Overrated Travel Spots According To Real Tourists

Whether you like to travel to another country, eat out at a nice restaurant, or simply go out, I'm sure there is a place that you've heard all the buzz about, then you went, and said, "meh." On the always social subreddit r/AskReddit, Reddit user u/Otherwise-Bit-8679 asked people to name a place that is not as good as everyone says it is. The results will surely get people who are from there very upset: "Dubai. Dreadful place. One gigantic shopping mall in the desert. Tacky, soulless, and unbearably hot." "Bondi Beach. There are few beaches in Australia worse than Bondi." "Times Square. It's flashy, sure, but the crowds, prices, and sensory overload make it more stress than fun." "Las Vegas." "Myrtle Beach. It's just brownish gray water. The Caribbean is a much better experience." "Japan. I lived there for years and it's amazing, but I see too many posts absolutely glazing it." "Bourbon Street. Tourists come to New Orleans—and that's great—but they complain that the city smells like stale beer and vomit. It doesn't, but Bourbon does. For me, the smell of the French Quarter is sweet olive and jasmine, coffee, and a faint scent of bleach from the early-morning cleaning of the bars. It's a magical place; don't sour your experience of it by walking down that shithole street at night, especially on holidays. There are two places worth visiting on Bourbon, Fritzel's and Galatoire's." "Aspen. It's scenic, but the people are garbage. One of the coolest concert venues, but it's full of jerks hitting on women and picking fights. Great restaurants, but it's just a 'who knows who' contest. And everything is insanely expensive and geared toward the wealthy. Just becoming a shitty billionaire show-and-tell contest." "Miami. Its a sh*thole of crime and drugs." "Rio. While the old, historic part of the city had some appeal, overall, the best part of it was flying over it. It reeked of open sewer from the airport into town. The beach at Copacabana was so disgusting, I couldn't imagine people using it. You had to be so overtly careful; it wasn't fun. Other parts of Brazil are much better." "Nashville." "Disneyland. Overpriced, overcrowded, and people there are just Give me a decent pub and a pint any day." "I thought the Rockies would be rockier than this! That John Denver's a f*ckin' liar." "Bali. Dirty, crowded, and full of foreigners." "All of Florida. It stinks." "Atlantic City, NJ. Gotta drive through hooker land just to get there. Then there are so many tweakers outside every attraction." "Long Island beaches. The sand is dirty, and you can't see past your ankles in the water." "Gotta be the United States" "Venice. It's disgusting and smelly, especially when it rains, and just looks decrepit." "The Galapagos. The main island is a tourist trap, and you can't see any of the good parts without paying through the nose for a cruise that is authorized to go to said good parts. The best inhabited island is San Cristobal, easily. The other inhabited island, San Isabel, is kind of a shanty town." "Texas. Big, flat, and the worst combination of heat and humidity. It's like a live-action remake of Wall-E with triple-digit heat." "The zoo. You think, as a kid, it's magical, then once you become an adult, it's honestly depressing." And finally, "Earth."
