Malaysia targets RM100m trade potential from New Zealand food expo

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is expected to generate a trade potential of RM100 million over the next three years following the participation of the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) in the Fine Food New Zealand 2025 (FFNZ25) in Auckland. The Malaysian Agriculture Representative Office in Sydney, in a statement, said 156 business inquiries with an immediate trade potential of RM34.36 million were also recorded at the three-day trade event, which began on June 29. 'This reflects the overwhelming response from local visitors, with various activities and food sampling sessions attracting strong interest,' the statement said. It added that KPKM's debut participation in FFNZ25 revealed that Malaysian agrofood products are in high demand in the New Zealand market due to their premium quality, unique taste and compatibility with local preferences. 'Therefore, KPKM is committed to supporting local entrepreneurs in exploring international markets, particularly in New Zealand, thus contributing to the nation's economic growth,' the statement read. The statement further said that the festival, held at the Auckland Showgrounds, featured eight Malaysian companies showcasing 125 local products to the New Zealand market. 'Among the products showcased were durian-based products, Sarawak layer cakes, frozen fish and pineapple-based products. At the same time, the Perak state government also brought along four entrepreneurs to participate in FFNZ25,' it said. The Malaysian pavilion, themed Taste of Malaysia, was officially opened by Malaysian High Commissioner to New Zealand Mazita Marzuki. The statement also noted that trade relations between Malaysia and New Zealand remain strong and dynamic, supported by both countries' involvement in four Free Trade Agreements. 'Besides promoting local food products, the Malaysian pavilion also highlighted Visit Malaysia Year 2026,' the statement concluded. - Bernama

MIRI (July 3): Malaysia continues to make strides in exploring international markets as eight local companies participated in Fine Food New Zealand 2025, the largest biennial food trade exhibition in the Oceania region, held in Auckland from June 29 to July 1. Among the participants was IANA Corporation Sdn Bhd, the sole representative from Sarawak, which showcased gluten-free cookies made from sago flour ― a product jointly formulated with CRAUN Research Sdn Bhd. Sharing his experience, IANA Corporation Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Hafidz Rohani said Malaysia's involvement in the event opened up new opportunities for collaboration with local importers and distributors, particularly in the health-based and food innovation segments. Hafidz, who also serves as chairman of the Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Miri, said the Malaysian exhibitors represented a wide spectrum of the food industry, including durian and pineapple products, ready-to-eat sambal, canned beverages, health items, fisheries products, and gluten-free foods. All participants were part of the Malaysian delegation under Pavilion Malaysia, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA). Oceania, with a population exceeding 50 million people and a growing ASEAN community, presents strong potential for Malaysian companies to establish a foothold in the regional market. This sentiment was echoed by Malaysia's High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mazita Marzuki, during the opening of Pavilion Malaysia at the exhibition. The Malaysia–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (MNZFTA), in force since 2010, has further facilitated the entry of Malaysian products into the New Zealand market. Hafidz said that the participation reflected the continued commitment of government agencies and industry players to expand the global reach of Malaysian products through high-impact trade platforms. The launch event was also attended by FAMA director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri and Perak State Executive Councillor for Women's Development, Family, Community Welfare, Entrepreneurs, and Cooperatives, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed. craun research Fine Food New Zealand 2025 gluten-free sago cookies

Perak targets 20 entrepreneurs to expand market abroad

TELUK INTAN: Perak aims to target 20 entrepreneurs in the state to expand their market by showcasing local products abroad throughout this year. State Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, said her party, in collaboration with the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat (STeP), is always trying to bring entrepreneurs to participate in various expos and exhibitions abroad. She said that among the exhibitions or trade expos that Perak entrepreneurs will be participating in are the 'Brunei Consumer Fair 2025', 'World Expo Osaka 2025' and 'Fine Food New Zealand 2025', which will take place this month 'I always emphasise to the agencies involved to jointly help entrepreneurs or companies that have the potential to be taken abroad (promote their products) by solving the problems (constraints) they face. 'The state government is indeed very supportive of Perak entrepreneurs who dare to explore the global market which actually provides wider and larger opportunities and space and not just being too dependent on the domestic market,' she said. She told reporters after officiating the release of a container of cordial products from Syarikat Ameen Products Sdn Bhd to Mali, Africa, at its factory in the Light Industry Park here today. Meanwhile, Salbiah said one of the challenges entrepreneurs face in expanding their businesses or increasing product capacity is the lack of industrial parks in several districts of the state. 'When some of our entrepreneurs want to expand their products or markets, they face constraints in terms of size to expand their products. 'So, the state government sees the need (to develop industrial parks) by identifying suitable areas,' she said.
