About 5,000 without power in Cuyahoga County
**Related Video Above: Some Cleveland buildings remained closed Wednesday with power outages CLEVELAND (WJW) — After storms rolled through Northeast Ohio, thousands of FirstEnergy customers are still without power Friday night in Cuyahoga County. It is not clear when power is expected to be fully restored in the area after it went out around 12:30 p.m. At the height of the outages, 12,000 customers were without electricity. As of 9:45 p.m., about 5,000 customers still have no power. You can find the latest power outages right here. About 400 customers were also without power in Lake and Huron counties and 700 in Trumbull County at 5:45 p.m. See weather maps and radar right here The outages come as muggy heat continues to blanket the region. WATCH: Funnel cloud spotted near Cleveland
CLEVELAND (WJW) — What a sight! Multiple FOX 8 viewers sent us videos of storm clouds near Cleveland while a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect Friday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. Find the latest weather alerts right here. FOX 8 meteorologists have determined some appear to show funnel clouds. Look at what Timothy Conrad of Conneaut saw just east of Playhouse Square: Lee Ann Mullen was on I-90 when she spotted the following Friday afternoon: FOX 8 viewer Marvin Guzman caught sight of an impressive road from his vantage point on Lakeshore Boulevard in Cleveland. The severe weather has since passed the area for the afternoon, but at least 12,000 FirstEnergy customers were without power for a time. The National Weather Service confirmed to FOX 8 that 'the general environment/situation may have supported a brief, non-supercell spinup (i.e. a landspout) in that area,' but did not confirm a tornado. FirstEnergy Corporation's FE ongoing investments should increase grid reliability and enable it to serve customers efficiently. The company's initiative to further strengthen transmission and distribution operations should boost its performance. With planned investments of $28 billion between 2025 and 2029, FE is set to install advanced equipment and technologies that will strengthen and modernize its transmission and distribution April 2025, JCP&L got approval for its EnergizeNJ infrastructure investment program. The Philadelphia electric utility provider PECO said Monday it is working to restore power for almost 6,000 homes, with some still affected by straight line winds of up to 70 mph that whipped through the area Thursday, ABC reports. ConEdison reported over 14,000 customers facing full or partial power outages Monday afternoon, with the New York City utility provider warning parts of Queens to conserve energy after reducing voltage in the area by 8% while crews repair equipment 'to maintain reliability.' Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in 32 counties, including the most affected areas like Queens, in a statewide alert Sunday ahead of severe thunderstorms and forecasted extreme heat. Outages also affected conEdison customers in Brooklyn and Staten Island, with most problems attributed to 'weather-related' outages, according to the company's live outage map. The company also asked customers to limit 'unnecessary use of air conditioning' and refrain from charging electric vehicles until repairs have been completed. City officials in Akron, Ohio, told WKYC Studios 'rolling blackouts' may occur in the impacted area, which will rotate the outages every 90 minutes for up to 12 hours. Residents in the Philadelphia area told ABC Thursday's severe storms were 'reminiscent of Hurricane Sandy,' as outages linger due to extreme heat. Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota faced temperatures of up to 100 degrees Saturday, with the heat spreading eastward to major cities like New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., on Monday. Around 148 million people were under heat alerts Monday across the Midwest and about 75 million people in nearly a dozen urban areas like Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Baltimore were under alerts, according to NBC News—with temperatures above 100 expected in some major cities.
