Man With Metal Neck Chain Killed After Being Sucked Into MRI Machine
If you've ever thought all those 'NO METAL' signs around MRI machines—on doors, walls, and even in the waiting room—seemed a little over the top, here's your proof they're not. Today in Darwinism…a 61-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday after an accident involving an MRI machine at a medical facility on Long Island, according to the Nassau County Police Department. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, New York. Authorities say the man entered the MRI room without authorization while the machine was operating, according to Fox 8. Police reported that the man was wearing a large metal chain around his neck, which triggered a dangerous reaction. The powerful magnetic field of the MRI machine pulled him toward the device, resulting in a severe injury. Fox 8 writes that the man experienced a 'medical episode,' police said, and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. No further details about his condition or the circumstances were immediately released. MRI machines rely on extremely strong magnets to scan the body and produce images of soft tissues. According to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, 'The magnetic field extends beyond the machine and exerts very powerful forces on objects of iron, some steels, and other magnetizable objects; it is strong enough to fling a wheelchair across the room.' No other injuries were reported in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sparks could be seen flying from the wheels of the suspect's vehicle. (Watch in the video player below.) According to police, the chase started in Euclid, reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and lasted about 10 minutes. Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer tells the FOX 8 I-Team that the chase started after a Flock Camera, a license plate recognition camera system, alerted officers that a stolen vehicle was spotted near Hartland Road around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday. The chief said the vehicle was reported stolen during a car jacking in Cleveland on July 5. Street taken over for fireworks; where were police? 'The suspect is a person wanted in a recent carjacking and we take that very seriously,' the chief said. According to Meyer, when the suspect saw the police officer's cruiser, he took off at a high rate of speed. Several Euclid officers tried to get the driver to pull over, but he refused, said Meyer. The suspect was taken into custody. Officials have not yet released his name or charges. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Family dog mauls one-year-old child to death despite mother's best efforts
A helpless mum who tried in vain to stop a dog attack was forced to watch on as the family pit bull mauled her one-year-old daughter to death. Blakely Blosser was killed by the pit bull at her home in Dover, Ohio, on July 2. Her mother Nicole had leaned over in order to pick up some laundry when Blakely was behind her, which led the pet to turn violent. In the single moment Nicole turned her back, the dog growled and jumped at Blakely, biting at the helpless baby several times, including at her throat and face, reports The Mirror. Nicole bravely tried to save her child and sustained bites and cuts as she attempted to pull the dog away from the baby. But the pit bull would not let up and killed little Blakely after biting down on her, according to authorities. Nicole tried to call 911 as she fought off the pit bull, with emergency services stating they could not hear anything when Nicole first called. She managed to get through the second time she called, and told an operator that a dog killed her baby. Emergency services raced to the home with Blakely being pronounced dead shortly after they arrived at the scene. Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell told Fox8: "The mother clearly put up a fight... I'm not sure any of us could imagine doing that. I have children and I can't imagine a worse nightmare." The sheriff said Blakely's dad, Derrick, had not been home during the dog attack, and added the pet had been put down. Before the attack, the pit bull reportedly never tried to attack another person, although it had shown signs of aggression toward other dogs. Prosecutors are now reviewing the situation although no charges are expected to be filed, Fox8 said. An obituary for Blakely said: "Born on May 23, 2024, Blakely brought immeasurable joy, light and love into our lives from the moment she arrived. "With her bright eyes, infectious giggle, deep stare, and fearless, courageous spirit, she touched the hearts of everyone who met her. Her joyful essence shone brightest when she was playing with her brother. Their bond was pure and filled with laughter, offering moments of joy that will forever reverberate in the hearts of our family." A GoFundMe campaign has been organised to support Derrick and Nicole following Blakely's death. As of Thursday morning, the page had raised over $17,000 out of a $20,000 target. All donations will go toward the couple and toward any expenses they may face, including time off work, counselling and memorial services. "No family should have to face something like this alone - and while we cannot take away their pain, we can help lift the burdens that come with it," the GoFundMe said.
