Likhona Fose's alleged murderer granted R5,000 bail
The Roodepoort magistrate's court has granted Mduduzi Mnisi, accused of murdering the 14-year-old Likhona Fose, bail of R5,000. The court previously heard Mnisi is allegedly linked to the crime through the statement of only one witness, who allegedly saw the child with him. Fose's mutilated body was discovered at an open veld in Durban Deep, Roodepoort, on June 1. Mnisi was released on parole in December 2018 after he was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment for attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. During the bail application, the investigating officer, Sgt Moses Semosa, testified that an eyewitness had seen the accused going to his place with the deceased on May 31 about 4pm. However, Mnisi denied killing Fose, stating that he did not know the deceased and that his phone records would prove he was in Daveyton to meet his friends, 'Fish' and 'Madiba' at the time. National Prosecuting Authority Johannesburg regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said this alibi was investigated, and his phone was indeed linked to a tower in Daveyton. 'The accused called his girlfriend to give testimony that they were together on the 31st after 7pm and spent the night together, further stating that the accused never left her sight,' Mjonondwane said. She testified that he left on Sunday about 6pm, when he said he was going to see his mother. 'He spent Saturday night with me. We were together the whole of Sunday. He left about 6pm to see his mother,' she testified. Mjonondwane said this was contrary to the analysis of the accused's cellphone records that linked his phone to a tower in Kagiso at 8pm. 'The court also heard evidence from his parole officer, Neo Lakaje, who, upon getting details about Mnisi's phone being Daveyton, told the court that he had violated his parole conditions as he never obtained prior permission to be in another jurisdiction,' she said. Second suspect arrested in the murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose

The City of Joburg Public Safety Department on Wednesday confirmed that another suspect had been handcuffed in the murder case of the 14-year-old. According to the office, the suspect has been identified as a Pakistani national spaza shop owner. New suspect It is understood that the arrest took place following the chaos that erupted earlier when the shop was looted. Another suspect claims to have been instructed by this individual to commit the crime. 'The area is experiencing heightened tensions, with the shop being looted. First suspect Meanwhile, the first suspect, a 39-year-old man charged with the murder of Fose, appeared briefly in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, where his bail application was postponed amid strong opposition from the state. Mduduzi Mnisi faces charges in connection with the death of the Grade 8 pupil from Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville, Johannesburg. Murder Fose's mutilated body was discovered in an empty field on 1 June 2025. The teenager's family believes her murder was motivated by homophobia, as she identified as lesbian. Bail During court proceedings, Mnisi's lawyer revealed that his client has previous convictions for attempted murder and robbery. The defence indicated that Mnisi intends to apply for bail and complained that he was not provided with a bed and a blanket when taken to the Krugersdorp Correctional Centre. The matter has been postponed until 18 June for a formal bail application. State advocate Zanele Chauke confirmed that the prosecution will oppose bail. A family in Gauteng is pleading for the safe return of their 8-year-old daughter. Missing Omphile Sebiloane, a Grade 2C pupil from Shalimar Ridge Primary School, was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Ratanda, Heidelberg, this week. According to the family, Omphile was last seen wearing a pink tracksuit, a maroon top and a black jacket with pyjamas underneath. Fose was last seen after leaving home with friends. A passerby discovered Fose's mutilated body under a shrub in Durban Deep and immediately notified police. The grim discovery came after an intense search by family members, community members, and law enforcement officials following her disappearance on Sunday afternoon. Investigation Deputy Police Minister Dr Polly Boshielo this week says a specialised team has been assigned to lead investigations into the murder of Fose. The minister said the police's occult unit has been roped in to investigate the matter. 'There are two possibilities: It could be that Lukhona was targeted for her sexuality, making it a hate crime, or her body parts were mutilated for muthi purposes. 'Our investigations are ongoing, and maximum resources have been roped in to find those who are behind the killing of this young woman.' Boshielo raised concerns about the attacks and murders of women and children, saying that 'it cannot be business as usual'. Mother and Sangoma Meanwhile, a mother who allegedly sold her two-year-old son to a sangoma for R75,000 will remain behind bars. Keneilwe Shalaba appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Monday, alongside Sebokoana Khoanyana, the man who allegedly bought her child. The boy's body was discovered in a shallow grave last week. Shalaba reported that her child had been kidnapped in November last year. She was arrested three days later after confessing to selling her son to a sangoma, claiming she was not happy with the child's gender. Mourners gather to pay tribute to murdered child, Likhona Fose
Scores of community members of Durban Deep, Roodepoort and anti-GBV organisations came out in their numbers to support the grieving family of 14-year-old Likhona Fose, who was mutilated and killed in the area. Fose, a Grade 8 pupil at Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville, was found dead with her body mutilated in an empty field on Sunday, 1 June 2025, sparking reports of possible muthi and hate crime-related murder. On Thursday, Morero joined scores of mourners, including family, friends, learners from various schools and members of the Johannesburg City Council and MEC for education, Matome Chiloane and other officials who mourned the tragic manner in which the child died. The memorial service held at the Nkone Maruping Primary School in Braamfischerville attracted throngs of sympathisers who decried the scourge of GBVF and other violent crimes against women and children. "Body parts will not make you rich. We want to tell our people that to get rich they must wake up in the morning and work hard. It is painful to lose a child like this. On Wednesday, former Chief of the JMPD, David Tembe, who visited the family indicated that the JMPD and other law enforcement agencies would prioritise police visibility in the area. "This is no longer business as usual. The brutal murder of Likhona Fose has shaken the soul of our city. As the Public Safety leadership, we are declaring war on crime as we will be unleashing every tactical unit on the killers. "We are coming for those who think our children are targets. Johannesburg will not be a playground for criminals. We owe Likhona justice, we owe our people safety and we will deliver, no compromise, no retreat," he stated.

Lukhona Fose's family hopes for arrests soon following her murder
WARNING: THE STORY CONTAINS GRAPHIC DETAILS JOHANNESBURG - Lukhona Fose's family on the West Rand is hoping that police will make arrests soon. Fose was reported missing last Saturday, and a day later her body was discovered by a passer-by in an open veld not far from her Roodepoort home. On Wednesday, City of Johannesburg Speaker Nobuhle Mthembu is expected to visit the family. The community of Durban Deep, where Fose lived and was brutally killed, is still reeling with anger following her death. Fose was found naked from the waist down, with her private area cut off. The occult team, specialising in hate and muti-related crimes, has been roped in to investigate further, because of the state that Fose's body was found in. The Speaker's office said that Wednesday's visit underscored the city's commitment to protecting children and standing firm against the escalating scourge of violence targeting youth, particularly during Child Protection Week.
