Mercedes GLC 400 4MATIC EV teased ahead of launch. Here's what to expect

Officially dubbed the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology, the new model follows the naming direction seen on the electric G-Class. Check Offers Mercedes-Benz is stepping up its electric vehicle push with the upcoming launch of the all-electric GLC. Set to break cover at the 2025 Munich Auto Show, the EV SUV is currently undergoing road tests — and it's already revealing some telling details. Officially dubbed the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology, the new model follows the naming direction seen on the electric G-Class. Despite its mouthful of a name, this GLC sticks to what Mercedes knows best — combining everyday usability with new-age electric hardware. Unlike past models that wore standalone EQ branding, this SUV positioned itself as an electric version of the existing combustion GLC, not a radical departure. Also Read : Mercedes-Benz GLS AMG Line launched at ₹ 1.4 crore Fast charging and flexible infrastructure One of the GLC EV's standout capabilities is its high-speed charging. The vehicle is claimed to add up to 260 km of range in 10 minutes, enabled by a peak charging rate above 320 kW. That's not only fast by current standards, but also aimed at easing real-world EV usability concerns. Adding to its versatility is an integrated converter that allows the 800V architecture to charge from 400V public stations — a practical advantage the newer CLA EV initially lacked. Mercedes seems to be learning from its own rollout missteps and refining the approach as its EV lineup matures. Practical design and real-world usability While Mercedes is keeping performance figures under wraps for now, CEO Ola Kallenius hinted at aggressive acceleration reminiscent of the AMG GT, suggesting the GLC EV may be quicker than expected for its segment. However, it's not all about speed. The GLC 400 4MATIC will also offer a towing capacity of 2,400 kg, beating out rivals like the Porsche Macan Electric. That makes it one of the few electric SUVs balancing performance with proper load-carrying muscle. Also watch: Mercedes Benz GLC 2023: First drive review More room inside, optional ride tech Interior space is expected to improve with a longer wheelbase and larger boot than the ICE-powered GLC. A small frunk adds extra utility. Mercedes also confirms that features like air suspension and rear-axle steering will be available via an optional package, positioning the GLC for a comfortable yet agile driving experience. Styling with a retro touch Interestingly, the GLC EV won't go for futuristic minimalism. Mercedes hints at a front-end design inspired by classic models like the 300SEL 6.3 — especially in the grille's proportions. It's a subtle nod to the past, wrapped in tomorrow's tech. As the Munich debut approaches, the electric GLC appears to be shaping up not as a radical concept, but as a mature, usable and practical EV aimed squarely at the mainstream premium SUV market. BMW Vs. Mercedes U.S. Sales Race: There's A Clear Leader In 2025

With the first half of the year behind us, we have a clearer idea of which manufacturers are leading the 2025 sales race and which ones are struggling. In the luxury segment, we already know that BMW is crushing Audi; the former sold twice as many cars as its rival in the first six months. But what about Mercedes-Benz? We've had to wait a bit longer for Mercedes to post sales, but now it has. While it is performing much better than Audi, Mercedes sales are down in the United States relative to last year, and it's some way off of BMW's numbers. Let's take a closer look. Related: BMW Is Crushing Audi in U.S. Sales This Year In the USA alone, Mercedes has sold 142,000 cars in the first half of the year, a drop of 6% year-on-year. By comparison, BMW sold 178,499 units and saw a 1.6% increase in sales over the same period. Audi is in a distant third spot, notching up 81,951 units, a drop of 12%. BMW, therefore, is the only one of the three that has been able to grow this year. In terms of van sales in the USA, Mercedes has sold 15,700 of those so far in 2025, a massive 42% drop. "Overall, we see good customer demand in the U.S. and Germany for our products including our Top-End vehicles, despite tariffs impacting our global sales in the second quarter," said Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes Benz Group AG. Marketing & Sales. It was a better Q2 for Mercedes USA, though, with 74,600 cars sold, an increase of 11% compared to Q1 2025. Unlike BMW and Audi, Mercedes-Benz does not report individual sales per model. The brand only provides broader insights and sales figures, so a direct comparison with its rivals is tricky. The manufacturer pointed out that demand for its top-end models was strong, but did not go into more detail about how much each model sold. This segment includes models like the Mercedes-Maybach S, S-Class, EQS, G-Class, EQS SUV, and high-performance Mercedes-AMG models. Competing models from BMW, such as the 7 Series and X7, are both up in sales in 2025. Mercedes' top-selling car globally is still the GLC, while its stylish new CLE is selling strongly globally, too. Plug-in hybrid sales were up 34% globally in Q2, and in Europe, the share of electrified models hit 40%. Still, Mercedes is 36,499 models adrift of BMW in the first six months in the USA, and at this rate, it's unlikely to steal the luxury crown back from BMW. A lot can happen in six months, though, so we'll keep on eye on how these brands weather the tariff storm. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Mercedes-Benz quarterly sales dip

Mercedes-Benz Group has reported a 9% decrease in sales for the second quarter (Q2), selling 547,100 cars and vans, despite - what it said is strong customer demand and electric vehicle (EV) growth. The company said underlying customer demand for Mercedes-Benz Cars remained robust, particularly in the US and Germany, with (retail) deliveries rising by 26% and 7% respectively. The company said it managed deliveries to dealerships to navigate new global tariff policies, which notably affected its overall sales in the US (-12%) and China (-19%). Mercedes-Benz Cars experienced a 9% decline in sales during Q2, with 453,700 cars sold. Mercedes said 'Top-End' accounted for 14.3% of overall sales, with deliveries to customers up by 5%, reaching 69,000 units, fuelled by a 19% increase in Mercedes-AMG vehicles and a 56% rise in G-Class sales. The GLC model maintained its position as the top-selling car globally in the first half of 2025, with sales rising by 9% in Q2. The new CLE model saw a 30% increase in Q2 sales and a 66% rise in the first half of the year. Plug-in-hybrid sales globally increased by 34% in Q2, with electrified vehicles (xEVs) accounting for 40% of sales in Europe and 21% globally during the quarter. Mercedes-Benz is embarking on a multi-year product and technology launch campaign starting in 2025, with the introduction of the all-new CLA in Europe and further model releases planned throughout the year. The all-new electric GLC is set to be unveiled in September, bolstering the company's electric vehicle portfolio in the mid-size segment. Customer deliveries increased by 18% this quarter, with German retail sales up by 27% due to 'strong' demand. Mercedes-Benz Vans sold 93,400 units in Q2, with a 32% year-on-year rise in eVans sales, contributing to 7% of overall sales and 10% of European sales. Mercedes-Benz Vans also secured the largest single order of eVans to date, with 5,000 electric vans to be delivered to Amazon's transportation network. Commercial segment sales represented 82% of total sales in the first half of the year, highlighting the importance of commercial vans. Private vans accounted for 18% of sales. Mercedes Benz Group board of management member Mathias Geisen said: 'Overall, we see good customer demand in the U.S. and Germany for our products including our Top-End vehicles, despite tariffs impacting our global sales in the second quarter. 'In China, in a highly competitive environment, we could keep the number one position in the Top-End luxury segment in the first half of the year. The all-new CLA received very positive feedback.' Last month, Mercedes-Benz initiated a new phase in automotive manufacturing with the start of the new CLA model's production at the Rastatt plant in Germany. Mercedes-Benz's electrified G-Wagon unveiled in Malaysia, prices start at RM959,000

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has introduced the all-new G 580 with EQ Technology, marking a bold step for the iconic G-Class as it enters the era of electric mobility. Among its standout innovations, the G 580 features individual-wheel drive - the first for any mass-produced Mercedes-Benz model - with four motors delivering a combined 432 kilowatts (kW) or 587 horsepower and 1,164 newton-metres of torque. This setup enables advanced off-road functions such as G-Turn, allowing the vehicle to rotate on the spot, and G-Steering, which reduces the turning circle on loose surfaces, along with an intelligent crawl function for precise control over rough terrain. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia chief executive officer and president Amanda Zhang said the all-new electric G-Class reimagines an icon while staying true to the values that define the German brand. "As we advance toward our ambition to achieve a carbon-neutral new car fleet along the entire value chain by 2039, this marks an important milestone in our journey to lead the transformation of the luxury automotive landscape," she said at the launch here today. Zhang also highlighted that the G 580 is designed for those who want an uncompromised electric off-road experience. Acceleration from 0-100 kilometres per hour (km/h) is achieved in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed limited to 180 km/h. The sport utility vehicle offers a range of up to 473 kilometres according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure, powered by a 116 kilowatt-hour battery. This is supported by 200 kW direct current (DC) fast charging, which can bring the battery from 10-80 per cent in around 32 minutes. Vice president of marketing and sales Nadia Trimmel said with the all-new G 580, the company offers a fully electric off-road experience without compromise. "We have already seen a huge positive response locally, particularly as the G 580 is priced at about half the cost of an AMG G 63. "Globally, the G-Class registered its highest-ever sales in the fourth quarter last year, with double-digit growth continuing in the first quarter this year following the introduction of the G 580," she said. The G 580 comes with a standard four-year vehicle warranty and a 10-year battery warranty. Buyers will receive a complimentary wallbox package with installation or a charging-ready package valued at RM6,500. Priced from RM958,888, this fully electric SUV blends classic design with groundbreaking technology, while an exclusive Edition One variant starts from RM998,888. The Edition One variant features exclusive blue accents inside and out, blue carbon-fibre trim elements, and special Manufaktur touches. Both models maintain the G-Class's signature angular design, enhanced with features such as a black-panel grille, transparent bonnet camera view, and a rectangular rear design box for storing charging cables.

Mercedes-Benz Offers Fans the Ultimate Off-Road G-Wagen Experience

The Mercedes G-Wagon has a loyal following, and since 2020, Mercedes-Benz has been offering the most dedicated and passionate G-Class enthusiasts a unique, action-packed program featuring their favorite boxy 4x4s. At the G‑Class Experience Center near its factory in Graz, Austria, fans can experience what it's like to drive a G-Wagon in situations other than traversing city streets, daily commutes, mall parking lots, and the valet areas behind velvet ropes at high-end restaurants. Mercedes is more than eager to show its loyal fans what the G-Wagon is capable of at the absolute limit, whether it be on extreme slopes of up to 35 degrees, experiencing one-wheel traction, deep mud, or on the infamous Iron Schöckl's 100% gradient. Since Mercedes introduced the experience in 2020, eager fans worldwide were quick to fill every slot when it offered the experience every year. However, this year, Mercedes‑Benz is expanding its fan-favorite G‑Class customer programs with new challenges and more unique experiences. This year, Mercedes is offering loyal fans of the G-Class SUV the chance to have some new experiences related to their favorite boxy off-roader, including the opportunity to embark on a curated adventure that shows the luxury 4x4's capabilities in a challenging new environment. These new G-Class-related experiences are the first to take place away from the G‑Class Experience Center in Graz. Dubbed the G‑Class Expedition Desert Edition, 20 enthusiasts in various G-Class vehicles will trek across the mountains and deserts of Morocco over the course of five days. In essence, Mercedes is offering an off-roading luxury summer camp centered around the G-Wagon, which kicks off with a welcome dinner and a night at a 5-star hotel in Marrakech before setting off on a 504-mile (811 km) off-road journey across Morocco the next morning. Here, drivers will rock across the stunning Atlas Mountains, where they'll climb up to 9,186 feet (2,800 meters), traversing scenic passes, rocky trails, water crossings, and the kind of rugged terrain that G-Classes are made for. After a night at a hotel near Dades, drivers continue the trip on the Anti-Atlas range toward the Merzouga Desert. Enthusiasts will get to eat lunch at Gara Medouar, a crater made famous by the James Bond film Spectre, before heading off to a private desert camp in time for a spectacular sunset over the dunes. On day four, it's full desert mode. Guests will drive as part of convoys while they play in the sand and eat each other's dust. The journey wraps up in Errachidia with a charter flight back to Marrakech and a final farewell dinner to cap off this wild off-road escape. In addition to the Morocco experience, this year, Mercedes is offering G-Class fans an extended and more challenging version of the G‑Class Experience. Dubbed the 'Private Coaching' package, G-Wagon fans get an extended look at what makes the legendary off-roader over the course of two days. After spending a night at a hotel in Graz following the usual G-Class experience program, drivers will get to experience the legendary Schöckl test track. For the first time, drivers will tackle the nearly 3.5-mile (5.6 km), 4,470-feet-high (1,445 meters) course that's been putting every G-Class through its paces for over 40 years alongside dedicated instructors. Mercedes calls it the Nurburgring Nordschleife for off-readers, where full-on thrills can be found when the asphalt gives way to gravel, then nothing but raw terrain. Drivers will navigate their G-Wagons on 60% gradients, 40% inclines, knee-high ledges on one or two wheels, deep ruts, hollow paths, and will even have to squeeze past massive trees and sheer drops. According to Mercedes-Benz, these events will only be around for a limited time and won't be cheap. The two-day 'Private Coaching' G-Class Experience is only available until November and will cost 9,950 euros (~$11,465) for two people. It includes two nights with breakfast at a partner hotel in Graz, "culinary highlights" at the G‑Class Experience Center, and a welcome dinner in Graz's city centre. For the Mercedes-Benz Morocco Trip, just six events are planned from October to November. The cost is 14,990 euros (~$17,283) per spot, which includes five nights of accommodation, meals, and a charter flight from Errachidia to Marrakech. Mercedes is going all-out when it comes to giving its fans a taste of what the brand is about. It goes beyond a booth at an auto show, a brand activation, or a pop-up; granted, you do have to pay a hefty penny to experience these things. Perhaps this could open up opportunities for Mercedes to conduct a "world tour" and allow fans to experience the G-Wagon in different environments around the globe. For instance, I'd like to see a G-Wagon drive near the Arctic Circle, but I guess it all depends on the proximity to a decent hotel. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
