Teaser Trailer for Ron Howard's Survival Thriller EDEN with Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, and More — GeekTyrant

Here's a new teaser trailer for director Ron Howard's upcoming film Eden , which is a survival thriller that comes with an impressive ensemble cast that includes Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Sydney Sweeney, and Daniel Brühl. The movie is based on an unsolved mystery that unfolded on a remote island in the Galapagos, and it charts the lengths humans will go in pursuit of happiness. It's inspired by two different accounts of the same true story, and the film is described as 'a darkly comic tale of murder and survival, set around a group of eclectic characters who abandon civilization for the Galapagos. They are all searching for the answer to that ever-pressing question that plagues us all: what is the meaning of life.' In the film, 'Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Law) and his partner Dora Strauch (Kirby) flee their native Germany in 1929, repudiating the bourgeois values they believe are corroding mankind's true nature. On the Galapagos isle named Floreana, Friedrich can focus on writing his manifesto, while Dora resolves to cure her multiple sclerosis through meditation. 'Their hard-won solitude, however, is short lived. They're joined by Margaret (Sweeney) and Heinz Wittmer (Brühl), who also prove to be earnest, capable settlers. Next comes Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Armas) a self-described Baroness and the 'embodiment of perfection,' who arrives with two devoted lovers, an Ecuadorian servant, a wardrobe full of evening gowns, and plans to erect a luxury hotel. 'Between inclement weather, unruly wildlife, and a total lack of amenities, all three groups find life on Floreana arduous. But nothing will test their mettle more than the challenge of coexisting with desperate neighbours capable of theft, deception... and worse.' This is a very different kind of film from Howard, who previously helmed Splash, Cocoon, Willow, Backdraft, The Paper, Apollo 13, Ransom, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code, Rush, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Hillbilly Elegy , and Thirteen Lives most recently. The screenplay is written by Noah Park ( The Show , Tetris ). The film will hit theaters on August 22, 2025.

Sydney Sweeney's dramatic makeover revealed in new trailer for Eden

Sydney Sweeney unveiled quite a dramatic make-under for her role as the real-life German settler Margret Wittmer in the first trailer for Ron Howard's $50M-budget survival thriller Eden, which debuted Wednesday. Audiences are used to seeing the 27-year-old Euphoria stunner looking every bit the Hollywood blonde bombshell. Sydney's character was four months pregnant when she moved the Galápagos archipelago's Southern most island Floreana in 1932 with her husband Heinz (Daniel Brühl) and stepson Harry (Jonathan Tittel). Sweeney reportedly has a wild birth scene in Eden where she fends off feral animals just as her water breaks, and Margret eventually welcomes a son and daughter on the remote South American isle. The tight-knit community soon discover 'their greatest threat isn't the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other' as Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas) and Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) begin wielding guns. 'Trust me by this time next year, one of us will be gone,' Eloise warned Friedrich. 'I personally hope it's not you.' The Cuban 37-year-old's wealthy 'baroness' character is also seen engaging in a wet and wild threesome with her two devoted male companions in the ocean. In one ominous shot, a mystery person is seen throwing another person off a massive seaside cliff. 'They're trying their best to ruin us,' Margret told Heinz. 'They won't, because we are a family.' The real Margret Wittmer was buried on Floreana Island in 2000 when she died, at age 95, after expanding the settlement and writing about her experiences in the 1959 book Floreana: A Woman's Pilgrimage to the Galápagos. The Echo Valley actress replaced Daisy Edgar-Jones in the role back in 2023 due to her commitment to Twisters amid the SAG-AFTRA strikes. German-born Diane Kruger previously voiced Margret in Daniel Geller and Dayna Goldfine's 2013 documentary The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden. 'It's every actor's dream to work with Ron. I grew up loving your films, but being able to work with you, I have just learned what an amazing human being you are,' Sydney gushed during the Q&A at the TIFF premiere on September 7. 'And when Margret came to me, I was absolutely amazed by [it being] a true story and it wasn't her choice. And she had to follow her husband's footsteps and she had no idea what she was getting herself into. She was a child at that! 'And it was just such a crazy character journey for her and for all the other characters. And I absolutely wanted to dive into it. And with such an amazing cast, I mean, this is like a dream to be able to be a part of, but I'm just really lucky.' Sweeney reportedly has a wild birth scene in Eden where she fends off feral animals just as her water breaks, and Margret eventually welcomes a son and daughter on the remote South American isle The tight-knit community soon discover 'their greatest threat isn't the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other' as Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn (Ana de Armas) and Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law) begin wielding guns Thus far, Eden has earned a dismal 57% critic approval rating (out of 30 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie formerly known as Origin of Species - hitting US theaters August 22 - also stars Vanessa Kirby, Felix Kammerer, Toby Wallace, and Richard Roxburgh. But first, audiences can catch Sweeney as South Dakota waitress Penny Jo Poplin in Tony Tost's modern-day western Americana, which finally hits US theaters August 15. Lionsgate's long-delayed crime thriller - formerly known as National Anthem - also stars Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Eric Dane, and Simon Rex. The Spokane-born, LA-raised beauty recently reprised her breakout role as Cassie Howard in the eight-episode third season of HBO hit show Euphoria, which is produced by and starring Zendaya as Ruby 'Rue' Bennett. Sam Levinson's drug-fueled drama will welcome newcomers Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison in season three. In January, Sydney was hard at work executive producing and starring in Paul Feig's big-screen adaptation of Freida McFadden's 2022 novel The Housemaid, which Lionsgate plans to release in time for Christmas. The Echo Valley actress replaced Daisy Edgar-Jones in the role back in 2023 due to her commitment to Twisters amid the SAG-AFTRA strikes Sydney gushed during the Q&A at the TIFF premiere on September 7: 'It's every actor's dream to work with Ron (R). This summer, the Fifty-Fifty Films co-founder will begin producing and starring in her Euphoria castmate Colman Domingo's feature directorial debut Scandalous! about the love affair between Kim Novak and Sammy Davis Jr. (David Jonsson). Sydney is very much in demand with several projects in the works including the Reddit-based thriller I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl for Warner Bros, Jon M. Chu's sci-fi flick Split Fiction for Amazon MGM Studios, and she's producing Michael Bay's video game adaptation OutRun for Universal. Aside from her movie career, Sweeney is every bit the influencer with lucrative paid partnerships for brands like Samsung Mobile USA, Dr. Squatch, LANEIGE US, Bai, and HEYDUDE.

Experience: I travelled the world delivering letters to strangers

I have always loved travelling, and have spent most of my adult life either on the move or planning my next adventure. In 2014, I was living in London when my dad, Eric, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). I immediately moved back to my home town of New Plymouth in New Zealand, to help and spend time with him. When he passed away in October 2022, I wanted to find a way to process my grief, and I was desperate to get back out into the world. In early 2023, I took off to the Galápagos Islands for a much-needed break. While there, I visited Post Office Bay, on Floreana Island. There's an old whisky barrel there that is used as a postbox. It was first used by sailors in 1793 to send mail back home: they would leave a letter and take any that were addressed to their next port of call to deliver them by hand. It's still used by tourists. People will leave a letter and take one that they are able to hand-deliver to their next destination. The barrel was full to the brim with postcards waiting for delivery. I took a couple home with me and delivered them with glee: one to a teacher from their pupil, and another from a girl to her boyfriend. The recipients were incredibly grateful, and it felt wonderful to have brought such joy. Weeks later, I couldn't stop thinking about the letters. I'd already planned to do some more travelling, but then I thought: what if I spent a year delivering more letters from that postbox? I realised I could keep my remote job, and at the same time travel the world delivering post, using air miles and working along the way. I decided to document my journey on social media, partly to keep a record of my adventures, but also to help raise awareness of MND. I had watched Dad lose his ability to travel and physically communicate, which was devastating, so I wanted to remember him by making meaningful human contact. In March 2024, I set off for Galápagos. I picked out 55 letters and postcards that covered a large geographic area. I aimed to deliver one a week, covering at least 52 countries and spanning all seven continents, starting in Central America and finishing in Europe. I avoided using social media to get in touch with people, going purely by address. If they weren't there, I'd ask around locally, then use social media, doing my best to hand-deliver the letter. Sometimes, friends who had joined me for part of the trip could help translate, but I had to rely on Google Translate a lot. Usually, people were initially confused, but that would turn to complete joy as they read their letter. I was extremely nervous about the first few deliveries. I didn't know how people would react to me knocking on their door unannounced. I'm 52 and very outgoing, but I'm aware that nowadays people are wary of speaking to one other. Delivering letter number 50, in Bergen, Norway, I almost got arrested. The lady who answered the door didn't believe my story and mistook my selfie stick for a weapon, so she called the police. I had to show the officers my Instagram journey to prove what I was doing, and we all ended up laughing together. In Belize, I delivered a love letter to a man, only to find he had broken up with his partner. Weeks later, I got a message to say they were back together. My favourite delivery was letter eight, in Mexico City, from a daughter to her mother, thanking her for letting her follow her dreams. The mother had been very ill, and her daughter wanted to come home from her travels to look after her, but she insisted her daughter continued with her trip. I'm still in touch with both of them. When I finished my challenge in March this year, I held a party in London and invited everyone I'd met along the way. People came from all over the world – I was so touched and humbled. I've made friends for life. Now my challenge is over, I've decided to write a book and help develop a film about my travels, but I'm already starting to get itchy feet. The only problem is finding a way to top my last adventure. As told to Heather Main Do you have an experience to share? Email experience@
