Gardaí on alert as suspected gunman in Gary Carey murder freed from prison
Criminal parties at dance music event after his release from jail The scene of the shooting and (inset) Gary 'The Canary' Carey Gardaí are closely monitoring the activities of a volatile criminal who is the suspected gunman in the murder of gangland figure Gary 'The Canary' Carey three years ago. The dangerous Dublin criminal who has almost 150 criminal convictions was recently released from jail and celebrated by attending a dance music event with friends at the weekend. His latest sentence was for his role in a mob attack on unarmed gardaí. The burly gangster, who is considered to be one of Ireland's most violent criminals, spent over two years in jail after this conviction. The suspected gunman was one of five people - two males and three females, including a woman who was well known to Carey – who have been arrested by detectives investigating the brutal shooting. One of the women is suspected of leaking details of his movements to the gang who killed him. In the suspected gunman's case, he was arrested by gardaí in 2023 in Mountjoy Prison. A file has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who is expected to make a decision on the case in the coming months. Sources say that there is 'serious concern' for local gardaí that the west Dublin criminal is now back on the streets as he has been involved in serious violent crime since he was a juvenile. His string of previous convictions include robbery, aggravated burglary and road traffic offences. He is strongly linked to veteran gang boss Derek 'Dee Dee' O'Driscoll whose associates are suspected of ordering the murder of notorious criminal Carey who died six weeks after being shot multiple times in an underground car park in Kilmainham, south Dublin. Father-of-three Carey (41) was discovered in a serious condition in the underground car park of the Hilton Hotel by staff before being rushed to hospital on June 24, 2022. He was told 'the argument was now over and he was safe to come home' Carey died from his injuries at St James's Hospital on August 5 that year and the case has been the subject of an investigation by Kilmainham gardaí. A line of inquiry in the investigation is that Carey, who had been hiding out in Spain, was lured back to Dublin when a senior gangster he had been in dispute with over money and drugs turf told him 'the argument was now over and he was safe to come home', according to sources. However, just hours after coming back home, he was the victim of a fatal shooting which was the third time Carey was shot within a 15-month period. In March 2021, Carey escaped serious injury when a bullet grazed his head in an incident in Ballyfermot, west Dublin. Eight months later, 'The Canary' who was from Islandbridge, Dublin, was lucky to survive after he was shot outside a house in Ballyfermot. Last month, Finglas criminal Patrick 'Fishy' Fitzgerald was jailed for seven years on organised crime charges for providing getaway cars for the gang who unsuccessfully attempted to murder Carey at Ballyfermot Parade on November 17, 2021. On that occasion, Carey sustained two gunshot wounds to his torso when his car was blocked in. Carey fled from the vehicle, ran back through the house and climbed over a wall in the rear garden of another property where he remained until gardaí and ambulance crews arrived. Mrs Brown's Boys returns for new season and Brendan O'Carroll reveals what's next in store for Agnes Brown
Agnes and the Finglas gang return for more laughs, chaos and heartfelt moments in a brand-new season of Mrs Brown's Boys. With her usual blend of no-nonsense wisdom and razor-sharp wit, Agnes Brown (Brendan O'Carroll) continues to meddle in the lives of her nearest and dearest – with hilarious consequences! In these brand-new episodes the Brown family navigate fresh misadventures, unexpected guests, and the chaos that only Agnes can create. Watch Mrs Brown's Boys Series 5 on BBC iPlayer and add to your Watchlist CK Interview With Brendan O'Carroll (Agnes Brown) What does the new series have in store for Agnes? What can viewers look forward to? The mini-series focuses on the continuing life in the Brown family and surrounding households in Finglas. Cathy gets involved with a podcast producer, which obviously is commandeered by Agnes, Winnie and Birdy. Granddad decides that he wants to leave the family home for a care home, Agnes of course packs his bags for him. Winnie's husband's car, which has been lying up for ten years, is pressed into action by Winnie, leading to a disastrous driving test which ends with a huge shock for the Brown family. In Foley's lounge bar, Father Damien stages his annual Finglas talent show, with some hilarious entries. All capped off with a wonderfully hilarious "trip" as Agnes is confined to a mobile chair. How do you approach writing for the show? Did you do so differently for this series than you do for the specials? The writing of the mini-series is much more relaxing for myself and Paddy Houlihan, who joins me as a writer. With the Christmas Specials, I have to keep it within the Christmas period (including the Christmas trees which have emerged as their own event), unlike the specials we can focus on anything, within reason. How did the ideas for the episodes this series come about? The ideas for these episodes are no different from the previous 53 episodes. Believe it or not most of the story lines are based on true events that either happened to my family or have been told to me by people about their families. Everybody has a story, and it's quite common for someone in a family to say in the middle of a family disaster, "This is like an episode of Mrs. Brown's Boys". Did you have a favourite moment filming this series? Oh yeah, Having Agnes on that mobility scooter was such fun. She goes nuts, with hilarious consequences. Also in the "Talent Show" episode I love the interaction between Agnes and Granddad. Look, in every episode there is something that stands out for me, I love being Agnes Brown and I love her family, and her neighbours like Winnie and Birdy. If you could play any other role in Mrs Brown's Boys what would it be? This is a hard one. I love being Agnes. I'm not lying when I say... I could not play any of the characters better than the actors who play them now. In particular, the likes of Cathy or Mark, without them the gags don't work. What does filming the show in front of a studio audience bring to it? Filming in front of a live audience is essential to the show. So many times, at the end of rehearsals for a particular episode, our Director, Ben Kellett will say "All this needs now is the audience" and he is so right. They follow every move, every line and add so much to our performances. We would be lost without them. What's the secret to the enduring success of the show? I honestly don't know the secret to the enduring success of Mrs. Brown's Boys, I write and perform what I think is funny and just hope that somebody somewhere watching gets a laugh out of it. That's it, and, although I sometimes try to include a "family" message along the way, essentially it's just a bunch of actors trying to make you laugh. Follow for more

Mrs Browns Boys returning to the BBC after controversy
The fifth series of the comedy programme is now only weeks away and is returning despite the creator apologising for a racial slur. Teasing the new show, the corporation said: "Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! "Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!" According to The Sun, the BBC's head of comedy, Jon Petrie, added: "Brendan has created an iconic comedy character in Agnes Brown. "Mrs. Brown's Boys is a BAFTA-winning comedy show and one of the BBC's most-watched comedies ever. I'm proud to have it in the BBC Comedy stable." Mrs Brown's Boys will return to UK telly on Friday, August 1 at 9:30pm on BBC One. BBC viewers dub Mrs Brown's Boys 'utter garbage' and 'worst thing' they have ever seen Despite this popularity, many are not so keen on the show, with one person penning: "The worst show I've ever seen. It's ghastly, and thankfully, no one I know likes it, because if they did, then I'd disown them. UTTER GARBAGE." Another said: "Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever watched in my life. "For something that is labelled as a comedy, it is incredibly unfunny. "The entire premise of this show is woefully outdated, predictable, cringe inducing, with an annoyingly overactive audience. "Of all genres, comedy is probably the most diverse in terms of its audience reception, but if 1920s-style slapstick is your jam, this will probably tick a box for you." However, with a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDb, most enjoy the programme. Recommended Reading: One person wrote: "Some of the funniest slapstick I have seen in years. The live audience and the accidentals (on-stage flubs) only serve to make what is already hilariously funny, even funnier." Another added: "Love this series. I can't stop watching it. Terrific cast, fantastic humour. I never want the show to end. So much craziness in the world today, so much to worry about, but this show takes you away from it. Brilliant, Mr. O'Carroll." A third fan said: "So glad I stumbled upon this show through a friend. It has to be the funniest show I've ever seen!"
