Siblings trying to win lottery together for eight years finally hit big jackpot

A lottery pool started between a group of Maryland siblings eight years ago finally landed them a big jackpot prize, lottery officials said. The four siblings won the top prize worth $1.8 million in the June 30 drawing of Multi-Match in Ocean City, about a 145-mile drive southeast from Baltimore, the Maryland Lottery said in a July 9 news release. One other person won the jackpot for that drawing in Silver Spring, so the prize will be split between the two tickets, according to the lottery. The group of siblings told lottery officials they began pulling their money together to play Multi-Match after the birth of a child in their family several years ago. The sister in charge of collecting money and buying the ticket called each sibling to let them know they had perfectly matched six numbers in the game, lottery officials said. 'Let's rock and roll,' one sibling said in response to her call, according to the lottery. The winning ticket was bought at a Food Lion store, lottery officials said. The other winning ticket was bought at a Giant food store, lottery officials said. The odds of winning the jackpot per $2 ticket are 1 in 2,032,151.7 and the odds of winning per line are 1 in 6,096,454, according to the game's web page.

Food Lion adds location-tracking tech to its pickup operations

Food Lion has started using location-tracking technology from artificial intelligence provider Flybuy to improve the efficiency and convenience of its curbside pickup service, the companies announced Tuesday. Flybuy's technology assists store employees in ensuring orders are ready when shoppers arrive to collect them by tracking people's location when they are en route to the store. In addition to helping reduce wait times for customers, the system enables stores to more efficiently use order staging areas and parking spots designated for pickup, according to the companies. The platform also helps associates better manage their time by providing insight into when orders need to be ready. Food Lion has already seen customer wait times decrease by more than 40% by using Flybuy's system, an improvement that has led to a "notable rise" in customer satisfaction, according to the announcement. The grocer is following fellow Ahold Delhaize-owned supermarket chains Giant Food, The Giant Company, Stop & Shop and Hannaford in incorporating Flybuy's technology into its operations. Food Lion also works with third-party e-commerce providers like Instacart and DoorDash. Food Lion is infusing its pickup service, known as Food Lion To Go, with FlyBuy's technology at a time when Ahold Delhaize has been dealing with sluggish online sales growth in the U.S. But while the Netherlands-based grocery company's overall digital sales were down stateside in all four quarters of its last fiscal year, Food Lion turned in double-digit e-commerce sales growth for the year. Food Lion's online sales were up by almost 40% during Ahold Delhaize's most recent quarter. Food Lion is also Ahold Delhaize's best-performing U.S. banner as measured by comparable-store sales. The chain, which operates over 1,100 supermarkets in 10 states, has posted 50 consecutive quarters of comparable-store sales growth. Copyright 2025 Industry Dive. All rights reserved.

Ahold Delhaize USA 2024 cyberattack exposed 2 million people's data

Food retailer Ahold Delhaize USA has confirmed that the cybersecurity incident that took place on 5 November 2024 exposed the data of 2.24 million people. The update follows a brief statement issued by the company in April 2025. The external system breach compromised sensitive customer information including names, Social Security numbers, health info and financial account details such as bank account numbers. Ahold Delhaize stated: 'We are writing to notify you of a cybersecurity issue that may have affected your personal information contained in employment records related to you or your family member.' 'We detected a cybersecurity issue involving unauthorised access to some of our internal US business systems on 6 November 2024. We immediately launched an investigation with the assistance of leading external cybersecurity experts, coordinated with US federal law enforcement, and began taking steps to contain the issue. 'Based on our investigation, we identified that an unauthosised third party obtained certain files from one of our internal US file repositories between 5 and 6 November 2024.' Following a review of the impacted files, the company confirmed that 'some of these files may have included internal employment records containing personal information about you that we obtained in the course of providing services for certain current and former Ahold Delhaize USA companies'. Ahold Delhaize operates brands such as Food Lion, Giant Food, Hannaford and Stop & Shop. It operates more than 2,000 stores in 23 US states. According to UK security software company Comparitech, the incident ranks as the eighth-largest ransomware breach on a US company in 2024 and the 11th largest globally. The ransomware group Inc claimed responsibility, though this has not been verified. In May 2025, Ahold Delhaize reported net sales of €23.28bn ($26.41bn) in the first quarter (Q1) of fiscal 2025 (FY25) – a 5% rise at constant exchange rates. Two Million People Affected by US Retail Data Breach

Ahold Delhaize data breach compromised 2.2M records, including sensitive personal, financial, and health information. Employees' data like SSNs, passport, and bank info were stolen - potential for identity theft. Customers not directly affected, but former employees should freeze credit reports and monitor for fraud. Not all data breaches come from the major apps and services you use every day. Some of them come from the places you least expect. If you used to work at any of Ahold Delhaize's brands, including Food Lion or Stop & Shop, you might want to run and get some freezes on your credit reports when you get a chance. Global food retail conglomerate Ahold Delhaize has officially confirmed that a ransomware attack last November compromised the sensitive data of more than 2.2 million people in the US. The breach exposed a vast trove of personal, financial, and health information belonging to current and former employees. According to the disclosure, attackers first gained access to the company's internal US business systems on November 6, 2024. The filing officially states that 2,242,521 individuals were impacted. The company is now in the process of notifying those affected. The stolen data varies by individual, but since there seem to be employee records mixed around here, it's a lotof data. Compromised files may include a combination of full names, contact details such as postal and email addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth. But it doesn't stop there. For some people they might also have Social Security numbers, passport numbers, driver's license numbers, and bank account information. Enough info for someone to siphon money out of your bank account, open credit cards in your name, or commit identity theft. Yikes. Furthermore, protected health information was stolen, including details related to workers' compensation claims and other medical information contained within employment files. Ahold Delhaize specified that based on its investigation, it has "no indication that customer payment or pharmacy systems were compromised" and found "no customer credit card numbers contained in the affected files." So, average buyers and shoppers shouldn't be affected much by this. From the sound of it, though, if you used to work here, it's pretty bad. Ahold Delhaize runs brands such as Food Lion, Stop & Shop, Giant Food, and Hannaford, with varying nationwide presences. So it's no surprise to see that so many people are affected. If you think you might be affected and that your SSN might be in the hands of malicious actors, it's a good idea to put freezes on your credit reports from major bureaus such as TransUnion and Equifax, and monitor them for any suspicious activity.
