Selangor Launches First Phase Of Silp Worth RM500 Mln

SEKINCHAN, June 28 (Bernama) -- The first phase of the Selangor Integrated Landing Port (SILP) project, aimed at strengthening the state's fisheries sector, was launched today with an investment of RM500 million. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the project, expected to begin by the end of 2026, will also complement the state's food security initiatives, such as the Selangor Food Warehouse. 'The first phase will involve the construction of a centralised jetty, about 30 to 40 fishing boat parking bays and serviced apartments. 'Subsequent phases will include facilities for boat repairs, maintenance and construction, followed by the development of tourism zones,' he told reporters after the launch of the SILP project here today. Amirudin said the project is expected to boost the state's agricultural output by five per cent, positioning Selangor's west coast as a long-term economic growth hub. He said that SILP is also intended to serve as a model for effective fisheries ecosystem management for other states, similar to the padi cultivation system practised in Sekinchan. 'At present, agriculture, including fisheries, contributes only one per cent to Selangor's economy. 'Together with the approved prawn farming ponds in Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor and the agricultural development areas being planned by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, we project a five per cent increase in the upcoming Selangor Plan, either the second or third plan,' he said. The first phase of the SILP project, spanning 33.9 hectares and expected to be developed over a five-year period, will include a fish auction hall, a commercial fish market, a tide-adaptive dock, a logistics hub for seafood distribution and maritime services, as well as shoreline upgrades.

Scottish city's last ever Iceland to shut for good as company axes more stores

SHUTTERS DOWN Scottish city's last ever Iceland to shut for good as company axes more stores THE LAST remaining Iceland store in a Scottish city is set to shut for good in weeks, leaving shoppers gutted. The frozen food firm has over 900 stores across the UK, and bosses announced that two would close over the summer. 1 Bosses at Iceland revealed that two UK branches would be closing in July Credit: Alamy This included one shop in Inverness, in the Highlands, and the other in Margate, Kent. The Scottish branch, located in the city's Rose Street Retail Park, will pull the shutters down for the final time on Saturday, July 12. The store down south will then close just over a week later on Monday, July 21. Despite the retailer having hundreds of shops across the country, the Rose Street branch is the only one in Inverness. It is situated near Home Bargains, Starbucks and Smyths Toy Shop. Instead, shoppers will have to visit The Food Warehouse, which is owned by Iceland Foods and is located a six-minute drive away on Telford Street. That's a shame, that is a very handy wee store for people in town and to the east of Inverness Shopper on social media The branch is a larger warehouse-style store which opened in November 2022. There is also a Food Warehouse branch in Elgin; however, the next-nearest Iceland shop is in Inverurie. This would mean that locals would be forced to drive for over two hours to get to the closest Iceland shop that wasn't a Food Warehouse. In a statement, Iceland previously said that staff at the Inverness and Kent sites have entered a "consultation process and will be offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible". How supermarket chain Iceland is filling its stores with CRIMINALS in major drive to cut reoffending The reason for the supermarket's shock closure is currently unknown. However, locals were left gutted by the news, and many have flocked to social media to share their disappointment. One person said: "Shame, Iceland is in such a good location, not everyone can get to Telford Street." Another added: "Inverness is becoming a tourist city. We who live here don't count". Someone else wrote: "That's a shame, that is a very handy wee store for people in town and to the east of Inverness". And a fourth posted: "With the appalling reputation that the car park has earned itself, this is of no surprise and sadly, other closures in this part of town may follow." While a fifth chimed in: "Parking is a huge issue for me at that retail park and I avoid it like the plague. It's sad because the shops there I used to visit regularly." A spokesperson for Iceland previously said: 'We can confirm our Iceland store located at Rose Street, Inverness, is scheduled to close on 12th July 2025. 'Our store colleagues will enter into a consultation process and will be offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible. 'Shoppers can visit our local Food Warehouse store in Inverness, located on Telford Street.' The latest closures mean Iceland has shut more than 20 stores since the start of 2023.

Iceland confirms exact date another supermarket store will shut for good

The Shotton Iceland branch - which is located on Chester Road - is pulling down the shutters for good when the store closes at 4pm on Monday, June 23 Iceland has confirmed the closure of another one of its supermarket stores this month. The frozen food chain confirmed on social media last month that its branch in Shotton would be closing in June. The Shotton Iceland branch - which is located on Chester Road - is pulling down the shutters for good when the store closes at 4pm on Monday, June 23. ‌ However, shoppers shouldn't be too worried, as the retailer is opening up a brand new site the very next day. The chain will be opening a new Food Warehouse store in Connah's Quay at 8am the morning after on Tuesday, June 24. ‌ The new site is based at Deeside Retail Park, the former Queensferry Lidl site. Lidl recently relocated to a new purpose-built store in the area. Before the move, Lidl had served the area for nearly 30 years. The Food Warehouse - launched by the frozen food retailer back in 2014 - is a larger store format compared to Iceland and offers shoppers an extended range of frozen, chilled and grocery products. Alongside this, it offers larger bulk buy options. Food Warehouse stores typically span 10,000 to 15,000 square feet and are commonly located in retail parks. In its social media post, Iceland said: 'A brand new The Food Warehouse store will open at Deeside Retail Parc at 8am on Tuesday 24th June! Don't worry you can still shop with us at any of our neighbouring Iceland or The Food Warehouse stores. This is not goodbye, but see you again soon!' Iceland already has a presence at Deeside Retail Park through a concession inside The Range store, located next to the soon-to-open Food Warehouse. Iceland has closed a handful of stores over the last few months, which included its Welling branch in London., as well as its stores on Shenley Road, Borehamwood and Alphington Road Retail Park in Exeter. ‌ However, this comes alongside a few new openings too with a new store in Derby and at Victoria Chambers on London Road. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to open 20 Iceland and Food Warehouse stores by the end of April. At the time, the group's bosses claimed that its new 500,000 square foot £100million distribution centre in Warrington would be "game-changing" for the business. The Omega Park Site in Warrington - which opened in partnership with GXO in February - supplies around 350 Iceland stores across the north west of England, the Scottish borders and Wales.
