Hibs start pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against MSV Duisburg
Hibs started their pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against MSV Duisburg in the Netherlands. Chances were few and far between in the high temperatures. Head coach David Gray used the opportunity as a good chance to get minutes into the legs of several players, with the likes of Jamie McGrath, Rafael Sallinger (pictured) making their first appearances for the Club – whilst Elie Youan also returned after missing a large part of the 2024/25 campaign through injury. Academy youngsters, Dean Cleland, Lewis Gillie, Joseph McGrath, Logan Jimenez and Rory Whittaker all got important match minutes at First Team level. The Hibees started the match with real intensity and purpose to their play. There were good early touches from Lewis Gillie, Dean Cleland and Jacob MacIntyre who all look at ease stepping into the First Team. The first real chance of the game fell to Cleland after a flowing counter-attacking move. MacIntyre linked up well with Chris Cadden, before Josh Campbell picked out Youan who pulled it back to Cleland, and his curling effort was tipped over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. The German side settled and began to work their way back into the game, but did very little to trouble Raphael Sallinger in the opening 22 minutes before both teams paused for a water break due to the high temperatures in Wissel, Gelderland. Duisburg best chance fell to striker, Tim Heike. But he dragged his shot wide of the far post. Gray made two changes at the break, with Jordan Smith replacing Sallinger in goal and Jamie McGrath making his first appearance for the Club coming on for Campbell in the middle of the pitch. Nicky Cadden went close to breaking the deadlock, but his whipped in free-kick evaded everyone in the penalty area . At the other end Smith was called into action moments later – making a smart stop at his near post from Steffen Meuer. On the hour mark, Gray continued to freshen things up with Joseph McGrath, Rory Whittaker, Logan Jimenez, Kanayo Megwa and Alasana Manneh all introduced to the action. Chris Cadden, Nicky Cadden, Youan, Marvin Ekpiteta and Dylan Levitt were the players to make way. O'Hora had an effort cleared off the line from a set-piece before Smith made a brilliant one-handed save, diving to his right to deny a long-range shot from Bookjans. Rangers hero Gennaro Gattuso appointed Italy manager
The Ibrox hero has taken on the Azzuri post days after leaving his role as Hajduk Split boss. He left the Croatian club after agreeing to terminate his contract. Gattuso, who won the World Cup with Italy, replaces Luciano Spalletti as the national team manager. Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre celebrated at Tennis Black List awards
Barakat Oyinlomo Quadre has just finished her junior year at Florida International University in Miami, Florida and has had a sparkling college career this far, racking up accolades such as Freshman of the Year, multiple Conference Player of the Year and First Team awards and leading her team to the conference title all 3 of her years in college so far. For her achievements, the Lekki native has been recognised with the College Player award at this year's edition of the Tennis Black List awards, presented in association with Dante Talent and held during the HSBC Championships at The Queen's Club, London on the 11th of June, supported by the LTA. She is one of two names to receive the College Player award, the other being South African Khololwam 'Kholo' Montsi. Tennis Black List is the global celebration of Black and mixed black excellence across the game — spotlighting the unsung, the visionary and the next generation of changemakers. Taking place in the run up to The Championships at Wimbledon, the Tennis Black List recognises the contributions of individuals and organisations from grassroots level up to the professional game in Britain and internationally. It follows the example set by the successful and respected Football Black List, created by Leon Mann MBE and Rodney Hinds, and Rugby Black List which have demonstrated the power that celebrating black excellence can achieve in sport. Alabama track and field star wins outdoor national championship After an impressive showing at the 2025 NCAA outdoor track and field championships, Alabama Crimson Tide star Samuel Ogazi has now been officially crowned a national champion. Taking place Friday night at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, Ogazi won a national championship in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 44.84 seconds. The second place time was 45.53 seconds, nearly a full second behind Ogazi, making the Alabama star the only runner to finish with a sub-45 second time. A year ago, Ogazi was the national runner-up in the 400-meter, while also finishing as a First Team All-American. Ogazi is the Alabama all-time record in the outdoor 400-meter as well with a time of 44.41 seconds. Ogazi, an Olympian from Nigeria, also won the outdoor SEC championship earlier this season in the 400-meter.
