Mounties say they found a wanted hit-and-run driver already in police custody for unrelated charges.
RCMP issued a release looking for a driver in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously hurt a 65-year-old woman on Thursday in Fort McMurray. On Friday, she remained in critical, life-threatening condition.
With the help of public tips and resident surveillance footage, RCMP said they were able to identify the vehicle and the suspected driver, who was later found already in police custody awaiting charges for 'other criminal matters.'
The driver, a 31-year-old Fort McMurray man, has been charged with failure to stop after an accident causing bodily harm.
RCMP did not say what other 'criminal matters' the man is accused of. He remains in custody awaiting a judicial interim hearing.
