Dodgers' Freddie Freeman dishes truth on quad injury concern
The post Dodgers' Freddie Freeman dishes truth on quad injury concern appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the Los Angeles Dodgers attempt to successfully defend their World Series Trophy in 2025, one of the latest concerns in an ever-growing list of issues presented to LA's finest has been the health of Freddie Freeman. Advertisement That's right, as the team still deals with double-digit pitchers on IL, with position players coming and going with all sorts of issues, and a slew of pre-game bullpen sessions, Freeman has been quietly dealing with a quad injury he suffered against the San Diego Padres earlier in the month. While Freeman has been able to largely operate as usual, as he's been a force at the plate all season long, his inability to play unencumbered has some fans wondering if his status could take a turn for the worse as he plays through the issues instead of taking a concerted step back. Discussing the injury with David Vassegh of Dodger Talk, Freeman noted that he's feeling okay now, but is managing the issue. 'Freddie Freeman told me he contiunes to manage his quad issue and said it's looser today than in recent games,' Vassegh said of Freeman. ''It's in a spot that I can play thru it and doesn't effect anything right now…Just trying to manage it.'' Advertisement Just under a year removed from Freeman's shower fall last fall, which cost him time and left him limited on the run to the World Series, learning that the former MVP may again be managing a soft tissue injury during the punishing heat of a summer filled with consequential MLB baseball is yet another tough break for Dave Roberts' club. While Freeman has appeared in all 12 games of the Dodgers so far this month, missing just a few innings due to defensive replacements and in games that were out of reach, he has moved a little slower than most would hope as he attempts to remain an active player at less than 100 percent. For LA's sake, Dodgers fans hope to see Freeman return to full strength before too long, as losing his bat from the lineup could be detrimental in maintaining the first seed in the NL West. Freddie Freeman seals win over Royals with web gem at 1st base
The post Freddie Freeman seals win over Royals with web gem at 1st base appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers relied on their trio of MVP winners to edge out the Kansas City Royals Friday. Reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani led off the game with a home run – his league-high 29th bomb of the season. Ohtani later tied the game with a fifth inning RBI triple before scoring the go-ahead run on a base hit by 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts. Advertisement The score remained 5-4 when the Royals threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning. But the Dodgers got out of a jam thanks to a spectacular defensive play by 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman. LA reliever Tanner Scott was facing rookie right fielder Jac Caglianone with the bases loaded and one out. Caglianone swung at the first pitch he saw, slapping a grounder to second baseman Tommy Edman. Edman flipped the ball to Betts, who stepped on second and fired over to first base where Freeman made an incredible pick on the short hop to complete the game-ending double play. Dodgers' MVPs lead LA to victory Jason Parkhurst-Imagn Images Freeman has cooled off at the plate this month as he deals with a quad injury. After an incredible May, during which he slashed .410/.462/.638 with 4 home runs and 21 RBI, he's down to .182/.258/.227 with no homers and 4 RBI in 23 June games. Advertisement However, he's still batting .305 on the season with an .867 OPS. And Freeman is one of the Dodgers' most important veteran leaders, who always seems to come through in the clutch, evidenced by his MVP-winning World Series performance. Non-former MVP Max Muncy continued his offensive onslaught in the series opener against the Royals. Muncy hit his fourth home run in four games Friday. The Dodgers third baseman has 15 RBI during his four-game power binge. With the victory over Kansas City, the Dodgers extended their winning streak to five straight games. LA has gone 11-2 since the San Francisco Giants moved into a first-place tie in the NL West on June 13. The Dodgers are now 21 games over .500 and have a 6.5 game lead in the division. Ohtani & Muncy homer, but Freeman's glove saves the game
The Dodgers (52-31) and Royals (38-44) fought back-and-forth in the series opener Friday night at Kauffman Stadium, but Freddie Freeman and the Dodgers were able to pick up the 5-4 win. Neither Dustin May nor Kansas City rookie left-hander Noah Cameron were involved in the decision after each going four innings and making exactly 84 pitches. Advertisement All-Star Shohei Ohtani continued his slugging surge with his NL-leading 29th home run and his fourth homer in his last five games. Max Muncy also hit a big home run out of the eight spot, and Freeman literally saved the game with his glove in the bottom of the ninth. Ohtani made a big splash to start the series with a two-strike leadoff home run off a Cameroon changeup into the center field fountains 429 feet away. A Royal Rally Kansas City came right back to tie it in the first to snap their scoreless drought. Dustin May's sweeper wasn't sharp to start the game, and he labored through 30 pitches in the first inning. May allowed three straight two-out base runners, but KC was only able to get one run off a Salvador Perez RBI single. Bat Drops and Big Flies Max Muncy took Cameron deep for a two-run home run out of the eighth spot in the lineup in the top of the second to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Royal Rally Resumes May continued to struggle with his command in the second inning, and Teoscar Hernández misplayed a ball in right field that proved costly. The poor pitching and defense led to a go-ahead Bobby Witt Jr. two-run homer to give the Royals a 4-3 lead. Advertisement The Dodgers got Hernandez to third base with two outs in the third for slumping Freddie Freeman who struck out for the second time against Cameron. America's Catcher Will Smith casually threw out Freddy Fermin at second base with one out in the bottom of the fourth which proved key. Kyle Isbel doubled for the second time in the game against May, but the Royals had nothing to cash in after Smith wiped the bases clean with his arm. Kauffman Stadium Can't Contain Ohtani Ohtani's RBI triple to the gap in the fifth tied the game at four runs apiece and chased the rookie southpaw Cameron from the game. Mookie Betts jumped on the first pitch he saw from Kansas City reliever Steven Cruz to drive in Ohtani for the lead. Advertisement Luis García took over for May in the fifth for the Dodgers who had to go to their bullpen early again. The Dodgers hadn't used García out of the bullpen since May 27. García walked Salvador Perez and gave up a base hit to top prospect Jac Caglianone, but he was able to escape the inning without coughing up any runs. Banda's Big Strikeout The Royals started a rally again in the seventh, but Anthony Banda came up with a huge Jac Caglianone strikeout to strand two runners and hold on to the one-run lead. Alex Vesia pitched a scoreless eighth despite having some words for the home plate umpire's strike zone in the inning. Advertisement It was up to Tanner Scott to retire ninth inning leadoff hitter Witt Jr. Vesia was annoyed with Alex Tosi, the home plate ump, in the previous frame. Tosi made up for it with a questionable called third strike on Witt Jr. for a big first out. Maikel Garcia singled, and Vinnie Pasquantino drew a walk against Scott. For the second time tonight, a ball dropped in the middle of no-man's land in shallow right field to load the bases. Freddie's Glove Saves Freeman might be in one of the worst offensive slumps of his career right now, but he saved the game for the Dodgers with his glove. Caglianone grounded into a double play that was completed with an incredible pick at first base. Dodgers and Ohtani hand Royals record-tying 11th straight home loss
Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff homer and added a game-tying RBI triple as the Los Angeles Dodgers won their fifth straight, edging the host Kansas City Royals 5-4 on Friday night. The Royals matched a club-record 11-game home losing streak. Ohtani, who was named to the All-Star Game a day earlier, sent an enticing 1-2 changeup from Noah Cameron (2-4) into the right field fountains for his 29th homer of the year — and 12th in 28 games against the Royals in his career. However, Kansas City led 4-3 entering the fifth, when Ohtani victimized Cameron again. After Enrique Hernandez walked to open the inning, Ohtani found the right field gap for a triple that evened the contest. Steven Cruz entered and promptly gave up an RBI single to Mookie Betts — the Dodgers' fourth and final hit, but enough for their ninth win in 11 games. The Royals loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Tanner Scott (18 saves), who got rookie Jac Caglianone to ground into a first-pitch 4-6-3 game-ending double play, capped by Freddie Freeman's stellar pick at first base. Kansas City is 0-11 at home in June, equaling the team's longest such slide set in 2023. Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer and Kyle Isbel doubled twice, but the Royals dropped their sixth straight overall. Down 1-0, Kansas City answered in the bottom of the first. Maikel Garcia roped a two-out double and eventually scored on Salvador Perez's single to left. The Dodgers regained the lead with their own two-out magic in the second. With a man on, Max Muncy jumped on another Cameron pitch that went over the center field wall for a 3-1 edge. The Royals made Los Angeles starter Dustin May work more in the bottom of the second. John Rave walked, stole second, went to third on Freddy Fermin's grounder and scored on Isbel's double that right fielder Teoscar Hernandez appeared to misread. Witt followed by clearing the left-center field wall to put Kansas City ahead by one. Cameron yielded just three hits, but three walks and all five runs over a career-low four-plus innings in his ninth start. May, meanwhile, lasted four, allowing those four runs and six hits. Lou Trivino (3-0) pitched 1⅔ innings for the win.
