Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley pays tribute to boyfriend Michael Breen after Tipperary win

The champion runner was among those wearing the blue and gold jersey cheering on Tipperary after the Premier County won the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final at Croke Park in Dublin yesterday. In a post on social media, the sprinter from Newport in west Tipperary posted a picture of the couple holding the Liam MacCarthy Cup. "Proud of you every day, but that little bit prouder today,' she wrote on Instagram, also sharing a heartwarming photo of the pair hugging each other. The pair hit the headlines earlier this month when they were pictured kissing after Tipperary beat Kilkenny in the All-Ireland semi-finals. They did a 'hard launch' of their romance on May 18, following Tipperary's win against Waterford in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. The Olympian athlete shared a photo of herself and Breen from the pitch in their matching county colours, captioning it 'Tippin' on'. She suffered heartache just last month following the sudden death of her father, Thomas 'Tucker' Mawdsley, on June 3, at the age of 67. The runner returned to the track just a few weeks later when a last-minute decision to compete saw her finishing third in the Women's 400m at the European Team Championships in Slovenia. Achieving a season's best, she dedicated her bronze medal win to her father. Tipperary's defender Michael Breen (31), also plays for Tipperary Senior Championships club Ballina. His hurling career started at his home town of Ballina on the Limerick border, where he joined his local club at an early age. Breen made his senior championship debut as a substitute in the 2015 Munster semi-final against Limerick. He was nominated for All-Star awards at midfield in 2016 and 2020 and won an InterProvincial hurling medal with Munster in 2016. The hurler also posted a picture on Instagram with his teammates holding a trophy after Tipperary's victory. "Liam is coming home,' he captioned the post. Cruel Cork memes surface after All-Ireland collapse

Cruel Cork memes have swept across the internet after the Rebels blew a six-point lead at half time in the All-Ireland final. Heading into the final, Cork were heavy favourites after demolishing Dublin in the semis and scoring seven goals in the process. However, despite a strong first half that saw the Munster champions taking a comfortable lead, Tipperary staged a stunning comeback that left the Rebels, and those watching across the country, in a state of disbelief. 20 July 2025; Niall O'Leary of Cork after his side's defeat in the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final match between Cork and Tipperary at Croke Park in Dublin. The Premier county rinsed Cork in the second half, eventually winning by a margin of 3-27 to 1-18, securing their 29th title in front of a packed crowd. Cork, chasing their first All-Ireland since 2005, managed just two points in the second half after scoring 1-16 in the first 35. Tipperary, revitalised and ruthless after the break, took full advantage of Cork's collective collapse, eventually winning by a jarring 15-point margin. 20 July 2025; Darragh McCarthy of Tipperary celebrates during the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final match between Cork and Tipperary at Croke Park in Dublin. Photo by Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile Cork's disaster-class went from bad to worse when Eoin Downey received a second yellow card in the 53rd minute. Cork were down a man and a Tipp penalty was coolly converted by teenage sensation Darragh McCarthy. That goal gave Tipp their first lead, and from there, they never looked back. McCarthy, still only 19, finished with 1-13 and was instrumental in dismantling what little resistance Cork could muster. 20 July 2025; Conor Stakelum of Tipperary in action against Declan Dalton of Cork during the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship final match between Cork and Tipperary at Croke Park in Dublin. Unexpected swerve as Cork man wins Cavan's All-Ireland Final tickets draw

Jonathan Browne 18/07/2025 This Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final between Cork and Tipperary has been the hottest ticket in Ireland this week. For Cork it's a chance to redeem themselves after heartbreakingly losing the final last year to fellow Munster rivals Clare while for Tipperary it's their first final since 2019. It's the first time the two Munster counties have faced off in the final and getting tickets for the occasion have been as rare as hen's teeth. As we know getting tickets for the All-Ireland Final isn't just as simple as logging onto Ticketmaster and purchasing them. It can be a game of 'who you know?' as its the county boards that distribute the tickets and it's always difficult top attend the showcase event at Croke Park. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-final match between Cork and Dublin at Croke Park. Pic: Stephen McCarthy/Sportsfile That's why many people weren't too impressed when Cavan GAA, who's not involved in the All-Ireland Final this year, shared that they will be doing a draw where the winner gets 10 tickets to the final. Many felt that the draw would end up not going to fans of either Cork or Tipp and 'true fans'. Also giving one fan 10 tickets does leave it prone for touts to enter the draw and win the tickets with the sole reason of selling them off. For the thousands of people across Tipp and Cork who are going to the ends of the earth just to get one, it must be infuriating to see another county giving away ten to one person as a prize. — Paul Dollery (@PaulDollery) July 16, 2025 What does 1 person do with 10 tickets like? What if a tout enters? Would 10 winners of 2 each not make more sense – and they have to be members of a GAA club — Smaller Fish (@SmallerFishGAA) July 17, 2025 However after this backlash Cavan were probably all but delighted to announce that the winner, Seán O'Brien is a Cork fan from Kilbrittain who's followed Cork all year and plans on bringing his family and friends to the final. Big congratulations to our deserving winner of the All Ireland Hurling Final Tickets, Seán O'Brien — a builder from @kilbrittaingaa in West Cork! Wishing him and his family an amazing day at Croke Park this Sunday as they cheer on the Rebels and thanks for entering our draw. — Official Cavan GAA (@CavanCoBoardGaa) July 17, 2025 While this story does have a happy ending, it does highlight the ludicrous nature that tickets for the All-Ireland are sold. These 10 tickets could've gone to anyone and Cork and Tipp fans would've either missed out or been taken advantage of by touts who resell tickets for extreme prices. In this day and age there must be a better way to go about this and hopefully there will be a new system soon. However there's no doubt there will be a sea of red, blue and yellow as both Cork and Tipp fans flock to Dublin to see their counties battle it out.

Kilkenny v Tipperary game put into dispute as GAA confirm 'official score'

Sunday's All Ireland Senior hurling semi-final has been put into dispute after a 'ghost' point appeared on the scoreboard, leading Kilkenny players to think they needed a goal to advance to the final. The Cats faced off against Tipperary at Croke Park on Sunday with a thrilling game going down to the final whistle. 14-man Tipperary were victorious on the day on what was initially said to be a tally of 4-21 to 0-30. However, the GAA has since confirmed the final point given to Tipperary did not exist. Sunday's All Ireland Senior hurling semi-final has been put into dispute after a 'ghost' point appeared on the scoreboard, leading Kilkenny players to think they needed a goal to advance to the final. Pic: INPHO/Leah Scholes The confusion came following a shot from midfielder Noel McGrath who went for a point in the 70th minute. Despite the point being waved wide by an umpire the scoreboard increased meaning Kilkenny thought they needed three points in order to take the game into extra time. A statement from the GAA has since confirmed the point was in fact a wide, writing: 'The GAA can confirm that the official score at the end of the Tipperary v Kilkenny GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final was 4-20 to 0-30. The GAA acknowledge there was confusion over the final score. The CCCC is awaiting the full referees report in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred.' Both Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng and Tipp's Liam Cahill said they thought Kilkenny were chasing a three-point deficit at the end of the game. Darragh McCarthy of Tipperary is comforted by Mikey Butler of Kilkenny, right, as he is shown a red card, a second yellow, by referee James Owens during the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-final. Pic: Ray McManus/Sportsfile The goal difference resulted in players Eoin Cody and John Donnelly going for goals on separate occasions, unsuccessfully. If both players instead went for points and succeeded, the game could have gone to extra-time. GAA fans have been having their say on X with Kilkenny fans furious while others aren't as aggrieved with the error. One said: 'Interesting how with all technology and officials this could happen. @KilkennyCLG had at least 2 attempts at goals that were tap over points that would have taken game to extra time. And with 14 for another 20 minutes would @TipperaryGAA survive?' Tipperary had 14 men with 15 minutes to go, but yet its a human error fault, if kilkenny can't game manage 15v14 nothing to do with one point. FFS. — Paul Davoren (@PaulDavoren1) July 6, 2025 Another said: 'Integrity of today's semi-final was brought into question by human error but a mistake all the same. Kilkenny were seriously hard done by. They chased a goal they didn't need. At the same time, Tipperary defended a goal they didn't have to.' A third responded: 'Tipperary had 14 men with 15 minutes to go, but yet it's a human error fault, if Kilkenny can't manage 15v14, nothing to do with one point.' On Saturday the first semi-final took place with Cork taking on Dublin, which prompted a sensational display from Pat Ryan's Rebel side. A full house, dominated by a travelling Cork army, watched Ryan's team shoot 7-26 to blitz the Dublin fairytale and move within 70 minutes of ending the county's 20-year wait for the Liam MacCarthy Cup.
