EMPD impounds vehicles in crackdown on illegal mechanics
The EMPD intensified efforts to clamp down on illegal mechanics operating in residential areas and on public roads.
On July 12, officers from the EMPD's By-Law and Compliance Unit, along with the Truck Towing Unit, carried out a targeted operation across Boksburg, Katlehong and Germiston.
This action followed repeated complaints from concerned community members about mechanics doing business in public spaces and disrupting the safety and cleanliness of neighbourhoods. Despite previous warnings, many of them continued to operate unlawfully.

Officers also confiscated toolboxes, including four jacks and a hammer, used in the unauthorised vehicle repairs.
All the impounded vehicles and confiscated items were booked at the EMPD pounds in Alberton and Boksburg.
The EMPD reiterated its commitment to upholding municipal by-laws and ensuring residential areas do not become illegal business zones.
The department also urged residents to continue reporting such violations to help maintain order and safety in communities.
