USC football countdown to kickoff: Roy Foster in focus

The countdown to USC's 2025 football season is officially on! The Trojans kick off their new campaign 65 days from today. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we take it back to the early 1980s and look at former USC All-American offensive lineman Roy Foster. Position: Offensive line Years played at USC: 1978-1981 Career highlights: Foster earned first-team All-American honors at offensive guard for the Trojans during both the 1980 and 1981 seasons. In 1980, he was the first ever winner of the Morris Trophy, given to the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 Conference. The following year, Foster repeated as the winner, becoming one of just three offensive linemen to win the award twice. After USC: The Miami Dolphins selected Foster with the 24th overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft. He would go on to play 12 seasons in the league—the first nine with Miami and the last three with the San Francisco 49ers. Foster was named to the Pro Bowl following both the 1984 and 1985 seasons.

UK chooses statues and glass bridge design for Queen Elizabeth memorial

A digital illustration shows a statue of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, by Foster + Partners led by British architect Lord Norman Foster, which has been selected as one of the winning entries for the national memorial in St James's Park in London, in this undated handout picture. Image: Foster + Partners/Handout via REUTERS A memorial to honour Queen Elizabeth in London's St James's Park will feature a statue of Britain's longest-reigning monarch on horseback, another of her arm-in-arm with her husband Prince Philip and a glass bridge, the project committee said. Elizabeth II died at her Scottish castle on September 8 2022 after more than seven decades on the throne. She was 96. Her death provoked days of mourning and tributes from around the country and the world. St James's Park, which is located opposite Buckingham Palace, was chosen as the best site to pay tribute to her reign and under the plan announced on Tuesday the park will be reshaped, with two new areas of gardens and two new gates. The committee chose the plans drawn up by Foster + Partners, a firm headed by Norman Foster, one of Britain's most influential architects, who is known for the Gherkin building in London's financial district and the Reichstag dome in Berlin. Foster, 90, knew Elizabeth personally after she appointed him to the Order of Merit for services to architecture in 1997 and he said his idea was to use the site to narrate her legacy and the extraordinary story of her life. The new glass bridge is inspired by the tiara she wore at her wedding while the two gates and two gardens reflect the way Elizabeth balanced tradition and modernity, public duty and private faith, and Britain and the Commonwealth, Foster said. 'It's creating something which is timeless and reaches across all ages and interests and conveys the values of Her Majesty, which were a mixture of the formal and delightful informality,' he told BBC Radio. The design will be finalised by April 2026 and the memorial could be completed one to two years after that, Foster said.

US Footwear Startup Backed By Reebok Co-Founder To Design Shoes In Space

A US footwear company, backed by Reebok co-founder Joe Foster, is planning to design a shoe in space by mid to late 2026 as part of a mission to make artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain less expensive and more eco-friendly than it is on Earth. Florida-based footwear company Syntilay, whose name is based on the word "scintillate", is collaborating with OrbitsEdge, a company that supports AI and blockchain applications, and Copernic Space, which offers digital marketplaces for space assets, to produce the shoe design. The mission is expected to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in early 2026 "Syntilay is announcing an unprecedented mission to design shoes in space! We will be deploying an AI agent on a computer in a satellite that will generate the first shoe design outside of Earth in human history," the company stated. "The first shoes made in space are planned to release in late Q2 2026 for $200! Which will be 3D printed with our preferred production partner Zellerfeld," it added. Syntilay will use AI agents on the satellite to produce the first image of a shoe design from space. If the computer on the satellite doesn't have enough processing power, the company will produce a 2D image. As per Syntilay founder and CEO Ben Weiss, the goal is to have space-designed shoes ready to sell by September 2026 at the latest. "The purpose of this is to push the boundaries of what's possible," Mr Weiss was quoted as saying by "We've heard about making new materials in space and stuff like that, but the average consumer hasn't really benefited from a lot of these innovations yet. We can, I think, incentivise and increase the interest in this category and make it more practical for people, which is something that I think has been missing." "It's, 'How do we find a different way in?' and it was the same when we started Reebok. We were very small. We had to look for what we call white space," said Mr Foster. "White space was somewhere where we could make a difference, where we could be part of it, as against just chasing the big boys. And so this is looking for white space that is actually in space. So what better space can you get?"

Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 73: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 73 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 73 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 73 wearer: OG Isaac Seumalo Seumalo, a Super Bowl champion guard, has been a fantastic addition to the Steelers' offensive line since joining in 2023. In his first season with Pittsburgh, the veteran guard didn't give up a sack. Despite playing on an injury-riddled offensive line during his second season, Seumalo still allowed just two sacks on 468 pass-blocking attempts. He's heading into the final year of his three-year, $24 million deal with Pittsburgh but remains the driving force behind the retooled offensive line. Last five Steelers to wear No. 73: Best No. 73 in Steelers history: OG Ramon Foster Offensive lineman Craig Wolfley deserves an honorable mention, but Foster stands out as the best Steeler to ever wear No. 73. Pittsburgh signed Foster as an undrafted free agent in 2009, and the rest was history — 160 games with 145 starts across an 11-year career in the Black and Gold. He played a key role in keeping the legendary Ben Roethlisberger upright and remains one of the most unsung, underrated guards of his era.
