Nour Al-Waili's debut solo exhibition Number 9 opens at French Institute in Baghdad
Baghdad ( – The French Institute in Iraq – Baghdad is currently hosting Number 9 (الرقم ٩), the first solo exhibition by promising Iraqi visual artist Nour Al-Waili. The exhibition opened on May 22, 2025, and will run for two weeks, offering a unique window into the artist's creative evolution. Number 9 invites visitors to explore Al-Waili's artistic journey through nine distinct paintings and nine intricate collage works. These pieces are said to reflect a decade of her personal and creative development, presenting the world through her honest, spontaneous, realistic, and unfiltered perspective. The French Institute in Iraq – Baghdad, known for promoting French culture and fostering Franco-Iraqi artistic exchange, provides a prestigious platform for Al-Waili's debut. French Institute in Baghdad to host 'Through Their Eyes,' first all-female Iraqi photo exhibition
Baghdad ( – The French Institute in Iraq – Baghdad is set to host a groundbreaking photography exhibition titled 'Through Their Eyes: The First Steps' (بعُيونهن: الخطوات الأولى), the first all-female photo showcase organized in partnership with the Iraqi Female Photographers (IFP) group. This unique event aims to present the world as seen through the 'honest, spontaneous, realistic, and unfiltered' perspectives of Iraqi women. The collection is the powerful outcome of an artistic photography workshop conducted by renowned British photographer Emily Garthwaite. The workshop brought together 25 talented Iraqi women from diverse regions across the country, nurturing their skills and encouraging their unique voices. The exhibition's official opening will take place on Thursday, May 8th, at 6:00 PM, and will be honored by the presence of the French Ambassador for Human Rights, Ms. Isabelle Rome, underscoring the event's cultural and social significance. 'Through Their Eyes' offers more than just striking images; it's a celebration of emerging female talent in Iraq and a platform for diverse narratives that enrich the country's artistic landscape.
