Iconic Pete's Eats in Llanberis to reopen this weekend and legendary item is staying on the menu

A legendary North Wales cafe that served up 'pints of tea' will reopen today after a massive revamp. Pete's Eats in Llanberis was started up by Pete and Vicky Norton in 1978. Its position close to the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) meant it was an absolute favourite with hikers and was renowned for its portion sizes. The place had been described as 'one of the most famous mountaineering hangouts in Britain' and even has its own Wikipedia page. Pete owned the cafe until 2018 before it was sold to Toby Harris. His father, Al Harris, helped set up the cafe back in 1978. It then went back on the market in March 2022. The cafe closed that winter and then proposals were submitted to Cyngor Gwynedd to revamp the place. Businessman Nick Pritchard made the application with BR Architecture the agent. It was approved and the site has been transformed in recent months. After some soft launch test events the site will open to the public from today. Nick said: "Llanberis is one of the most beautiful places in the world and it's a proud moment to see such an iconic building come back to life creating jobs for the local economy and a vibrant hub for the village." On social media, Pete's Eats said: "We are so excited to announce that we'll be opening our doors to the public this Saturday. Our brand new website is now live and taking bookings. "A huge thank you to everyone who's played a part in getting us ready to open - we couldn't have done it without you. We can't wait to welcome you in and celebrate together - see you soon." It has a new menu but traditionalists will be pleased to see that a 'pint of tea' is still available for a bargain £2.25. It has a breakfast and brunch menu and a lunch and evening selection, ranging from burgers and pizzas to pork belly, seabass and Five Bean Cassoulet.
