Mobile Game Monday: CREATURES OF THE DEEP
Greetings, friends, and welcome to Mobile Game Monday, where we chat about games you can play on the go. If you like gaming on a phone or tablet , this is the place for you. Join us every week as we go on all sorts of adventures.
Summer and fishing go hand in fin, but you don't necessarily have to hit the water or get a sunburn to catch some fish. Just grab your phone and relax while you explore amazing islands and catch hundreds of fish in Creatures of the Deep .

Creatures of the Deep (2022) is a fishing simulation game developed and published by Infinite Dreams. Use the Flying Bob Travel Agency to explore eight locations from Alaska to the Amazon. Cruise around these peaceful places in your little boat, then cast a line to collect over 600 items, including fish, treasure, and sea monsters. Can you collect all of the fish and discover every secret at each location? Gameplay
Drag your finger to walk around the island and cruise the waters in your boat. On the water, when you see fish-shaped shadows, park your boat and drop your line in front of the shadow. The fishing mechanics are similar to those in other games. Tap to drop your line, wait while the fish nibbles a bit, and then tap again to pull in your line at just the right moment. Each destination has a unique roster of critters to catch and an NPC with quests to guide you around the island. However, there is more to completing your collection than simply dropping a line just anywhere. Sometimes you need to catch a specific fish for a quest and not every critter is the same.

It is important to know that some creatures only appear in certain seasons within designated areas at different times of the day. So, make sure you are looking in the right place at the right time. Upgrading your rod, along with using the correct lure and bait, ensures the catch of a lifetime. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin.
Additionally, some creatures are more dangerous than others, and every island is home to a legendary sea monster like Shredder the shark or Bessie the lake monster. As you complete quests for the quirky captains on each island, they will gradually give you tips on how to catch the big one.

One of the best things about Creatures of the Deep is that there is a game mode for everyone, no matter what your play style. Choose to play solo or join a clan for cooperative play. Clans can conquer seasonal challenges together and even collectively build a massive base. Image courtesy of Google Play.
If you crave competition, fish in tournaments or battle others in intense pvp duels. Additionally, completing daily quests as well as competing in tournaments and monster hunts will yield epic rewards.

As you level, rebuild parts of the islands to access places like the wardrobe. Here you can customize your look with any new clothing, accessories, or jewelry you have collected. Of course, the shop lets you sell extra fish, and you can use your earnings to build up your camp or upgrade your aquarium. Other buildings, like the dockyard, let you do things like customize your boat and increase your inventory. Image courtesy of Google Play.
Each area requires a specific level, materials, and gold to unlock. Building materials like wood are very scarce, which makes unlocking areas very slow. Leveling is also a slow process in Creatures of the Deep, and it takes a lot of grinding to make very little progress. So if you are an impatient player who needs instant gratification, this may not be the game for you.

When you do finally level, you will get an ability point to increase luck, strength, reflex, perception, or charisma. These skills make fishing easier; for example, luck will increase your chances of finding rare fish. Our Adventure Ends Here
Although I enjoyed collecting all of the fish, especially the monsters, I found catching things in Creatures of the Deep a tad frustrating. The game gives you a split second to catch the fish and is very unforgiving. A slow leveling system and scarce resources only add to the frustration. However, the locations are fun to explore and beautifully designed.

Consequently, I loved cruising around the maps in the little boat because the controls are so smooth and satisfying. The soundtrack also adds to the Zen experience with atmospheric nature sounds and melodious music. Ironically, I loved everything about Creatures of the Deep except for the actual fishing mechanic. Finicky fishing aside, Creatures of the Deep is worth a play, especially if you could use some relaxing downtime.
Take it easy, and play it safe, gamers.
Creatures of the Deep is available for free in the Google Play Store and the App Store.
