Samsung 4K TV that offers 'stunning picture quality' drops from £349 to £280 in Prime Day sale
'This TV exceeded my expectations for the money, would highly recommend.' For those who are looking to upgrade their TV to a smart model or are wanting to add another TV into their home, now is the best time to grab a new TV for a bargain price. With Amazon currently holding its four-day long Prime Day event, shoppers will be able to save a decent amount of money on their purchase. Smart TVs are becoming widely popular as they have all of your favourite streaming and catch-up services at your fingertips. With easy to use homepages and endless amounts of content to watch, shoppers will be spoilt for choice of what to watch when they plop themselves in front of the TV after a busy day. One such TV in the Prime Day sale is the Samsung DU8070 Crystal UHD 4K 50" Smart TV. Normally retailing for £349, shoppers can now snatch up this 50-inch TV for £279.98, saving shoppers around £70 on their purchase. For those wanting an immersive viewing experience, this Samsung Smart TV comes with dynamic crystal colour which is said to make everything your watch come to life in over a billion colours. The TV also comes with a powerful 4K processor, which allows users to enhance and upgrade their picture and sound quality. Boasting a sleek and slim design, this TV won't overpower the room and will provide a comfortable viewing experience from any angle. Shoppers will also have endless content to watch as the TV provides access to 4K films, TV shows, catch up apps and streaming services, including Apple TV, BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Disney+. This TV is also perfect for those who enjoy gaming as there are a variety of apps available. Shoppers will be able to play the latest games from Xbox, Blacknut, Nvidia and more straight from the TV. Another popular TV that has been given a Prime Day reduction is the Hisense 43 Inch 4K QLED Smart T V. Normally retailing for £259, shoppers can now buy it for £40 cheaper at £219. Supporting a variety of streaming apps, including Freely, this TV is equipped with Dolby Vision and Atmos, as well as Quantum Dot Technology. Alternatively, Argos is selling the Toshiba 43 Inch Smart FHD HDR10 Freeview TV for £179. Able to be controlled by Alexa, shoppers will be able to find their latest binge watch or newest film release with only their voice instead of endlessly scrolling. Back to the Samsung Smart TV, shoppers have given this 2024 device a 4.5 star rating. Many shoppers were pleasantly surprised by the picture quality of this TV, however some advised buying a soundbar to help achieve better sound. One happy shopper said: "What a TV... Looks fabulous in my lounge. I can control this TV with my mobile as well. Also the best price on Amazon in compare to other platforms and stores." With another five-star review adding: "Very happy with this TV, much better than older 'Crystal' versions I've had. Picture is comparable to my QLED and the unit is very sleek! Some reviews question the sound quality, but to be fair for such a slim TV I was quite happy with it. Yes the bass isn't exactly there, but the sound is clear full." However a few shoppers had some gripes about the TV, as one person said: "Very good picture not bad sound but I bought a soundbar to get a better sound, overall I'm happy with the TV." While another reviewer noted: "The TV itself is really good. I've only marked it down because the legs were quite tricky to get in to place." One the flip side, a top reviewer wrote: "I'm thoroughly impressed with the Samsung 4K TV. The picture quality is simply stunning, with vibrant colors, sharp details, and deep contrast. Watching movies or playing games feels immersive, and the 4K resolution really makes everything pop, even when streaming content. "The HDR performance enhances the experience even further, especially for action-packed or visually rich scenes." While a sixth shopper added: "Really impressed this TV exceeded my expectations for the money would highly recommend - easy to set up and use." For most programmes we watch on TV, such as soaps or the latest dramas, a slight delay isn't an issue. But when it comes to sport, every second matters - and the last thing you want to hear is the local pub roaring at a goal, or a friend texting you about a result, before you've seen it. Sky has been making significant progress on addressing this for its streamed TV products like Sky Glass, bringing the delay down to 22 seconds. With Freeview's streamed successor Freely other broadcasters will have to think about how they can address the problem on their channels. Fortunately, it's an issue the BBC is now tackling on iPlayer. The corporation has started a test for some viewers, depending on the device they're streaming from. "The delay on iPlayer has reduced significantly in recent times but is still around 40 seconds," the BBC explained in a blog post. "Many streaming services today have similar delays. On our broadcast services the end to end delay is just 8-10 seconds - a significant difference. BBC iPlayer rivals Sky TV with a vital free upgrade - check your settings now
The BBC is finally offering a boost that Sky customers have enjoyed for a while. Millions of UK homes continue to switch over to streaming content online rather than using traditional methods such as a TV aerial or satellite dish. Recent stats from Sky show that its Glass TV and Stream Box (which are both powered by broadband) make up the majority of new sales, and there's now the recent arrival of Freely as well, which offers live TV via the internet. With endless hours of content to watch, along with its ease of use and simple DIY installation, it's no surprise that the streaming revolution shows no signs of slowing. However, if you've ever tried to watch live sport, you'll know there is one very annoying issue. Services such as BBC iPlayer have a delay which can be up to 30-40 seconds. That's no issues when watching a quiz show or a movie, but it's a nightmare when tuning into football, rugby or tennis action. When something major happens during a match, those texts arriving from friends and family, or the roar from the neighbours can ruin things when your TV is so far behind. It's something Sky has already begun fixing with a new update to its streaming devices, now cutting the latency down to just a few seconds. Now, in a bid to match its rival, the BBC has confirmed that it is working on something very similar. "The delay on iPlayer has reduced significantly in recent times but is still around 40 seconds," the BBC explained. "Many streaming services today have similar delays. On our broadcast services the end to end delay is just 8-10 seconds - a significant difference. "For some content, viewers may not notice, but for live sport and for live events with a social media following, delays can detract from the viewing experience. "We are aiming to address these delays whilst maintaining a high quality of experience through our work on 'low latency streaming'." This change is currently in development with the BBC saying that it is offering iPlayer users the chance to test it out before an official release. Homes with 3rd and 2nd generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, along with owners of Samsung's CU8000 and CU8500 TVs can head to their settings and switch on the iPlayer Beta experience. This test version will then show streams with less lag. The BBC says that the initial trial will run on BBC Two between 9am and 5pm for viewers who have enabled 'iPlayer beta' in settings and have set their location to England or Scotland. "This trial is to help us understand how well low latency streaming can cope with the real world performance of our viewers' internet connections. We are starting small but hope to expand the trial as we gain confidence in its performance," the BBC added.

Completely free streaming service rivalling Sky now available on more TVs
A streaming app that's been touted as a rival to Sky Glass will soon be available on more smart TVs. First launched in April last year, Freely is a relatively new free streaming service backed by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, and gives users the ability to stream live and on-demand TV all in one place, without paying a subscription fee. It's similar to Sky Glass, which also lets viewers tune into hundreds of live and on-demand channels via a broadband connection, rather than an aerial. Viewers can pause and rewind live TV with the app too. While Sky Glass TV owners have to pay a minimum of £26 per month for content, Freely is, as the name suggests, completely free. Sky Glass does offer premium features that viewers won't find on Freely, however, such as personalisation for each member of the family, as well as the ability to 'bookmark' favourite shows. But now it's been announced that TVs powered by technology company Roku will have Freely installed, which includes models from brands including JVC, Logik, Sharp, METZ and Polaroid. Meanwhile, Hisense, Bush, Panasonic and Toshiba already sell TVs with the Freely app. Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, said of the news: 'Offering freely on the Roku operating system is a major milestone for us, as we continue to expand reach for the free streaming platform. 'We're delighted that as a huge global player, Roku has recognised the importance of easy and seamless access to public service broadcast content for UK audiences and I look forward to seeing Freely smart TVs with Roku in market this summer.' Freely replicates the terrestrial TV experience of browsing through a programme guide, meaning viewers can enjoy offerings from BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Film4, 5USA, U, Dave and many more. This includes classic favourites such as Race Across the World, Downton Abbey, Derry Girls and Gogglebox. Meanwhile, popular new shows that have landed recently include Death Valley, a cosy crime drama starring Timothy Spall, season two of BBC hit drama The Gold and The Secrets She Keeps, a gripping Australian thriller now available via Channel 4. Earlier this year, Freely announced the launch of 16 new channels, including three Channel 4 channels that viewers 'won't find anywhere else'. 4Reality will feature reality TV gold like Married at First Sight, while 4Homes will offer dream homes, renovations and design inspiration with shows like Grand Designs. The channel 4Life will bring travel, food and animals to screens with shows like The Dog House. There are 11 new Channel 5 live channels that were also added, including Police Interceptors, 5 Cops and Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly. More Trending Six of these are exclusive to Freely and My5, including The Yorkshire Vet, GPs Behind Closed Doors and Milkshake. Freely has also recently launched two ITV channels called The Chase and Saturday Night Every Night, which are also available on ITVX. Akhila Khanna, ITV Director of Distribution, said at the time: 'At ITV we're proud to be part of Freely and making these channels available to the Freely TV Guide reinforces our commitment to delivering fantastic, free content through this innovative platform and showcases our continued collaboration with other leading UK broadcasters.'
