GB news 'breaking' report slams Keir Starmer who 'doesn't stand a chance'

GB News' Thursday morning installment of the show saw Conservative MP Esther McVey describe the current small boats crisis as a 'state' of emergency as she slammed Keir Starmer during her appearance on the breakfast programme. The MP, who represents Tatton, referenced the fact that a people smuggler was let off in France while she explained her case, the Express reports. Discussing the extent of the issue, she said: "You've got a whole host of people who were prepared to do various elements of the smuggling. In this case, it was bringing the boat across... You'd think they would have learned from county lines. "So you've got somebody right down the pecking order. Who's just getting a location, just getting some of the equipment, and he's got sort of a get out, so he is right down (the pecking order)." She added: "So whenever Keir Starmer was talking about smashing the gangs, let's get real, he didn't have a chance. He should have listened to how difficult it is to do drugs now. (The) difficulties to do county lines." McVey continued: " have got to take it into our own control and I've said parliament needs to be recalled. "This is a state of emergency - the numbers for immigration. We need to get everybody back. We've got to agree on what we're getting to do. "Dust down the Rwanda plan immediately, because that's basically what Trump has based his scheme on which has pretty much stopped all of the immigrants coming over the Mexican border, he's got to do that." Britain secured a new agreement with France earlier this month regarding returning migrants who arrive in small boats. A deal was struck for a one in, one out system that would see small boat migrants exchanged for legal asylum seekers. It came after an estimated 22,492 people arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel this year. This number was up 57% from the same time in 2024 and 71% higher than the year before that. The situation is resulting in public unrest. On the evening of Saturday July 27, protesters butted heads outside a hotel in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, which is housing asylum seekers. Separated by a dual carriageway, Stand Up To Racism protesters came face to face anti-migrant protesters, waving Union Jack flags which read 'Uniting Britain' and 'The Great Britain National Protest'. The protest came after the hotel's owners reportedly agreed to a deal with Serco to give shelter to asylum seekers. It's been a busy week for Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who was called out by McVey in her GB News speech. Starmer met with US President Donald Trump earlier this week at his Trump Turnberry golf course in South Ayrshire.

GB News Twelfth coverage chaos as ‘gutted' historian Dr Gavin Hughes pulls out following insect bite

GB News' live coverage of this year's Twelfth celebrations has been thrown into chaos after resident historical expert and Dame Arlene Foster's right hand man for the broadcast has been forced to pull out at the last minute. Dr Gavin Hughes has been a regular alongside the former First Minister to lend his expert knowledge and anecdotes and was due to contribute to Saturday's coverage of parades in NI. However the academic has suffered a 'misadventure' after being bitten by an insect during a 'field research incident' which triggered a bad allergic reaction that has forced him to reluctantly vacate his seat for the live broadcast set to come from a sun-kissed Coleraine. 'Would you believe it, I've had a misadventure,' Dr Hughes told the Belfast Telegraph. 'Unfortunately I won't be able to do the broadcast and I'm absolutely gutted. 'I was out looking at 1798 farmsteads and churches in County Down (as you do), and got really badly bitten by something. I've now had an extreme allergic reaction. 'One very swollen arm and call to local GP later, I've just started a course of 'sun-sensitive' antibiotics and been told by the doctor in no uncertain terms to rest, avoid using the arm too much and stay inside. 'The perils of archaeological field-research!' The Director of the Irish Conflict Archaeology Network at the Trinity Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Trinity College Dublin was due to accompany Dame Arlene to provide insights into the pageantry. Actor Charlie Lawson will also help cover the spectacle with reporter Dougie Beattie taking to the streets to mingle with spectators. Dr Hughes has been a key feature of the GB News coverage since the broadcaster stepped in to fill the void left when BBC NI pulled out of screening The Twelfth live in 2022. Earlier this week Dame Arlene said she was looking forward to another year of twelfth coverage, posting on X: 'This year @GBNEWS will be bringing you The Twelfth live from Coleraine with all the usual gang. See you then.' GB News has been contacted for comment. 'Hate incident' Co Tyrone bonfire topped with migrant effigy lit At this stage it's unclear whether it will be able to find a replacement for Dr Hughes, who has spent several weeks prepping for the big day. Chief Executive of the Ulster-Scots Agency, Ian Crozier, is also due to take part in the programme due to air between 10am-noon on Saturday. And this year the broadcaster is extending its focus on the day with a new historical documentary – co-produced by the TV network and Féinics Productions – exploring the untold story of how Ulster-Scots helped to shape early America. Architects of America: Foundations of Freedom, funded by Northern Ireland Screen's Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund, will air at midnight on Saturday 12 July. 'The documentary explores Colonial Ulster-Scots life and how ordinary men and women from Ulster arrived in a new world and built their future: from spinning wheels in the linen trade, to flax farming and land cultivation, to the rise of ironworks and maritime commerce - including the shadow world of covert trade,' the broadcaster previously announced. 'These industries and individuals laid the groundwork for revolution. 'Filmed across key locations in Ireland and the United States, this special news programme builds on previous coverage of the Glorious Revolution and The Great Migration, charting the rise of the Great Awakening in 18th-century America - a new era of ideals fuelled by the desire for economic, cultural, and religious freedom.'

GB News to air documentary on Ulster-Scots influence in America after Twelfth coverage

The documentary by GB News correspondent Dougie Beattie will follow live coverage of the Twelfth, which will be led by Dame Arlene Foster. Coleraine has been chosen as the location for the broadcaster's live coverage this year. It was chosen for its historic link to the first organised migration from Ulster to America in the early 1700s. Mrs Foster has been a regular part of GB News' Twelfth coverage. The channel stepped in three years ago after the BBC stopped its live coverage. Last year, former Coronation Street actor Charlie Lawson teamed up with Mrs Foster for coverage from Carrickfergus. He will be joining Chief Executive of the Ulster-Scots Agency, Ian Crozier, and former military historian Dr Gavin Hughes as part of the coverage this year. The new documentary, Architects of America: Foundations of Freedom, is funded by Northern Ireland Screen's Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund and will air at midnight on Saturday 12 July. The broadcaster said the documentary uncovers the deep economic, cultural and spiritual legacy carried by Ulster-Scots migrants who helped lay the foundations for American independence. They added: 'Filmed across key locations in Ireland and the United States, this special news programme builds on previous coverage of the Glorious Revolution and The Great Migration, charting the rise of the Great Awakening in 18th-century America - a new era of ideals fuelled by the desire for economic, cultural, and religious freedom. "The documentary explores Colonial Ulster-Scots life and how ordinary men and women from Ulster arrived in a new world and built their future: from spinning wheels in the linen trade, to flax farming and land cultivation, to the rise of ironworks and maritime commerce - including the shadow world of covert trade. These industries and individuals laid the groundwork for revolution. 'With expert interviews, rich location footage, and the thoughtful use of modern digital techniques, the programme brings history to life with clarity and depth. 'A specially arranged soundtrack, developed under the creative direction of Féinics Productions, blends traditional instrumentation with contemporary compositional tools to reflect the emotional arc of the story - from sorrow to hope and resilience to triumph - allowing each piece to resonate with the journey on screen.'

GB News announces expansion into the US

The news channel, launched in 2021, will open a new bureau in Washington DC as it launches its services across the Atlantic. The two-hour programme will begin in September from a studio 'close to the White House' and will 'bring British audiences closer than ever to the political news which unfolds each day in America'. The programme will feature 'headline-making exclusives, thought-provoking interviews with major figures, and in-depth analysis of the Trump presidency as well as stories from across the US', according to GB News. The move includes an extension of GB News' distribution across the US, with content to be made available free to American audiences. Turner said: 'With the gutsiest guests and the most iconic backdrops, I intend to keep viewers up late. Fronting the next stage of GB News's evolution is both a huge honour and an immense responsibility, and I cannot wait to represent the people's channel on a global stage. 'We will be disrupting the late-night TV space as the next day's papers land in the UK and America's prime-time analysis gears up. This affords us the chance to deliver a unique UK-USA hybrid of political, cultural and social issues from the start-line of global politics. 'We will fulfil the need for a British voice with an international perspective to help our viewers get a sense of who's really on their side. 'Tapping into Washington's heartbeat and delivering real-time perspective with editorial edge, the show will be alive, and a conversation that's punchy, intelligent and unmissable. What happens in DC reverberates in GB and we will capture every moment. 'Our highly engaged British audience understands how events in the US are directly impacting government policy and living standards here. 'We have a job to do: bridging the gap between British and American politics in the fearless style that typifies GB News. 'We will include the very best guests that Washington has to offer, alongside quintessentially British voices in an unparalleled assessment of events on both sides of the Atlantic. 'This isn't just a media experiment, this is a market intervention. And I look forward to leading it from the front.' Turner, 51, who began presenting her own show on GB News in 2022, previously hosted a talk show on LBC and has appeared on ITV's This Morning and Good Morning Britain. Michael Booker, GB News editorial director, said: 'This is a huge moment for GB News as we grow our presence and deliver more of the fearless journalism that defines us. 'The world's biggest political story is playing out in Washington, and its impact is being felt daily in towns and cities across Britain. 'More than ever before, what happens in the USA is having huge consequences, both socially and economically, for the people of Britain. 'We've seen time and again this year that a decision made on one day in Washington DC is felt the next day in Washington, Tyne and Wear. 'It's essential the people's channel is right there, reporting live, asking the tough questions, and telling it like it is. 'While others scale back on live free coverage, GB News is investing in our content. 'Our new Washington investment, our expanded programming and our brilliant on-the-ground team will ensure we're not just reporting on the story but that we're right at the heart of it.'
