Crash kills 72-year-old bicyclist in Limestone County
Jun. 23—A Limestone County crash Monday morning involving a bicyclist killed a 72-year-old man, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Bill L. Gildersleeve, 72, of Anderson, was fatally injured when the Fragment 6061 bicycle that he was operating was struck by a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a Falkville resident at 7:09 a.m., state troopers said.
After the initial impact, Gildersleeve was thrown from the bicycle and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers. Gildersleeve was not using a helmet at the time of crash, troopers said.
The crash occurred on Alabama 99 near Flanagan Road, approximately 12 miles northwest of Athens
