Massimo Paolone/LaPresse via ZUMA Press/dpa Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini won the women's Giro d'Italia on Sunday as she held on to the pink jersey in the final stage won by German Liane Lippert on the famous Imola Formula One track. Longo Borghini had snatched the overall lead in the seventh and penultimate stage on Saturday from Swiss rider Marlen Reusser and finished 18 seconds ahead in the final classification. Advertisement Lippert got her second stage win in a sprint finish against Belgian twice world champion Anna van der Breggen after 134 kilometres from Forli to Imola where the action concluded on the F1 track. Reusser was third and Longo Borghini fourth with the same time. 'It's been an incredible Giro — for me and for the team. The last eight days were full gas: we had a common goal, and we achieved it," Longo Borghini said. "Yesterday was a great day, but the job wasn't finished — we had to stay focused on today's stage, and that's exactly what we did. I'm speechless ... this feeling is just amazing'. Urska Zigart of Slovenia, the partner of triple Tour de France champion Tadej Pogacar, was ninth overall.

Elisa Longo Borghini wins Giro D'Italia for the second year in a row
UAE Team ADQ's Elisa Longo Borghini has won the Giro D'Italia Women for the second year in a row. The 33-year-old Italian finished eighteen seconds ahead of Movistar's Marlen Reusser after taking the race lead from the Swiss rider in the penultimate stage. Longo Borghini finished fourth in the eighth and final stage on Sunday, as Reusser's teammate Liane Lippert was the first to cross the line from Forli to Imola. Meanwhile, Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) took the overall points classification after two stage wins and Sarah Gigante (AG Insurance-Soudal) won the overall climber classification. After winning the first stage of the race — an individual time trial — Reusser spent four stages in the leader's maglia rosa jersey, gaining a sixteen second lead in the general classification going into the penultimate stage. On this seventh stage Longo Borghoni attacked on a descent before the final climb with her teammate Silvia Persico and despite being passed by AG Insurance-Soudal rider Sarah Gigante, she held on to take the GC lead for the first time that week. Advertisement The 22 second cushion above Reusser was enough to secure her second Giro win in as many years. 'It's been eight days completely full gas, we created actions, we believed every single day, and we stayed humble,' Longo Borghini said after the race. 'And I can't be much more thankful to my teammates than now, because if I wear this jersey now, it's because of them. 'They were super committed, they were never surrendering, and I'm just speechless.' Movistar collected the most stage wins over the week with three, ahead of AG Insurance-Soudal (2), Team SD Works-Protime (2) and Lidl-Trek (1).

French taxi driver charged with theft after David Lammy dispute
French police have charged a taxi driver with stealing luggage and cash from UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and his wife Nicola driver allegedly sped off with the couple's luggage after a row over a fare for the 360-mile journey from Forli, in Italy, to the French ski resort of Flaine, in driver insisted he was owed 700 euros (£590) in cash for part of the journey not covered by an upfront payment to a booking the Foreign Office said in a statement the fare had been paid in full before they set off on their private holiday. The taxi driver had a row with Ms Green before driving off with their luggage to a police station, where he made a to French newspaper la Provence, an investigation into a "commercial dispute" was opened by the Bonneville prosecutor's office in Haute-Savoie.A member of the foreign secretary's office contacted the driver to get the luggage back, and it was allegedly deposited at a police station with a "considerable" sum of money missing from Ms Green's bag, prompting her to make a statement to prosecutor Boris Duffau told the BBC the taxi driver was now being charged with theft."An investigation has been opened following a disagreement regarding the payment of a taxi ride between Italy and France," said Mr Duffau."After an investigation by French police, the Bonneville prosecutor's office has decided to prosecute the taxi driver who has been summoned to appear at the Bonneville court on 3 November 2025."He has been charged with theft (of luggage and cash) to the detriment of Nicola Green and David Lindon Lammy."The couple had decided to take a private holiday in France after spending three days on a state visit to Italy with King Charles and Queen say they arranged their own transport, at their own expense, through booking company Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) told the BBC there were no sensitive documents or laptops in the car and the foreign secretary had been travelling on his own personal passport, rather than a diplomatic FCDO strongly disputes the taxi driver's version of events.A spokesperson said: "The fare was paid in full."The foreign secretary and his wife are named as victims in this matter and the driver has been charged with theft."As there is an ongoing legal process, it would be inappropriate to comment further."
