Mick Kent and Michael Kent Jr to test debut winner Job Done at Flemington
Job Done will give away size to most of his rivals but co-trainer Mick Price says the youngster's motor will take him a long way towards remaining unbeaten at Saturday's Flemington meeting. The two-year-old impressed with his easy debut win in a Seymour maiden on June 10 but will tackle the Flemington straight course for the first time in the Next Generations Sprinters Series Final (1200m). Price, who trains Job Done in partnership with Michael Kent Jr, said the son of Snitzel worked well at Cranbourne on Saturday morning as part of his preparation for his $150,000 target. 'He will turn up and run well at Flemington,' Price said. 'Ben Melham rode him in his gallop and he worked like a horse that needs a horse to follow. 'His first win was good and he's a small gelding with a big stride. 'He's got a motor and a good pedigree and I think he'll run well down the straight.' Job Done is a half-brother to New Zealand Group 2 winner Contessa Vanessa, who also won a Listed race over 2100m. Price said he expected Job Done to handle 1200m at Flemington. 'That's 1200m that race and we're assuming he has that proper stamina about him,' he said. Price and Kent Jr will also run emerging filly Knobelas in the $150,000 Silver Bowl Final (1600m) for three-year-olds. Knobelas was beaten on debut over 1400m at Pakenham on May 8 but has since posted comfortable wins over 1600m at Pakenham and Sandown. Price said the New Zealand-bred filly also worked well on Saturday morning despite saving her best for race day. 'She's not a great trackworker,' Price said. 'She's a better racehorse and she's had tie-forward surgery, which is probably why we hear her blow a bit more than normal but it doesn't worry her. 'She's gone from a maiden to win at Sandown and should continue to improve.'

Training partners Patrick and Michelle Payne claim a winning quartet at Flemington on Saturday
Jimmy The Bear delivered a landmark Flemington four-timer for sibling co-trainers Patrick and Michelle Payne with victory in The David Bourke (1620m). The consistent gelding made amends for a last start Flemington defeat with a strong performance under rising star apprentice jockey Tom Prebble, who sealed a running treble with the win. Michelle Payne hailed the Flemington milestone as 'a huge team effort'. 'Patrick has worked so hard at home with everybody, it's a huge team effort,' Payne said. ' Jimmy is the stable favourite, so beautiful to do it with him.' Earlier on the card, Payne saddled winners Buccleuch, Stop The Rock and Bold Soul. Patrick Payne trained four provincial winners previously at Mildura in 2022. The four-timer bettered Michelle Payne's best efforts in the saddle before she turned her hand to training. 'I nearly rode the quaddie legs at Bendigo one day,' Payne laughed. 'I got pipped on the post, so three sadly.' Payne praised the 'beautiful' rides of Billy Egan (Buccleuch and Stop The Rock) and nephew Tom Prebble (Bold Soul and Jimmy The Bear) at Flemington. Prebble rated Jimmy The Bear nicely three back the rail but needed galloping room in the straight. 'Beautiful ride by Tom, he didn't panic,' Payne said. 'Obviously he had to guide him through a tight run and the horse just did the rest.' Jimmy The Bear is set to advance to the Listed Winter Championship Series Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 5. 'All going well, I can't see why not,' Payne said. 'He's training on beautifully and today was a really effortless win.' Prebble enjoyed riding another winner for the family. 'He put his best foot forward today and he was super,' Prebble said. 'He's a big horse, I knew he would be able to push his way out if I needed to, but had to wait for the race to unfold, Flemington is a beautiful track and usually every horse does gets its chance.' Casino Seventeen, the 2024 Perth Cup winner, finished off well to run second in The David Bourke at his first start in Melbourne for Cranbourne trainer Gavin Bedggood. Holymanz and Pounding rounded out the top four. Earlier, Payne enjoyed the win of progressive three-year-old Stop The Rock. 'He's a lovely horse, he's a real sleeper actually,' Payne said. 'All of his trials before he raced were pretty moderate and Patrick put the blinkers on his first start and he won at good odds at Warrnambool, he just seems to step up to the mark on race day.'

Four-Play, Quadzilla: Gilbert Gardiner's best bets for Saturday
Victorian form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Flemington on Saturday. Victorian form analyst Gilbert Gardiner presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Flemington on Saturday. • â– â– â– â– â– $50 win SHOCKLETZ (3) at $3 Powered home to win a similar race last start at Flemington with a big gap to third and the remainder of the field. First three past the post, including game runner-up PROCHESTER (7) and NEARCO FROD (2) square off again on Saturday. Prochester almost pinched the race last start, unlikely to be afforded such a leg rope again. Shockletz has a significant weight rise – 4kg more than last start – to contend with but not beyond the three-year-old sister of Horrifying. The Ciaron Maher-trained Shocking filly looks the one to beat again. "Shockletz SURGING on the outside & got up!" 🗣ï¸ Shockletz thunders down the middle of the track to claim Prochester in the final bound! âš¡ï¸ @HTCoffey @cmaherracing — (@Racing) June 7, 2025 $25 each way GREAT MAXIMUS (8) at $7/$2.50 South Australian raider dropped into Flemington around this time last year and challenged for the win, placed third beaten less than a length. Back again and in better form than last year, coming off consecutive wins in SA. The Magnus gelding, a six-time winner from 13 starts, has the tactical speed to cross from barrier eight and settle within striking distance. Favourite CAFE MILLENIUM (2) an eye-catcher from the back last start at Caulfield but the former Sydney galloper has one win – on debut – from 18 starts. Happy to risk in quite an even race. Great Maximus charges home for a stirring late finish to snag his second win in a row right on the line ðŸ'° @RJollyRacing — (@Racing) June 7, 2025 $25 each-way SAMUEL LANGHORNE (12) at $8/$2.70 Not quite a good thing licked last start but certainly not afforded the opportunity to contend after being held up behind a wall of horses. Switched off heels eventually and made a run inside the last 200m to get within two lengths of winner MUKTAMIL (10), a $9 chance on Saturday. Third-up and ready to win with even luck. Wary of progressive DIWALI (7), gone from Benchmark 58 to Listed Sandown Cup winner the past four starts. Samuel Langhorne keeps the favourite backers happy in the first at Mornington ðŸ¤ @MCKentRacing — (@Racing) April 9, 2023 $25 each way HOLYMANZ (5) at $8.50/$2.80 Building to another win? Strong first-up effort at Flemington four starts back then caught too far back in two subsequent appearances in stronger grade. Dropped back to Open company last start, runner-up in the Swan Hill Cup behind the in-form DASHING ($23). Favourite JIMMY THE BEAR (3) should be fighting out the finish again. Jimmy The Bear placed second behind subsequent Stradbroke Handicap winner War Machine first-up and then won at Caulfield. Settled too far back from a wide barrier last start at Flemington but worked home to run second, albeit in vain, behind the runaway winner Oh Too Good. Holymanz remains the sole winner of the Coastal Classic, victorious in the races' first two runnings ðŸ'« @cmaherracing @OsborneSaffie — (@Racing) January 4, 2025 â– â– â– â– â– QUADZILLA LEG 1, RACE 6 SAMUEL LANGHORNE (12) held up at a crucial stage last start and finished off well to run fourth. Should be ready to show something third-up on Saturday with even luck. DIWALI (7) won the Listed Sandown Cup (2800m) with authority last start. Back in distance and bridging run towards the Flemington Cup next month. Include but query. THROUGH IRISH EYES (13) and BOLD SOUL (5) next best. 1ST LEG 5, 7, 12, 13 LEG 2, RACE 7 SPLASH BACK (6) won impressively last start at Caulfield – blew them away from back in the field – and would not need to improve much to repeat the dose. The talented mare has won five of 11 starts and placed twice. Should build on the winning record on Saturday. AVEBURY (5) has been game in defeat the past two starts with big weights. Up in grade but down in weight and respect the booking of champion jockey Craig Williams. MOLLYNICKERS (3) has the right form to figure in the finish again. 2ND LEG 3, 5, 6 LEG 3, RACE 8 JIMMY THE BEAR (3) is a worthy favourite and looks hardest to beat. Drawn a gate on Saturday so should get a lovely run in transit. HOLYMANZ (5) has four runs under the belt, last start runner-up in the Swan Hill Cup, and ready to peak. Include ST LAWRENCE (8). 3RD LEG 3, 5, 8, 11 FIELDELO (9) rocketed to a seven-length Benchmark 58 Fillies and Mares win at Bendigo first-up and despite a sharp rise in grade on Saturday must be respected. SALSA FELLOW (2) has won two on the trot and overcame adversity last start, held up at a crucial stage, to get the result. BOLD BASTILLE (1) could take catching and has won and placed down the straight previously. SUN SETTING (14) not without a chance at odds. FOURTH LEG 1, 2, 9, 14 FLEMINGTON QUADDIE Race 6: 5, 7, 12, 13 Race 7: 3, 5, 6 Race 8: 3, 5, 8, 11 Race 9: 1, 2, 9, 14 COST $100 FOR 52 per cent

Grateful apprentice Hannah Edgely shooting for third straight Saturday win at Flemington
A little more faith could take apprentice Hannah Edgley back to the Flemington winner's stall on Saturday. The 3kg-claiming Edgley has ridden winners at the last two Saturday city meetings, including at the last Flemington meeting on June 7 aboard the Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin -trained Marble Nine. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The Corstens and Larkin camp has provided another opportunity for Edgley to repeat last Saturday's shock win on Santa Ana Moon at Flemington for which the apprentice is thankful. She will ride Umgawa for the stable in the Les Twentyman OAM Handicap (1420m). 'I'm really grateful for all the opportunities that I'm getting at the moment,' Edgley said. 'The Corstens stable have given me a couple of nice winners so if I could just keep getting the support and getting on the right horses, hopefully we can have a good winter.' But the young rider will face a tough challenge aboard in-form stayer Slane in the Bruce Gadsden Handicap (2540m). Cranbourne trainer Enver Jusufovic booked Edgley to ride Slane in the $150,000 race despite the apprentice being unable to use her 3kg claim. Adding to Jusufovic's show of faith in Edgely was the fact he scratched Slane from an easier race at Sandown on Wednesday to tackle the quality handicap. 'I thought he had a big winning chance at Sandown so to scratch him and run him on Saturday is a massive thrill,' Edgley said. 'It makes me a little bit nervous as that's why many trainers put you on, because we have that advantage of the 3kg claim. 'As much as it is nerve-wracking, it's also exciting that they trust you to get the job done.' Edgley rode Slane to a front-running win at Cranbourne two runs back before Jamie Mott steered the five-year-old to his latest win at Sandown on July 4. While Edgley has won on Slane, she said she would attempt to follow the example Jye McNeil set when he led throughout to win the 2020 Melbourne Cup on Twilight Payment. 'It's not quite the distance of the Melbourne Cup but I might go back and watch Jye McNeil's ride and see how he led up the Cup and try and do the same thing,' Edgley said. 'He tows you up there in his own time and once he gets there, he sets the speed for you. 'He'll tell you what speed he wants to go. 'He's a big horse that likes stride along so you look to get as cheap a sectionals as you can on him and then you just roll into it.' Slane is a $12 chance to give Edgley another Flemington win, which would also bring the apprentice closer to her short-term goal of getting her claim down to 2kg. 'I have another eight winners in town before I lose my 3(kg claim) and that's sort of my aim at the moment, to get down to 2kg,' Edgley said. 'It would be great to get through more but during the winter, I'm hoping to tick a few off in the next few weeks.'
