Alex Dunne finishes second in Austrian F2 race, loses standings lead
ALEX DUNNE FINISHED second in Sunday's Formula 2 feature race in Austria. The Offaly man, racing for Rodin Motorsport, started in seventh and worked his way through to finish 1.1 seconds off race winner Richard Verschoor. The result sees Dunne slip to second in the Drivers' Championship, with 108 points to Verschoor's 114. The 19-year-old had held a one-point lead heading into Sunday's race. Advertisement On Friday, Dunne finished fourth in his first ever F1 session at the Austrian Grand Prix as he temporarily deputised for Lando Norris. Dunne will be back in action at the F2 British Grand Prix next weekend.

Alex Dunne podiums in Austria but slips to second in F2 championship drivers' standings
Alex Dunne finished second in the Austrian Grand Prix feature race on Sunday but his Formula 2 title rival Richard Verschoor's victory means the Offaly native slipped down to second in the drivers championship standings. Dunne came into Sunday's race with a narrow one-point lead in the F2 title race after finishing sixth in Saturday's attritional sprint race at the Red Bull Ring. The 19-year-old, who drivers for the Rodin team, started Sunday's race from seventh on the grid but climbed up the order to seal a second place finish. Dutch driver Verschoor, who started third, won the race and as a result moves up to 114 points at the top of the F2 drivers' standings, while Dunne is second on 108. The runner-up finish caps a busy weekend for Dunne, who became the first Irishman to feature in a Formula One grand prix weekend for 22 years when he took part in first practice on Friday. He impressed on the day, setting the fourth fastest time overall, whilst sitting in for Lando Norris, who is currently second in the F1 drivers' championship. Dunne will next turn his attentions to F2's British Grand Prix next weekend, the eigtht round of 14 in the 2025 calendar.

Footage of F2 crash A chaotic three-car crash during an F2 sprint race at the Austrian Grand Prix left one drive upside down after going airborne and flipping over two competitors. No drivers were injured and the race was immediately red flagged. The incident occurred on Lap 2 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria as Trident's Sami Meguetounif tried to make an inside move on Red Bull's Arvid Lindblad in Turn 3. Meguetounif and Lindblad made contact, sending the former's car soaring over the top of Williams' Luke Browning in a terrifying scene before Meguetounif's car came to rest upside down on the track.
