Blumhouse Acquires 50% Rights to "SAW"
Yara Sameh Blumhouse, the maker of horror hits like 'Insidious' and 'Five Nights at Freddy's,' has acquired the rights to all future 'Saw' movies, shows, and other properties featuring the murderous Jigsaw. The company paid an undisclosed amount for the part of the franchise currently owned by producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg. In statements, Koules said it felt like 'the right time to pass the baton,' while Burg said he wanted to 'move on and tell new stories.' Lionsgate, which has released all 10 films in the series to the tune of more than $1 billion at the global box office, will continue to be a partner in the property. It will also owned its existing 50% ownership stake in and distribution of future installments. With the deal, the franchise makes its way back to James Wan, who directed the original, blood-soaked 'Saw' in 2004. Wan's Atomic Monster label merged with Blumhouse in 2024. The company's list of films includes 'Get Out,' 'The Purge,' 'M3GAN' and 'Annabelle.' Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse, said that 'Saw' had 'defined a generation of horror.' 'Its cultural impact continues to grow, making this a strategic investment in one of the most recognizable and successful genre properties of the last two decades,' Blum added. The Blumhouse CEO said that Wan and Leigh Whannell, writer of the first film, will be brought 'back in the fold' and will help guide the future of the franchise. ''Saw' holds a special place in my heart,' Wan said, adding, 'coming back to this world with a fresh perspective is both thrilling and deeply personal. For me, this will mark a significant creative return to the 'Saw' franchise for the first time since the early days, and I'm very much looking forward to embracing the original spirit whilst pushing the legacy forward in bold, unexpected ways.' CAA Evolution served as sole financial advisor in the transaction. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Blumhouse Buys Rights to 'Saw' Franchise
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Blumhouse already boasts its share of horror franchises like "Insidious" and "Five Nights at Freddy's", and now it will be adding "Saw" to its arsenal of scares. The company has acquired rights to all future "Saw" films, according to Variety. Read More: Jeremy Allen White Transforms Into Bruce Springsteen in Biopic First Look We don't know much Blumhouse paid for the rights, but we know they acquired them from producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg. Lionsgate will continue to have a 50% stake in the franchise. Still from "Saw". Still from "Saw". Lionsgate Fans may be enthused to hear the news, considering it means Blumhouse and Lionsgate have the motivation to release more installments. News broke in March that "Saw XI" had been removed from Lionsgate's list of upcoming releases, to be replaced with "The Strangers: Chapter 2". There was no word on exactly why "Saw XI" was canceled, but co-writer Patrick Melton told The Hollywood Reporter that if the film wasn't made, it would have nothing to do with the creative side of things. "Saw XI may or may not be made, but we have a very timely story in it, and I hope it gets made just because of that," Melton said. He put the blame for the delays at the "managerial level." Blumhouse's acquisition of the "Saw" franchise could be seen to represent a homecoming of sorts. It brings the franchise back to James Wan who directed the first entry in the series. James Wan's Atomic Monster merged with Blumhouse in 2024. Blumhouse CEO James Blum said Wan and "Saw" writer Leigh Whannell will be "brought back in the fold" and guiding future installments. 'Saw' holds a special place in my heart," Wan told Variety. "Coming back to this world with a fresh perspective is both thrilling and deeply personal." "For me, this will mark a significant creative return to the 'Saw' franchise for the first time since the early days, and I'm very much looking forward to embracing the original spirit whilst pushing the legacy forward in bold, unexpected ways." If past success proves to be an indicator of the franchise's future, financially, Blumhouse is likely in for a windfall. All told, the ten "Saw" films have taken in over $1 billion at the global box office. Its genre-hopping nature means it offers something for everyone, as long as they're prepared to be frightened – and Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic is no exception. The latest instalment is set in Murray's Costume Manor, a creepy museum of horrors filled with spooky animatronics and shadowy corners hiding even darker secrets. The setting alone is enough to send shivers down your spine, but throw in a new animatronic band and puppet-like husks, and it's sure to scare the living daylights out of us, especially in the optional VR mode on both PS5 and Steam. 'Fallout' joins Universal Halloween Horror Nights 2025: See HHN prices, dates, details
'Fallout' joins Universal Halloween Horror Nights 2025: See HHN prices, dates, details Show Caption Hide Caption Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights tips for scaredy cats You don't have to like haunted houses to have fun at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights 2025 is shaping up to be one for the gamers. Just days after revealing that "Five Nights at Freddy's" is coming to this year's after-hours event on both coasts, Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort announced, 'For the first time ever, horror fans will step into the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Prime Video's 'Fallout.'" Like "Five Nights at Freddy's" and 2023's The Last of Us house, "Fallout" began as a popular video game franchise. Thursday's house announcement comes on the same day as HHN tickets going on sale for both Orlando and Hollywood. Here's everything we know so far about this year's Halloween Horror Nights. Universal's first 'Fallout' house This new house, like its namesake show and Bethesda Game Studios video game franchise before it, is set centuries after a devastating nuclear war ravages the landscape, mutates creatures and forces humans to live in underground vaults. 'The journey begins beneath the surface in Vault 33, where guests follow vault-dweller Lucy MacLean as she escapes a bloody massacre, only to discover an evil hidden secret,' according to Universal. 'From there, visitors venture to the surface, where they must dodge attacks from Scavengers and Raiders, desperate survivors who will do anything to remain alive, as well as mutated cockroaches known as RAD Roaches.' As fans travel through a three-dimensional Wasteland, they will meet familiar "Fallout" settings like Super Duper Mart, 'The Ghoul, an ageless bounty hunter who has endured radiation exposure for centuries,' and a squire named Maximus equipped with T-60 armor. 'Five Nights at Freddies' surprises It's not yet clear what Universal has planned for 'Five Nights at Freddies," only sharing that it's "coming in a whole new way' with 'more details coming soon.' First a video game and book series, then a 2023 Blumhouse and Universal Pictures film with a sequel due to premiere this December, "Five Nights at Freddy's" follows animatronics from an abandoned children's pizza restaurant that come to life and kill. Universal has featured several Blumhouse films in Halloween Horror Nights experiences in recent years. Start date of Halloween Horror Nights This year's Halloween Horror Nights will start a day earlier than last year, on both coasts. Orlando's event will be held on 48 nights: Aug. 29-31 Sept. 3-7, 10-14, 16, 17, 19-21, 24-28 Oct. 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, 29-31 Nov. 1, 2 Hollywood's Halloween Horror Nights will begin Sept. 4: Sept. 4-7, 11-14, 18-21, 25-28 Oct. 2-5, 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, 29-31 Nov. 1, 2 How much does it cost to go to Halloween Horror Nights? In a break from recent years, neither event is raising its starting ticket price this year. Single-night HHN tickets start at $82.99 for Orlando and $77 for Hollywood, the same as last year. Multi-night passes are also available. Halloween Horror Nights is a separately ticketed event that is not included with standard park admission. What does Halloween Horror Nights consist of? Halloween Horror Nights is best known for its immersive themed houses and open-air scare zones. Each year, a few themes span both coasts, though they may be executed differently. Last year's shared themes were A Quiet Place, Insidious: The Further, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines. Remaining house and scare-zone themes are location-specific. Orlando usually has more houses – 10 this year – and leans into more original content, while Hollywood tends to embrace more intellectual property. Hollywood is also the only place guests can experience the Terror Tram, an HHN-specific twist on the World-Famous Studio Tour. Both events offer live entertainment, themed food, and access to select park attractions with generally shorter wait times than during the day How scary is Universal Halloween Horror Nights? Scary is subjective. Some guests aren't phased at all. Others can barely stand to open their eyes. Most guests are somewhere in between, enjoying a good scare in a safe space. Don't you dare look scared: How to survive Universal's Halloween Horror Nights Can the actors touch you at Halloween Horror Nights? They're not supposed to touch you. They may accidentally brush against you in a crowded scare zone, but they won't reach out and touch you on purpose. By the same token, guests should never touch scareactors, which is what Universal calls HHN actors. What can you not wear to Halloween Horror Nights? Guests are not allowed to wear costumes or costume masks at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Studios Hollywood has its own costume policy but also bans costume masks. Does HHN have an age limit? No, but the event's webpage says it 'may be too intense for young children and is not recommended for children under the age of 13.' 'Fallout' Coming to Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors On June 1, Universal Studios caught everyone's attention when it announced that "Five Nights at Freddy's" will have a presence at Halloween Horror Nights this year "in a whole new way." Five Nights at Freddy's is coming in a whole new way to this year's Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights in both Hollywood and Orlando. More details coming soon. — Halloween Horror Nights (@HorrorNightsORL) June 2, 2025 Now, it looks like "Five Nights at Freddy's" won't be the only wildly popular video game franchise making its way to the iconic Halloween event. More Entertainment: Movies to Watch to Prepare for Universal Studios Epic Universe In a new announcement, it has been revealed that "Fallout" will officially have a house at Halloween Horror Nights. "There's no sheltering from this horror," the social media announcement read. "See if you can survive the nuclear apocalypse as you're immersed in 'Fallout.'" Much like the house based on "The Last of Us" in 2023 was based on the HBO Max series, it seems that the "Fallout" house will be based on the Amazon Prime adaptation starring Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, and Aaron Moten. Ella Purnell as Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean in a key visual for the Fallout TV series. Amazon's live-action series depicts the most recent events in the Fallout chronology. Ella Purnell as Vault Dweller Lucy MacLean in a key visual for the Fallout TV series. Amazon's live-action series depicts the most recent events in the Fallout chronology. Amazon Even though it is recognized more as science fiction than horror, there are plenty of terrifying moments and themes that the team at Universal Studios can pull from. First of all, the series is filled with gory moments that will give ample opportunity for designers to go wild with special effects. Then there are all the various factions and mutated people that can pop in to terrify guests, like the Brotherhood of Steel, the inhabitants of Vault 4, and raiders. More Entertainment: Alien: Earth Trailer Channels the Terror of the Original 1979 Classic Finally, there are all the monsters from the show that are sure to terrify guests, including Radroaches, Gulpers, and Ghouls. Of particular note is the Yao Guai, which is a black bear that has been mutated by radiation. Halloween Horror Nights has shown off epic animatronics in the past, and this could be another opportunity to do so. Needless to say, there is plenty of material to pull from just in the series. However, if the people at Halloween Horror Nights wanted to pull from the games, I'm sure casual and hardcore fans would be perfectly fine with that, especially looking at The Family from "Fallout 3." More Entertainment: Ginny & Georgia Season 3 – Release Date, Schedule, How To Watch The "Fallout" series was a massive success, receiving critical acclaim, audience praise, and plenty of award nominations, particularly for Goggins as The Ghoul and Purnell as Lucy.
