to do what I normally do, bring energy, and I can't thank him enough."Martin heaped praised on Curtis in his post-match press conference and insisted the door is open for him and his fellow academy graduates to play their way into his plans for the coming season."I'm really pleased for Findlay, he's athletically outstanding and so willing," the head coach said. "They all are, they have good character and they're desperate to play here."They're good young men with really good habits and that's testament to the academy. They come in with real fresh energy and are willing to try whatever we're asking them to do."One of the reasons we were brought here is to try and win, but also to develop some players for this club and pull up some players from the academy and give them opportunities."I don't want to put too much pressure on them, but they've been great. "How much involvement they have over the season, I don't know. It will depend on what the squad looks like when the transfer window shuts, for sure, but at the minute they're making a real impact with the group and that's all you can ask."

That was last season's delayed final and they met again tonight at Firhill. It proved a dramatic affair, with nothing to separate the sides after an entertaining 1-1 draw at Partick Thistle's home. First team star Neraysho Kasanwirjo made a shock return from injury to start the game and he was the surprise first goalscorer who gave the Gers a first half lead. But Rhys Dargie levelled things up right before the half-time whistle. The game went all the way to penalties, with Hoops kid Lewis Dobbie missing the decisive kick to confirm Rangers as the winners. But it was a win that came at a huge cost for Stevie Smith's kids - and one too for senior team gaffer Barry Ferguson. He was watching on alongside his coaching staff, with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers also in attendance. While things started on a positive note on the injury front with Kasanwirjo's return to action, the Gers lost THREE players during the game. It led to a staggering SIXTEEN minutes of added time at the end of the game. St Mirren supremo Jim Gillespie reveals why he turned down chance to be Rangers chief executive Calum Adamson was forced off early in the second-half before Cameron Scott received lengthy treatment after suffering a head injury. Medics carefully treated Scott for 12 minutes before he was stretchered-off. The injury woe wasn't done there for Rangers. Findlay Curtis captained the Gers kids at Firhill but he didn't see the game out either. He suffered what appeared to be a thigh injury and had to be replaced on the 86th minute. Curtis, 18, has enjoyed a first team breakthrough this season and will have no doubt been hoping to make an impact in the final four games of the campaign. The winger has made five first team appearances for the Gers, including an appearance at Old Trafford in the Europa League against Man Utd. Curtis also recently made his first Scottish Premiership start in the Gers' 2-2 draw against Aberdeen at Pittodrie earlier this month. But now, fans are fearing his season is OVER. That's because Curtis was spotted back on the pitch on crutches. While his teammates celebrated their trophy success, Curtis looked somewhat downbeat. The crutches also meant he was cruelly denied the chance to lift the trophy aloft despite being the captain. On a more positive note, Kasanwirjo managed to play the first 45 minutes of the game. This was the Dutch defender's first action since suffering a devastating knee injury on international duty with the Netherlands under-21s back in November. Kasanwirjo makes triumphant Rangers return as gruelling Celtic battle sees another fringe star leave on crutches
Neraysho Kasanwirjo made his return to Rangers action – and he was among the goals as the B-team beat Celtic on penalties to lift the Glasgow Cup. But the Firhill battle was a gruelling one that left Gers skipper Findlay Curtis on crutches by full-time, while youngster Cameron Scott was left on the deck for TWELVE minutes after a worrying head-knock. The 1-1 draw went the distance in every way imaginable and in the end it was a sudden-death miss from Celtic 's Jude Bonnar that decided it and ensured Rangers retained the trophy. It Kasanwirjo of all people who burst a gut to get into the Celtic box and hammer home the opening goal – sparking emotional scenes as he returned to action after five months out. But Celtic responded and lively winger Rhys Dargie curled in an equaliser with virtually the last kick of the first half. The second half wasn't a classic and boss Stevie Smith would have watched it through his fingers. He lost four players to injuries including captain and first-team fringe man Findlay Curtis was forced off and left on crutches as he went out to receive his winners' medal. That would have been a concern for Barry Ferguson too, who watched from the stands alongside Brendan Rodgers as Curtis, a fringe player for him this season, needed crutches to return to the pitch at full-time. The big worry was Cameron Scott who needed a stretcher after spending 12 minutes receiving treatment on the pitch for an apparent head knock. But Rangers rallied and did it for their fallen – eventually. It was Celtic who went closer to winning it in 90 with the impressive Jude Bonnar firing wide, and even the penalties needed sudden death to separate the sides. The penalty writing was on the wall for Celtic who missed their first spot-kick through usually prolific goalscorer Daniel Cummings. But he wasn't immediately punished with Paul Nsio also missing to take it to sudden death. In the end though Dobbie's miss, after six spot-kicks each, sealed the trophy for Rangers who won it for the 60th time in their history. It means the Ibrox side retain it after edging a 3-2 thriller in last season's delayed final which only took place in December.

Returning Rangers star scores for 'B' team vs Celtic
The on-loan defender was joined by fellow first-team squad member Findlay Curtis in Steven Smith's starting XI for the showpiece clash. And while goalscoring isn't typically part of the Dutchman's game, it was Kasanwirjo who broke the deadlock after 33 minutes to put Rangers ahead. The 23-year-old found himself in an advanced position and pounced on a loose ball, holding off Celtic captain Mitchell Robertson before slotting a composed finish beyond Hoops goalkeeper Marcus Gill. Celtic, however, responded on the stroke of half-time through Rhys Dargie, who levelled the score at 1-1 following some excellent build-up play from Jude Bonnar. Kasanwirjo's evening ended at the break, with the versatile full-back withdrawn at half-time after completing his planned minutes on return. More to follow...
