Quintet of clubs show interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach's Franck Honorat

Rennes and Valencia have joined the race to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Franck Honorat (28), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The duo join Freiburg, Nice and Leeds United in the race to sign the Frenchman. As noted by Fussball Transfers, Foot Mercato's sister site, Borussia Mönchengladbach remain in a strong negotiating position with Honorat tied to the club until 2028. They would have no desire to sell one of their prized assets but with limited transfer funds at the club, an interesting offer could certainly pique their interest. Advertisement Honorat scored five goals and provided nine assists in 21 appearances across all competitions for die Fohlen last season. Since joining the club from Stade Brest in 2023 for €8m, the 28-year-old has enjoyed his time in Germany which has returned 10 goals and 22 assists in 56 games across all competitions. Honorat's market value is estimated at €12m, per Transfermarkt. GGFN | Daniel Pinder

Gladbach lose precious points in draw at St Pauli

Borussia Monchengladbach have lost precious points in the fight for Champions League qualification as they were pegged back in a late 1-1 draw at St Pauli in the Bundesliga. Gladbach broke the deadlock in the final act of the first half on Sunday as Ko Itakura tucked Franck Honorat's corner into the net with a header. Victory would have put Gladbach level on 46 points with Mainz, who currently occupy the last Champions League spot. But the hosts got their deserved equaliser in the 85th minute thanks to Oladapo Afolayan, who smashed home a long-range effort. "We lost so many balls, made so many mistakes - it felt like we could have played on for another 10 hours and we wouldn't have brought anything to the pitch," Gladbach striker Tim Kleindiesnt said. The result meant Gladbach dropped to sixth, two points behind Mainz and in the qualification spot for the Conference League. Socceroo Jackson Irvine's St Pauli remained 15th, four points above the relegation zone. "We'll happily take the point, but we know that we can count ourselves lucky to come away with it against a very strong opponent," coach Gerardo Seoane said. In the late Sunday game, Union Berlin took a important step to avoid relegation with a 1-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg. Union scored their winner in the 63rd through Benedict Hollerbach. The Berlin club are 13th and with a comfortable 11-point gap from the drop zone, while Wolfsburg are five points ahead in 12th. On Friday, leaders Bayern Munich had defeated Augsburg 3-1, but champions Bayer Leverkusen restored the six-point gap with a last-minute 1-0 win at Heidenheim on Saturday.
