Madhya Pradesh CM's convoy comes to a grinding halt after cars are refuelled with ‘water-mixed' diesel

According to officials, when the drivers switched on the ignition after refuelling, a few vehicles stopped at the petrol station itself, while a few others stopped over the next 500 metres. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was on his way to Ratlam for an event on Friday. The vehicles in the convoy—mostly Toyota Innovas—stopped at Shakti Fueling station located near Dosigaon village on the Indore-Mhow road about 10 kilometers short of the Ratlam collectorate. These cars were carrying the chief minister's staff. Bhopal: There was major embarrassment for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, when on Thursday night, 19 cars in his convoy suddenly came to a halt—because they had been re-fuelled with allegedly adulterated diesel. Private vehicles were quickly arranged for the officials who were in the cars that had broken down, while officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department were rushed to the spot to investigate the incident. A press note issued by the district administration stated, 'Due to the heavy rain in the district, water seeped into the diesel tank of the petrol pump. Subsequently the diesel filled in the vehicles had water in it, which led to the vehicles coming to an abrupt halt.' Officials inspected the density of the fuel at the pump. About 5,995 liters of petrol and 10,675 liters of diesel have been sealed. Authorities from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) which has a depot at Ratlam rushed to the spot and took three samples of diesel from the petrol pump. The petrol pump has been sealed for now, reports of tests on the samples are still awaited. A case has also been registered under section 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 against the owner of the petrol pump who has been identified as Shanti Bundela and her husband Hemraj Bundela. Both are residents of Indore. (Edited by Viny Mishra) Also read: With amassed assets worth Rs 500-700 cr, how 'corrupt' ex-RTO constable has sparked political row in MP

Wheat procurement in UP crosses 10.27 lakh metric tonnes in 2025–26

Lucknow: Wheat procurement in Uttar Pradesh crossed a new milestone of ten lakh metric tonnes for the Rabi season in 2025-26, a government spokesman said on Thursday. An estimated two lakh farmers sold wheat at the state government-operated mobile procurement centers - marking a first of its kind initiative. Surpassing last year's 9.31 lakh metric tonnes, the state government procured over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes, this season and the rise in figures has largely been attributed to Yogi Adityanath government's decision to extend procurement through mobile centres, that reached deep into villages. Wheat procurement for the Rabi marketing season (2025–26) began on March 17 and concluded on June 15. The process was carried out through 5,853 procurement centres across the state. 'More than two lakh farmers sold over 10.27 lakh metric tonnes of wheat to government agencies and payment of about Rs 2,508.26 crore has been disbursed directly to the farmers,' said the government in a statement. As per the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's directive, procurement centres remained open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. even during holidays. Senior officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department actively visited villages and maintained communication with farmers. On Sundays as well, officers continued wheat procurement through mobile centres, ensuring farmers faced no disruption in the process. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal for 2025–26, up from Rs 2,275 in the previous season – thus marking a rise of Rs 150, as fixed by the Centre, which in turn further benefitted the farmers. Payments to farmers were processed within 48 hours via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Also, the mobile procurement units enabled doorstep wheat procurement from farmers in remote villages.

Kerala's kerosene distribution plans remain a non-starter

Despite receiving a Central allocation of 56.76 lakh litres of kerosene for distribution between April and June, the Kerala government is yet to fulfil its promise of supplying the fuel to all ration card holders. The impasse which stems from a deadlock over the proposed dealers' commission threatens to derail the State's first kerosene allotment in nearly two years. The Food and Civil Supplies department had planned to supply one litre of kerosene each to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card holders and half a litre each to Priority Households (PHH) and other ration card holders, at a fixed price of ₹63 a litre. Kerosene was last distributed through ration shops in the State at ₹83 a litre. Following discussions with representatives of kerosene dealers, the department had submitted a proposal that included a commission of ₹5 and transportation cost of ₹2 a litre. However, this was rejected by the Chief Minister's Office and the Finance department. Official sources maintained that the proposed plan would not have burdened the State exchequer as no subsidy was provided for kerosene sales. On the contrary, it would have generated ₹1.35 a litre in tax revenue. Anticipating the rollout, many dealers had also begun preparations by investing in tanker trucks and renewing expired distribution licences to lift the allocated stock from oil marketing companies. Despite the dwindling time-frame for distribution, Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil remains hopeful. 'We are committed to lifting the full quota and completing distribution before the month ends. The allocation will not be lapsed at any cost,' he said. The Minister pointed out that the initial proposal was returned by the Chief Minister with instructions to reduce the dealer commission to ₹3 a litre. The revised proposal will be discussed with wholesale dealers to reach a resolution. The failure to find a solution within the month-end could result in the State losing the entire kerosene quota, potentially rendering the government's persistent efforts to achieve the allocation fruitless.
